Thanks for taking the time to share this. I just find it all so depressing. Those cars just sitting there, gradually rusting into the ground. Even though I'm in the UK, I've still been lucky enough to have owned a '69 GTX, 71 Challenger and 71 Chrysler 300 in the past. Mopars are just the best muscle cars!
I first met Ted Stephens in 1986 when I bought a pair of Challenger quarter panels with the frame rails and trunk floor extensions intact. They were nice, but expensive. I have them on my 71 Challenger R/T sunroof car now. Ted had a couple of small plots of land at that time that he had maybe 40 or 50 cars. Rex cut the quarters off the two donor cars they came from. Yeah, Rex was working for him that far back and I guess is longest term employee. I talked to Ted at the Mopar Nationals five years ago and asked him about being able to find parts cars. He basically said he couldn't find them any more and was converting over to selling reproduction sheet metal. I guess he is the biggest dealer of new metal now or so I think he said that.
I will say this for the people who hate to see these cars rotting. We all do. Keep in mind when some of us began restoring these cars in the 70's and 80's there were no after market parts to be had,so we went to the salvage yards or if we were lucky found NOS parts. In order to keep the good cars we parted out the one's that weren't as desirable. In the early 80's when scrap metal was high a lot got crunched. There was a big salvage yard here in Tulsa that crunched 15 acres of classic MOPARS. Today it's a different story. There are cars I parted out that could be restored today. I have dealt with Stephens and they are great people to do business with.
Reminds me of the story my brother's father in law told me when he was working in a junkyard around my age, a perfectly good 1969 Mustang Mach 1 got sent to the crusher, and he wanted to keep it so bad, but he couldn't because of the state law in Washington State at the time. Damn shame...
That is where I got the driver side door for my Satellite. maybe a week before you taped this. The Green car at about 5:11 has the same Green paint. I'm going to have to call them soon. for some parts for the trunk. Shipping cost more than the part
first time seeing this video and i think the guy said that he was from Alabama but yet when he showed us pictures in the video it looked like i kinda saw a little bit of snow in the pictures or was the pictures taking from a different location of the exact same car just curious thanks for sharing a great video i really enjoyed it peace my friend 😁👍
Does he sell any rear ends out of the junkyard I need a 9 and 1/4 positraction rear end with for 411or something close to it for my 78 Dodge Magnum big block 6.6 l
how and why is that so? makes no sense it's a common trend even in the usa to get a car from the local junkyard, fix it up and get it on the road again. There's no such a thing saying you can't get one of those fully restored and put back on the road again. edit: found the rule, you can restore the cars to their prior condition but only if you own a rebuilder license, and it has to be done within the state only (aka in alabama). Also you need to keep every bills from the parts you get for your car.
Most states require salvage yards to turn the titles into the state which the business resides in. In these states, if you can buy the body, it has to be inspected by the state and will be re-issued a state VIN (after they remove the manufacturer VIN). So Stephen's is not a "Bad guy" automatically.
So Alabama is one of the states that does not allow folks to buy shells, thus, Stephens is not a "Bad Guy" at all. I know in my state, you can buy a body, but you have to go through a state police inspection
3:46minutes , l like the True Green Powerplant super low greenhouse emissions Co2 poluting gases, engine in the Maybe, Satelite/roadrunner, the Tree growing clean & strong in that poor things engine now M/T ( empty ) Bay.
Would it be possible to have another VIN code pressed from the state for one of the shells if they did sell it to you? It sucks so bad to see that complete 68 Charger just sitting there and rotting away. This is a gold mine on top of a volcano...
I was one of the lucky ones, I use to work at a gas station during the first gas shortage and the own son had a beautiful black hemi 428 road runner 79 I think the smaller sexy one. Well he took my for a test ride, the car was so strong, he has a auto, as he straighten out he gas it, the revs build up super fast and the other gears was just a rush. This is a cammer engine height flow. And I road in my older friend car a mustang 429 boss that a torque engine lift the cars in every shift fast but not cammy. Road in a few more muscle cars. Has a few small block.
