I was born in a small town in '41 and was so enraptured by The Flying Farmers. One of my neighbors had a J3 and kept it on his Dad's farm. No runways. Just smooth fields. It was so exciting to see him take off and land. The FFs were a regular feature at the Farm Show where they did targeted landing and dropped flour sacks in targeted bombing runs over the crowd. It was so memorable and fun. This tickled my memory so. Thanks! Beautiful!
Wow. Really? Great video. I bought my son an RC Piper Cub J-3 for Christmas, had no idea what I had bought. This video was the best. Thank you. So fun to watch, and I love the camraderie between you too. We plan to try the RC tomorrow, but he's only 15 and who knows? I hope to spark something inside. Again, thank you.
I owned a J3 in 1970s N98342. The plane was on PK-18 floats when I bought it and skis were included in the sale. I never flew the Cub on floats or skis, sold them and stayed on the grass as much as I could. Great memories. The Cub now resides in MA with a Lycoming 115hp motor.
I want one of these more than ever. As a retired corporate pilot I was fortunate to have flown some of the best equipped aircraft in the world, so now this is what I want. Real flying !!! If I could get away without a radio and ads-b I would, just fly.
My Dad worked for Piper 40 years ago. I was born I Lock Haven PA. Now I’m in Travelers Rest SC. But still have a lot of my dads Piper stuff and Cub stuff
My father Captain Harvey Beebe Jr and I flew this Piper J3 Cub from this airport Alexandria Field in Pittstown NJ many times. This airport is only 6 miles from where I lived in Milford NJ for 46 years of my life.
Just looked at this, and it warms my heart. To see you guys doing the same kind of stuff, I used to do in my J3 just north of Guelph lake Ontario Canada some 30 years ago. No GoPro's so I couldn't share the way you did, but nothing Flys Like a Cub. Loved it!
After flying all morning to get there, through Bravo airspace, flight planning, cameras...all that jazz...it was very nice to 'go back' to such a simple flying machine. Amazing how many pilots have flown one with such relate-able experiences over ~85 years!
Love to see it! This was my grandpa's airplane I believe around the 70s when he owned a small private airport in Western New York, my father originally found and showed me this video, he loved it too. Would love to talk more on the subject if you had an emil I could reach out to, thanks!
My father Captain Harvey Beebe Jr and I flew this very airplane featured in this video at the airport featured in the video, Alexandria Field. What a machine!!!!
For me being someone who's from Lock Haven PA (where the original planes were built) it makes me take great pride in my town's history and influence in the world
I fly a J3c, have 20 hours as a student (for log book certificaion) and now have 4.6 hours solo. Why so much student time? The first log book cert I was going for got sidelined due to an off-work injury that put me in two different hospitals for 67 days, first hospital time in my 75 years of life. My CFI before the fall was about to sign the book and cut me lose. I have about 35o hours in tricycle aircraft and about 65 flights in gliders. Back on line, my two months and recuperation gave my 22 year old CFI the opportunity to fly as first officer for an airline. CFI gone and other tail-wheel CFIs hard to come by. It took me two years to get back to my training in 2022 but I did. I got trained a second time (along with bfr) in January-Febuary (2022) and that added about 9 hours to my time. I got my cert in February 2022 then the cub was down for about a year until airworthy again. I didn't hurt the cub or lose control at all in my second go at training. In my new solo time I have had about 6 flights acumulating my 4.6 hours. Finally I got , and upload, a flight video. I'm going back through the videos of J3C flight to determine how to reduce noise in the cub and allow reasonable intercom audio. Yesterday my audio setup worked pretty well but not great. I had the door side opened and the left side windown down. I'm also having trouble keeping video vibration reduced. I really want audio in my videos. I have two TH-cam channels, one for radio tower work and the other for "fun" things. My first somewhat watchable video is on both of the channels at the moment. If interested my first solo cub video can be seen at: th-cam.com/video/N1aOn-34pBg/w-d-xo.html
I’m from the Lock Haven area where Piper was originally founded and where the planes were built. It’s a small little city without much going on. But it’s nice to see lots of people enjoy pieces of history my home city contributed to. There’s an annual fly-in at the Piper Memorial Airport every year where people from all over the country bring their cubs and other aircraft to camp out, bbq, compete in different games and events and just have a good time.
