One of Mors Kochanski's passions has been crafting with Birch Bark. Here he talks about different crafting ideas. Filmed in 2012 at Karamat Wilderness Ways' course site. #MorsKochanski #KaramatWildernessWays
beautiful work with the birch bark, I have read in a book about the canoe made by the indian, great model you have there, thanks for showing and explaining, take care Taro
You could repair the old basket with pine pitch the way that one would repair a birch bark canoe, but I'm sure that you are aware of that. Thanks for the great video.
Yeah started working with birch bark 5 years ago I'll do until I die, it's calming and breathe taking how beautiful the art that comes out of these wonderful trees.
That is fantastic work! I'm very glad I found this channel! On a similar topic, many peoples around the world use bark cloth for making clothing and fabrics for varied purposes. Does Mr. Kochanski have any knowledge or experience in making bark cloth? And I wonder what kinds of trees would be suitable in the Ohio area for making bark cloth (tulip poplar perhaps)?
Thank you for your knowledge.
That canoe is so cool
This generous man is the heart and soul of Bush craft. Many thanks to you Sir.

I feel very attracted to working with birch bark. Perhaps is because I saw Ray Mears do it when I was a kid or maybe I have Nordic roots.

Thats incredible. I wonder if I could make a hot tub out of bark? Then drop hot stones into the water to heat it up.
I've seen these birch baskets in latvia, where people would collect mushrooms and berries in them.
Wild foraging was my intended purpose in researching how these are made. I'm impressed by its validity for so many things

Pine pitch is really quite brittle. Do you think it would Crack up from use?
@@Arthurian. you also need to add animal fat to it, so it won't be brittle.

Does anyone know how to make the birch bark hat? Or at least how to shield on the hat/cap is attached?

Mr. Kochanski, can you show how to make a model birch bark canoe? It's really cool and i'd love to know how to make one.
Thanks
Love it, how is the bark treated before being worked on? Any tips?
No treatment. Harvest and carve.
Awsome, many thanks 🙏 🙂
I've been wondering, do birch bark baskets require oiling to keep them supple?
I don't believe they need any oiling.
Lmao you look like a Jojo character with that thing on Mors
Beautiful work. Can you share anything about the brand of neck knife you have? Thanks.
Hi Joe,
He is wearing a skookum bush knife made by Rob Garcia in Montana
Lori--thanks.