They do better quarter times but make it up 60-120 by the huge torque. You lose on the street burning rubber. Long stroke engine ,I love the rush of a short stroke engine the 427 of all brand I s the engine to have . th-cam.com/video/02AQvzu06Os/w-d-xo.html&lc=z23tsdvyvpzhsdb2lacdp432vgt3hbrgmfwmfqs0qadw03c010c.1546361591972986
hello!!! great video!! one question , if i go there and i wanna buy some parts for repair my car they are open to the idea to sell or not! ( sorry for my bad english ) im from Venezuela and i have 1 of maybe 4 o 5 dodge challenger of my country and im fighting for repair the car xD!! Thank you very much and greetings from Venezuela xD
that is too bad they wont sell any shells, I really miss the 3 68 Chargers I had . It makes me ill just thinking about them. but that is what happens when you get a crappy lawyer that takes $ under the table from my x...had the chargers for 21 yrs before I even met him...I was awarded my last 68 Charger B5 Blue 440 3on the tree Car.....but oops it came up missing the day I was allowed to pick it up....He was from New Hampshire and I believe that is where it might be. Very rare car...Got it from the original owner. Makes me sad when seeing so many of them are sitting there wasting away when I cant one of my that I owned...oh well great video...I have subscribed to your site. it is a bitter sweet watch.
I know the feeling. The very first car he shows is exactly like my Super Bee that was MINT. The collector I sold it to was impressed at the great condition it was in. He did a complete resto and put it in his collection. At least it got a good home. I believe he still has it in New Britain Ct. Divorce caused me to sell it to the collector. I couldn't bare to see it deteriorate. She, the X, actually tried to "steal" it from me in court, so she could sell it, along with the property my parents gave me in Vt, just because I loved it. At least we have our dreams and memories that NO ONE can steal .... take care
its sad that they refuse to sell the shells... but then again, maybe its to keep them for later and they have an insider who'll use em once the it becomes profitable to build shells from the ground up using replacement sheetmetal... or maybe they sell off the quarters and taillight panels and roofs untill they kill the whole car... in which case, shame shame... but who am I to say.
The titles were turned into the state as junked cars. If any were found back on the road they would have to close the yard and crush everything. But at least they will sell you nearly every piece off the car.
Not really, a vehicle given a "Junk Title" just has to be taken to a State Approved repair shop to make sure the lights, etc. work and the vehicle is deemed roadworthy again and usually issued a "Salvage Title" along with New Registration and Stickers. There is no foul for rescuing a old/antique vehicle with a "Salvage Title"...as most Insurance Companies give it the same Insurance as a regular car....and any potential future buyer won't be alarmed as long as the story and paper match. Many Classic cars which are now traded as valuable cars, many were rescued from Salvage Yards, etc. , or from private entities where the paper-trail of ownership/Registration were lost,etc.....and if one has the creativity,etc.....getting a classic vehicle on the road again with or without a Salvage Title is no problem. I've bought many cars without Title or the owner has died,moved,disappeared.....not that difficult to get a New Title and Registration. With Mopar nowadays being treated as a Potential annuity/Big time payout, many salvage yards just want to hold-on to them for high-dollars parts or a future payout. All those vehicles in that yard could be easily put back on the oad Legally without too much problem.....unless, say a vehicle was involved in a homicide,MVA (Bio-matter),etc. and the State determined the vehicle was never to be roadworthy again and must be scrapped.
It WAS profitable ten years ago. The old boomers who love these cars will soon be releasing these back into the market when they're too old or dead to enjoy them, and the prices will go down because their kids and grandkids aren't interested in them.
S. SESTRIC: Actually, those in Europe and the East Block, and Millennials ( the ones not wasting away on video games/computer) are the new group of buyers flocking to 1960s/1970s Americana....but I will have to agree with you on prices of Mopar dropping in the future.....as is the case with anything Shelby now-days. Those suckers that paid a Premium a few years back....are so far in the hole now.