I'm working for the Piper Aviation Museum! So many in our own hometown don't realize the history we have here. The little town that built 75000 airplanes!!
I went for my first glider ride recently. This video reminds me of it as far as take off distance and speed, landing distance and speed and cruising speed. The visibility in the glider was fantastic - you are right down on the ground during takeoff and landing- I was in the nose seat with the pilot behind me - There is nothing to obstruct the view and when you do a bank you are looking right down at the ground as if you were not even in an airplane - not for the faint of heart. :-) The pilot let me take controls for a while and I did okay. We glided at 50 knots - at one point we went from 3400 feet to 4000 feet in about a minute (600 feet per minute climb rate - amazing how powerful the updraft thermals are... that's a faster climb rate than the J-3 I think) We did not have to worry about the engine going out but we did have to make sure the first landing was a good one !
Nice video. Made my day. Brought back memories. Ink was still wet on my PPL and I got my t/wheel endorsement in a J-3 Cub that had been on it`s back a few times. Got checked out in a freshly restored J-3,at a different airport, and saw how I was so much better flying it. I was prouder of getting checked out in that beautifully restored Cub than I was getting my ticket. Good times. Have about 1400hrs. in taildraggers and 200hrs. nose draggers.
Great video! Excellent footage that was clearly high def. The cub is an excellent airplane, and you really showed it well. My only advice would be to put a mic on you and your co-host of sorts when you're not in the plane as sometimes it was hard to hear one or both of you.
+lazairman Thx for the feedback! I appreciate it. Even with some help we experienced a lot of audio issues, but we'll keep learning and hopefully get better. More videos to come.
The owner Pilot clearly understands and skillfully excites clearing turns with his head and eyes on a sweeping pivot, aided by being in the front seat. The rear occupant is just that, but clearly does not understand the concept of LOOKING ATTENTIVELY IN ALL DIRECTIONS. Nice video well done all.
That, my son, is the sound of the magneto's "impulse coupler" rapidly moving to provide a spark to the engine. (There are usually two magnetos.) I'm a retired Aircraft Maintenance Engineer, by the way...
I took my first hour of instruction in a J3 in 1963 at age 14. I asked my instructor how you did a spin. After climbing for what seemed like all afternoon, he told me to count the turns as he demonstrated a power off stall followed by 17 turns in a spin. I have never been afraid of a spin after that intro. It spins beautifully and is easy to enter and recover from. I loved that airplane and would love to fly another.
i was wondering about TP stuck to left eyebrow at start of taxiing, must have been from previous demo flight. Will you be required to have a remote ID/locating device same as RC model airplanes to be required by FAA?
Tom Winchester sorry buddy but that N number is Not a Cub. That N number is a Aeronca. If you find the correct N number you can search for it on this page. registry.faa.gov/aircraftinquiry/NNum_Results.aspx?NNumbertxt=N22338%20
I am from India I live near flying club there in my childhood these plane were flying now they are in not working. I wish to fly in it but no chance to get opportunity.
Loud camera man, couldn't hear pilot during walkaround. Camera man should stand close to pilot to get more balanced sound levels. Otherwise excellent video for beginning Cub lovers.
didn't go over 4000. You can legally go up to 17,999 feet in this airplane...but you'll need oxygen over 12,500. And it's pretty chilly and boring up there anyway! Plus it would take foreverrrr to get there with 65 horses!
You should never cut toilet paper with your prop because it can get stuck inside the cowling and get on the mufflers and start a fire. ALWAYS cut it with your wings.
MIGHTY FINE!! Now, suppose that you are in your mid to late teens and want to get away from your father dor a summer. Simply restore a Cub in your barn during the winter with your brother and sister, and thwn fly across the United States andback from the east coast. Years later, weite a best seller. "A Flight of Passage" explains a lot about flying adventure. Now it would be next to impossible to do without Avidyne/Garmin, ADSB-IN-OUT-Updide down and Backwards. Rinker Buck got to fly 'their' Cub again after reuniting with it years after their flight.

