Superb and surprisingly neat when finished- I live in the UK, by the way, so don’t worry about including me in the draw, the postage would be enormous! Happy New Year to you both and indeed to everyone!
Congratulations, @musrusticus6890! You WON the basket!! Send us an email at stockmanoriginal@protonmail.com and we'll send it to you. Seriously! th-cam.com/video/PgspgakyrcU/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for watching and being part of the Original Tribe! To celebrate the new year we're giving away this birch bark basket that Brian shows you how to make in this video! Watch to the end to find out how to enter. (Oh, OK, just like the video and leave a comment, but watch to the end, anyway!)
We love watching your channel. Many years ago I bought a 1939 book called Woodcraft by Bernard S. Mason. Great book with a section on birch bark baskets and boxes among many other things. While hiking in the woods one time we found an old birch tree that had rotted and left just the bark. We harvested every scrap of it using it for many things including fire starting. Looking forward to more of your videos.
I so enjoy watching your videos and learning about old crafts! I never imagined that roots were used to stitch baskets. How cool is that! Thanks so much for keeping the ancient arts alive!
This channel has been a fountain of knowledge since I discovered it, and has led me to giving a number of the things you showcase a go. Thank you Brian and Max for sharing with the rest of us
Thanks for sharing this. My daughter is into organizing tools for the pantry so I showed her this and told her this is what some of her ancestors would have done for pantry organizing containers!😅
@@StockmanOriginal We are indeed just around the corner...we should collaborate on something some time; there is certainly a lot of overlap in what we like to do!
love that wee bit of knowledge regarding the basket design. I think the noble prize for tech and design should be given for the birch bark canoe. It is the mona lisa of bushcraft design. Genius. I use white spruce root. It works in a pinch.
Thanks Timothy for being part of the tribe! You’re right, the birchbark canoe is a marvel for sure and so is the lnuit kayak. Both amazingly adapted to their environment.
How could a comment on this video be anything but nice?!? Terrific work & craftsmanship! As always, thank you for sharing! I sure hope I win that basket!
I've been watching your channel for a long time, all of this information is invaluable for a young Viking reenactor and craftsman like myself. Unfortunately living in Georgia I don't have access to birch trees to make something like this, I'd love to be entered in. You guys keep being awesome and rolling out such useful videos and I'll keep watching!!
Great inspirational video!! We love the art of getting back to nature and using what we have around us to sustain and thrive. Watched today from the comfort of our kitchen in sunny AZ.
Thank you. I've made a few bb baskets and I'm happy to add your wonderful tips to my library of basket skills. I came because of your carving bit tip and am very happy to be exploring your library of skills.
Hello Zimitt, we are so happy you have found our channel!! We very much enjoy putting these videos together and it’s so nice to hear that they are being enjoyed. Best of luck with the drawing!
Very cool video, great work guys. I enjoyed watching the whole process. Thank you for the opportunity to win a super nice basket, and the old basket you found in the attic is such a nice piece of history, wow super cool !!!
Thank you Lilyofthevaleyrising, for me it’s not about “ look what I can do “ but rather “ look what you can do “. At least that’s what I hope for. Good luck with the drawing.
Love watching your channel the attention to detail and the knowledge provided while you work is great always learning something from you. Keep up the great content!!
Hello Dawn, we’re so happy that you found our channel, welcome to the tribe! Good luck with the drawing. Would love to see your crocheted baskets sometime.
Hello Lucius, l’ve never had much luck with peeling in the winter, the bark is stuck tight at that point. Maybe if you had a steam box. Good luck on the drawing.
That would be awesome, but Im a process whore. Love making things of all kinds. Just made my first batch of black powder, works great! Made a couple of capotes, a wolf ear hat, just ordered a tanned red fox hide to make a free trapper hat. Gonna steal your leather scallop hat brim so it looks like beaver tail ;) So I will watch the remainder of your published videos and see what else I can steal. Keep the vids coming!@@StockmanOriginal
I love watching your videos!!! Always great info and you explain what you're doing in a way so easy to understand like using the awl actually just moved the bark fibers apart keeping the fiber strength. Always an inspiration... Thank you both for making these videos for those who want to learn. PS - I shared on my fb page.
I absolutely love it 😊 i have to try making one of these baskets. How fresh is the bark when ready for use..? Right away or does it need any treatment..? 😊