Whats with the portrait filming??? would you GoTo a movie that was filmed this way??? What an opportunity to film these vehicles, could look at "em all day... owned a few back in the day... keep up the Good_Work! But please, use PanaVision.
At 1:47minutes l can't believe you don't Zoom in on the frigging possibly still there the mother of all build info. the bleddy readable fender tag ? Your obviously NOT a true car dude missing and or going right by that tag.
Yes l understand that ,but us Socalled mopar Motor Parts Nuts like to see weather worn Stamped Metal fender tags when exposed like most of this Thrown away peices of Automotive Art are.
Come on More time, the one's with the hoods missing the Plate is right there on the left front inner fender, ( drivers side ) a person won't need more time to Simply focus in on that Totally Exposed plate ? thanks anyway hopefully next time.
Man ' I have to agree w/ Dave ! W/ all those cars who knows how many BAD ASS MUSCLE CARS A guy could make ?? Hell if I had a garage & all the tools & my back not all messed up !! I would be goin down there at least once every 3 months 'or so IF I ONLY HAD THE $ !! I would be building 1 BAD ASS '68 '69' Charger ' or '70 Super Bee !!!!!
I used to spend days in junk yards in the 80's, loved every minute of it, thank you, just became a new Sub 👍👍👍💯💯💯
Thank you! I grew up in the wrong era!

Indeed! Those 76 Chargers are cool, good luck!

No idea, give Stephens a call.
That's some cool cars you had there! Very nice! Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the info. My 67 coronet 2dr hardtop could use some parts for the restoration
Excellent
I first met Ted Stephens in 1986 when I bought a pair of Challenger quarter panels with the frame rails and trunk floor extensions intact. They were nice, but expensive. He basically said he couldn't find them any more and was converting over to selling reproduction sheet metal. I guess he is the biggest dealer of new metal now or so I think he said that.
He is right up there with new metal as well.
You Did It??? You've found HEAVEN ON EARTH!!!
Pretty close, the snakes might be an issue.
25 years ago maybe
I love the smell of old cars and places like these.
It is unique.
love your channel mate!
Thank you!
I would take a tour of that yard!
I did restoration for 40 years, looks like a lot of work to me,only car in got excited about was the station wagon, love station wagons
As do I!
I will say this for the people who hate to see these cars rotting. We all do. Keep in mind when some of us began restoring these cars in the 70's and 80's there were no after market parts to be had,so we went to the salvage yards or if we were lucky found NOS parts. Super cool still around and not a park bench. Thanks
Yup!
We’re there any 2006 to 2008 dodge chargers?
No
Love yer videos dude, great work
Thank you!
Reminds me of the story my brother's father in law told me when he was working in a junkyard around my age, a perfectly good 1969 Mustang Mach 1 got sent to the crusher, and he wanted to keep it so bad, but he couldn't because of the state law in Washington State at the time. Damn shame...
Damn shame indeed
That is where I got the driver side door for my Satellite. maybe a week before you taped this. The Green car at about 5:11 has the same Green paint. I'm going to have to call them soon. for some parts for the trunk. Shipping cost more than the part
lol, that's funny timing. Very cool
Where in Missouri is that Mopar junkyard?
This isn't in Missouri, this is in Alabama
We’re are you located Please
love the program sad to see the cars in this condition but maybe someday I'll have a new life
Thank you!
out of all the cars there at the yard is there any 1960 dodge dart's, polara's or matador's?
Yes
Auto Archaeology thank you so much i have been looking for fairly rust free front fenders for my dart phoenix
Definitely give them a call. They have a bit of it all!
first time seeing this video and i think the guy said that he was from Alabama but yet when he showed us pictures in the video it looked like i kinda saw a little bit of snow in the pictures or was the pictures taking from a different location of the exact same car just curious thanks for sharing a great video i really enjoyed it peace my friend 😁👍
It was Northern Alabama in Feb. They had a overnight snowfall.
