    I feel very attracted to working with birch bark. Perhaps is because I saw Ray Mears do it when I was a kid or maybe I have Nordic roots.

    Thats incredible. I wonder if I could make a hot tub out of bark? Then drop hot stones into the water to heat it up.

    I've seen these birch baskets in latvia, where people would collect mushrooms and berries in them.

      Wild foraging was my intended purpose in researching how these are made. I'm impressed by its validity for so many things

    You could repair the old basket with pine pitch the way that one would repair a birch bark canoe, but I'm sure that you are aware of that. Thanks for the great video.

    • @Arthurian.
      @Arthurian. ปีที่แล้ว

      Pine pitch is really quite brittle. Do you think it would Crack up from use?

    • @charlesleblanc6638
      @charlesleblanc6638 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Arthurian. you also need to add animal fat to it, so it won't be brittle.

    Does anyone know how to make the birch bark hat? Or at least how to shield on the hat/cap is attached?

    That is fantastic work! I'm very glad I found this channel! On a similar topic, many peoples around the world use bark cloth for making clothing and fabrics for varied purposes. Does Mr. Kochanski have any knowledge or experience in making bark cloth? And I wonder what kinds of trees would be suitable in the Ohio area for making bark cloth (tulip poplar perhaps)?

    Mr. Kochanski, can you show how to make a model birch bark canoe? It's really cool and i'd love to know how to make one.
    Thanks

    • @Karamat
      @Karamat  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No treatment. Harvest and carve.

    I've been wondering, do birch bark baskets require oiling to keep them supple?
