- In this episode of Expert Voices, discover the expressive allure of Emily Carr’s 1912 masterpiece Skedans. Painted after a pivotal journey up the coast of British Columbia, this brilliant work embodies the empathetic spirit and distinctive technique of a 20th century Canadian icon. Bridging her artistic training among the Fauves with the particular sense of place offered by the Pacific Northwest, Carr created deeply moving sketches and later paintings while embedded within the communities to which she traveled. Her careful rendering of the iconography of the First Nations served as a reverential embrace of their marginalized art, borne from her concern that these indigenous cultures were on the brink of extinction. But...This young woman narayor needs to work with a breathing and voice coach. Her voice is so restricted and extremely unpleasant. Distracting!