The place is in north Alabama close to the Tennessee border. As far as all of the people in the videos there all Yankee's.
Does he sell any rear ends out of the junkyard I need a 9 and 1/4 positraction rear end with for 411or something close to it for my 78 Dodge Magnum big block 6.6 l
They probably do
How come they a complete car / shell?
Cause they only sell parts.
Love Mopar and junkyards!
Do they 64 Plymouth Fury or Belvedere?
Yes, they have some of them as well!
To kumravel its called being passionate. Its an American thing
I have a question in this junkyard ( Stephens ) sold some car ?
Only if they have the title and it is outside the yard
What’s the reason for not wanting to sell?
Legally can't sell them. Once they are in the yard, they can't come out again. But they will sell any parts.
Auto Archaeology dam that sucks. Thanks for replying new subscriber
Thank you!
But could i buy something from there if i export it to eu and then restore it ?
No
Were the cars for sale? Thinking of making a trip. I need answers first lol
No
was there not any challenger.
They are in another video
Any reason as to why they won't sell a shell?
The titles were turned into the state as junked cars. If any were found back on the road they would have to close the yard and crush everything.
Auto Archaeology That's unfortunate. Is there no way to get them on the road legally?
Nope, if one ever showed up on the road. The yard would be closed and crushed out.
how and why is that so? makes no sense
it's a common trend even in the usa to get a car from the local junkyard, fix it up and get it on the road again.
That is only if it still has a title. If the title had been turned in to the state, there is nothing they can do.
The what the heck.. Wasn't that an old Desoto
Could be.
Most states require salvage yards to turn the titles into the state which the business resides in. In these states, if you can buy the body, it has to be inspected by the state and will be re-issued a state VIN (after they remove the manufacturer VIN). So Stephen's is not a "Bad guy" automatically.
Unfortunately not in Alabama, they are not allowed to release any vehicles from the yard once they have been classified as being in a salvage yard.
So Alabama is one of the states that does not allow folks to buy shells, thus, Stephens is not a "Bad Guy" at all. I know in my state, you can buy a body, but you have to go through a state police inspection
Yup, he's just keeping his business safe.
3:46minutes , l like the True Green Powerplant super low greenhouse emissions Co2 poluting gases, engine in the Maybe, Satelite/roadrunner, the Tree growing clean & strong in that poor things engine now M/T ( empty ) Bay.
why no c body stock brother
No time! I didn't get all the A/B/E bodies even.
love it, do they sell shell's?
No, just parts off the body.
Auto Archaeology I stay near Montgomery, Alabama and I've been looking to do a muscle car. Do you know where I can find a body?
I do not, but there are some pretty busy facebook groups for muscle cars in that area. I'd contact them.
Looking for a 1970 or 69 440 six pack engine
thank hevens theese places exzist.thanks
Cool and Liked
whats the name of this yard?
Stephens Performance
sont elles a vendre ?
poor cars😭
Did the owner ever say how many cars that he has total in his junkyard?
I'm sure he has a count somewhere.
Holy crap, will they sell ANY of them , or just parts?
Just parts, no cars.
Why won't they sell?
Legally can't.
Screw the law, i want a mopar! Lol
There are other places to get Mopars.
Any for sale
They sell parts
I would love to know the story behind how he got all those great cars
It was a Mopar only yard. It is well known, so they saved Mopars from around the country and people brought them Mopars.
Man do I want to go and save them cars
I'm with ya there!
Hey sport,....... ever think about snakes while you stroll through here in Summer? I know I do in Texas.
Never really had to deal with snakes where I travel.
Well you should. I never knew Alabama had no snakes other than Stabler.
That's more in the east and SW.
Where is this place
Stephens Performance
Would it be possible to have another VIN code pressed from the state for one of the shells if they did sell it to you? It sucks so bad to see that complete 68 Charger just sitting there and rotting away. This is a gold mine on top of a volcano...