I'm from Lock Haven as well. I'm an employee of the Piper Aviation Museum.
I can’t believe that aircraft is from the 40’s, iconic shape
My father Captain Harvey Beebe Jr and I flew this Piper J3 Cub from this airport Alexandria Field in Pittstown NJ many times. This airport is only 6 miles from where I lived in Milford NJ for 46 years of my life.

Good video, I just purchased a 1946 J3-C85 in Feb. Love it , pure fun to fly, a challenge to land. It will definitely make you use the rudders.

Piper cubs are the cutest airplanes there is. The trusty fuel gauge only adds to it
Just found this video, what a great way to make flying look as fun as it is!
Nice job, guys! Enjoyed the video. Great to see y'all having fun in a Cub--the best!
The J3 Cub was one of the first planes I flew back in 1980. It was old then. LOL Great plane!
yup i worked them in the civiairpatrol 19 60 61

@@Superbimo the also made a glider/sailplane version of the J3 cub used to train glider pilots.
Damn that's some nice maneuvering with the itty bitty spar. =P
Nice job, guys! Enjoyed the video. Very nice !
My mom learned to fly in this plane....in 1941 at an little airport in Hatboro, Pa...north of Philadelphia.
Awesome video guys. Never forget my first fight in a Cub!!!!

In 1953,at 18,Igot my "brebet" at Aero Club de Flores,Uruguay.Nothing more beautiful than the J3.
Excellent film footage commentary and sound.
Brought back some of my early flying days, all you need is a Piper Cub and a roll of TP
That was fun!! Thanks for making the video. Gotta love a J-3.
That was an awesome video. One of the most enjoyable ones that I watched. Keep it up!
Love it, thanks for posting!
Awesome! Thanks for posting
Thank you for watching!
The guy with the yellow hat is a real pilot for sure !
WOW! I love the Skeeter Piper J3 on floats.
sweet. man i would love to have my own private hanger!
you might air up your tire pressure. you know what can happen on a hard brake! I like about 14lbs. Love my J3. Gary
Sweet!
Cám ơn video chia sẻ của bạn rất hữu ích cho kiến thức, chúc bạn sức khỏe và hạnh phúc.
This may be the slowest plane but it was such a beauty when it was introduced at that time It still is . i like this aircraft.
In 2020 that TP would be worth $50. Its like throwing money out the window. Great video.
Getting some solid views on this
1:22 What’s up Tucker!!! 😆
Is it equipped with a Conti C90? I see it climbs pretty good with two people on board!
Espectacular, lindo, estoy construyendo mi Piper J3 de 1/4 Scala. RC. Con mucho cariño . antes hice otros aviones ojalá todo salga como sé quiere.
It's weird hearing the airplane I train with in radio calls in a youtube video that could've been anywhere but 20 minutes from my home airport.
I meet so many people this way!
Bucket list.
My uncle owned one..back in 1940.
Can you only get in on the right side?
Zahn's Airport had about 16 Cubs for rent and training YEARS AGO..
Very nice video. What is that sharp "snap" when hand propping ( valve closing) ?
That, my son, is the sound of the magneto's "impulse coupler" rapidly moving to provide a spark to the engine. (There are usually two magnetos.) I'm a retired Aircraft Maintenance Engineer, by the way...
I thought I recognized the terrain...I heard Sky Meadows. I may have seen this plane a few times. I live in Hamilton.
have you ever tried a spin?

Jeez! Did it just roll 50m before rotating? I want one so bad!
Awesome video John. Great to see you and your J3. Will you be at Reading PA 2017?
I could!
Eaglelegal
Help...trying to find my dads j3.....n22338....LaVerne Winchester michigan....
Tom Winchester sorry buddy but that N number is Not a Cub. That N number is a Aeronca. If you find the correct N number you can search for it on this page.
registry.faa.gov/aircraftinquiry/NNum_Results.aspx?NNumbertxt=N22338%20
Good show.
Very nice,
I m working hard to get fly in such plane but not available in my city.
The best things in life are yellow. J3 Cub and 1979 Honda CT70
audio is difficult to hear.
wind is in how many knots :(
It's even harder to taste.
300th Subscriber!
Why don't they still make them? It seems like there would still be demand for them, no?
I am from India I live near flying club there in my childhood these plane were flying now they are in not working. I wish to fly in it but no chance to get opportunity.
Loud camera man, couldn't hear pilot during walkaround. Camera man should stand close to pilot to get more balanced sound levels. Otherwise excellent video for beginning Cub lovers.
What altitude were you guys at? What's the max for this plane?
didn't go over 4000. You can legally go up to 17,999 feet in this airplane...but you'll need oxygen over 12,500. And it's pretty chilly and boring up there anyway! Plus it would take foreverrrr to get there with 65 horses!
5500 meters? hell. never thought this could get over 3000. chilly indeed, does this old bird even come with a heater?
10,000' with a 65 HP engine
what is the seating like for tall folks (6' 4")
Very tight fit.
I am 6’4” and my instructor was 6’6”. I had to fly shoeless in order to clear his hips, but we fit
Excelente.
yes very hard to hear ans then when volume is turned up the wind noise was to much.
Wowww. Coolll.
Do you need a tail wheel endorsement to fly a Piper Cub?
Yes, you would need the endorsement. You can read about it in the FARs CFR 14 61:31(i)(1)
Gee, I don't know????
Does it have a tailwheel? 🙃
😃 Espectacular muy bien 😃👍
muchas gracias amigo : )
🧻 …epic!
That's the first time I've EVER seen a plane shut down by grounding the mags.
I love the Cub but its always been a border line ultra light kinda plane to me it would freak me out to fly one
I love that .realy is great
You should never cut toilet paper with your prop because it can get stuck inside the cowling and get on the mufflers and start a fire. ALWAYS cut it with your wings.
Can you not get lost and not find the airport?
nICE FLIGHT § tHANK YOU FOR VIDEO §
Great video but when you are out in the wind, you'll have to invest in a dead cat thingy. Also work on your camera movement :)
Fire, FIRE, !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Camera person needs to stand closer to pilot so his voice is louder.
Sick plane I hear they're expensive
Smooooooth 😉
TURN IT UP .WHAT DID HE SAY ?
give him the mike so we can hear him fyi
cannot hear anything
can hear you, can barely hear the owner
No wonder there’s no toilet paper on the shelf....lol
Need noise cancel on that audio
Those thins on the nose are "eyebrows"
high def camera. fruit of the loom tube sock covered mic.
WW2 happened in 1935 !
No. It's not a world war until the whole world is involved, as implied by the title.
wind blowing cancels out your voices....you need closed captions badly!!!!!!!!!
