Lucas Gilberstson was still in high school when he was voicing Zero. The fact that he's still considered the best voice even after an iconic VA like Johnny took over is a testament to how talented he is.
@@u.a.perfectace7786 Yeah! He mentioned in an interview that he would stop by the recording studio after class to record his lines. Crazy to think about.
he did, at the end of Megaman Zero 4: "I never cared about justice, and I don't recall ever calling myself a hero... I have always only fought for the people I believe in. I won't hesitate... If an enemy appears in front of me, I will destroy it!"
Most video game characters from before video game voice acting was ironed out somewhere in the mid 2000s I think it was went through a ton of VAs, especially if there were early cartoon spinoffs. Course Satoshi Hashimoto had voiced Terry Bogard from Fatal Fury Special in 1993 all the way up to the The King of Fighters III slot machine in 2012 before getting replaced by Takashi Kondō in The King of Fighters XIV in 2016 for reasons unknown to me. Not that there weren't other VAs, there was an anime and SNK Heroines with Cutie Terry.
@@JetFireHawk In my opinion, Maverick Hunter X had by far the best voice acting in the series, and some of the best voice acting I've heard in a video game. Both Mark Gatha and Lucas Gilbertson absolutely outdid themselves for that game!
Yuto Kazama sounds cool, but for whatever reason it sounds like MMZ Zero has a completely different voice whenever he takes damage, almost like it's a placeholder sound they left in.
Lucas G IS Zero. Always and forever. First time i heard him in Command Mission and i was like YO THIS IS MY BOI. Was pleasantly surprised he took a few more swings as Zero in X8 and MHX+ X4 fan dub. Yuto is mvp as Zero in MMZ. The drama tracks man, especially the one vs Weil in Z4. JYB is good too but i swear hes gonna say Bankai and lob a Getsuga Tensho at some Mavericks.
My initial thought was that the two voice actors sounded somewhat similar, but there were certain qualities to Gilbertson's voice that made him a much better fit for Zero. Namely, he sounds a bit more aggressive, if that makes any sense... I generally love JYB as a voice actor, but he just doesn't _quite_ cut it this time. It's an okay performance, but not the best.
You know, upon listening to Ryotaru Okiayu's lines more, I think JYB has the most similar voice to him - their grunts and shouts are very close. But I still prefer Lucas
@samquik Given that Okiayu is pretty much _the_ Japanese voice actor for Zero, it would make sense that they'd try to cast someone who sounds similar to him. Dubbing can be hard, so I'm not gonna come down on them too hard for their choices... but I definitely prefer the old English VA. lol
It's hard to choose, but Ryotaro is the best of all, always. MMZ is really good too. Of english, Gilbertson is perfect and extremlly nostalgic. Johnny Bosch, any work he dones is perfect (Nero dmc4). Usually japanese and brazilian works are much better than english VA, but in case of zero, english was epic too. Except X4 and mainly X7, pure memes hahahahahaha🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

But he isn't best VA. Japanese VA are best
For you, my little baby boo bop.
I think Yuto Kazama is the best.
Lucas Gilbertson has a great Zero voice, and I always liked West's take on Model Z. Made him feel like a mentor to the protagonist.
I really like Johnny Yong Bosch's voice, but for me it's always gonna be about Lucas Gilbertson. Absolutely love his portrayal of the character.
agreed!!!
Honestly, they're both amazing. I personally give the edge to Johnny Yong Bosch, but I love both of them.
Maybe one day, Zero will finally discover what is he fighting for
he did, at the end of Megaman Zero 4:

Zero Virus sounds more like MMZ Zero.
Also I had no idea JYB did a throwback to the "WHAT AM I FIGHTING FOR?!" line pft.
Lucas Gilbertson zero voice is one of the best voice performances ive ever heard

Bro the Japanese VA killed it as Zero in X4. The “what am I fighting forrr” scene gave me chills, unlike the English version 😅

I always thought Wayne Doster sounded drunk.
maybe he was, then he would have accepted pennies to voice act for that... thing called megaman X4

Johnny Yong Bosch has a good performance, but it's too similar to his other roles like Ichigo, Yu, and Nero. So I much prefer Lucas Gilbertson

Where is Ryōtarō Okiayu? Zero japanese voice' in Mega Man X6? He is the best dude..
right at the beginning of the video, he's been Zero since X4
Wait, when or where did Johnny Yong Bosch's Zero scream "What am I fighting foooooooor"?

Zero Majima
The Mad Warrior of Willy
Omega: oh hello there *"SHIERU CHAAAANN!"*
that last line got me laughing HARD. no offense to johnny.
It almost sounds like as much of a meme as the original dub line from X4. XD
Yuto Kazama is my favorite.
Lucas Gilbertson will always be my Zero, though I think JYB does a good job too. I also kind of like the X4 guy since X4 is my favorite
Johnny yong Bosch is literally Zero