No, because it was turned into the state as junkyard/crushed. I couldn't be re-vined
Seen bigger in New York my jaw dropped to the floor when I seen it
It is crazy
Ever find something in New England. Specifically Connecticut.
Nope, never hunted out that way.
where's the closest you've been to Connecticut
Central PA
it's not Connecticut, but Harry Halls in Johnston, RI it's not as huge as this place, but there's a bunch of gems there, and a couple were mine.
Thanks Michael! And Auto Archaeology
i a,m a mager mopar funnatic i had a 1973 plymouth sattilight seabreing plues and a plymouth satilight custum
Dudes got a gold mine and is just parting it all out!! Kinda sad they are being cannabalized
So, how would a Man go about making contact with whoever it is that makes the deals for a complete Project?
No complete projects. Just parts. This is Stephens Performance in Alabama.
3:29 I need that roadrunner. I have a 71 satellite.
Sadly the Road Runner isn't for sale, but they will sell parts off of it.
Nice cars. Too bad they can't be sold. A lot of potential there.
Lots of good parts though.
Buenisimo hermosos autos !!!! El lugar hermoso con árboles!!!
Most look parted out to the bone already. Mostly a few body parts here and there left on them.
There is some complete cars in there. But most have some parts removed.
This makes me want to 😭😭😭😭 just seeing them just rusting & rotting away.
I was one of the lucky ones, I use to work at a gas station during the first gas shortage and the own son had a beautiful black hemi 428 road runner 79 I think the smaller sexy one. probably a lot of them are past saving
Many are, yes
i hate to see cars like this just rotting :(
As do I
Yea I know , it sucks but at least there not near the Ocean . Salty air is a real killer...
Any hemis
No, they wouldn't be in the yard.
some body need to kept the good ones, rest parts them out on line, and sell the rest for JUNK METAL
They are all for parts now.
@@AutoArchaeology that sucks!!! Good money these days for good Mopar project cars!!!
That Cordoba...
Thanks for calling Stephen's Perf. What parts do you need?
Yes😍
There doesn't appear to be an engine in the county.
Most were removed and are stored in a building nearby.
its sad that they refuse to sell the shells... but then again, maybe its to keep them for later and they have an insider who'll use em once the it becomes profitable to build shells from the ground up using replacement sheetmetal... or maybe they sell off the quarters and taillight panels and roofs untill they kill the whole car... in which case, shame shame... but who am I to say.

Well....make a law stating old Mopars can be re-titled with a 1 page application. They make laws everyday.
The fender was laying beside the car.
One of them.
Very cool to see but they should sell whole cars get them beautiful cars back on streets
I have an Olds but Mopars I like them too.
As all real us cars that is
That's what is important.
I need the number for the place
Stephens Performance, it's in the title.
This is sad
I think I saw a nice 68 Newport in the intro! Glad I own one in good condition!
That is awesome.
I restore old mopar parts. I would be interested in buying parts
Stephens Performance in Alabama
i love old 4dr. cars and 4dr. stationwagons.
As do I
This video is very hard to watch. But at least they are being put to use.
Exactly
At 1:47minutes l can't believe you don't Zoom in on the frigging possibly still there the mother of all build info. the bleddy readable fender tag ? Your obviously NOT a true car dude missing and or going right by that tag.

Yeah, it sucks, but laws are laws. They make us all crazy at times. I'd save 'em ALL if I could, and I'd have a LOT of help !!
Heartbreaking : (
It is sad.
Man, what I wouldn't give to have just one of those chargers, roadrunners, or super bees. It's a shame to see them rot away.
I'm there with you!
Oh I know, I'm right there with ya!
What a shame all those dead Mopars I want a 70 Coronet 440 like my dad had brand new
The family that just lets them rot makes me sick
But they will sell any part.
Auto Archaeology at least that's something lol
