Me and my partner just watched this through after having completed It Takes Two for the second time. This was really impressive. How do you find all these shortcuts? Is it mostly trial and error, with a knowledge of level design so you can make educated guesses as to where they will be?
I'm glad you too enjoyed the run! Usually its a larger community effort! Early on its a lot of trial and error but as we learn more about the game and develop tools, we are able to find more complex tricks, like that skip in Spaced Out (26:00). This trick was found with the efforts of a Glitch Hunter and also a Router. With the use of tools the showed us hitboxes we found out the UFO is just "loaded" out in space. We are able to launch Cody over there with the use of a glitch and some lineups, get a checkpoint, and progress from so much further in the level!

Like, did you initially play It Takes Two (as it was intended), and enjoy it enough to speedrun? Or did you go straight into speedrunning, because it was a popular game in the speedrunning community etc?
@@AndySomething Oh, that's a great question, it really depends! Speedrunning is really subjective and its completely up to you how you enjoy/pick a game to play. I'm personally a huge fan of games with deep and complex movement systems! In the case of ITT (It Takes Two) I had played it casually and the big thing that brought me in (besides its insanely fun and in-depth movement) was the fact its was Co-op! Speedrunning will often be a very solo experience and its really something special to work together with someone else to go as fast as possible! If you two haven't played it, I would really recommend playing Portal 2 Co-op and then watching the All Main Courses Run by AJ and betsruner from SGDQ 2020, that's another crazy Co-op run from a marathon thats nothing like the causal playthrough :D

have you thought about doing some commentary for speedruns? My brain just struggles to procress what's going on sometimes and I think it would be really interesting to hear your insights if you're willing to share.
That's a slide jump! We use them all over the run and they're performed by entering a slide (by sprinting dashing or frog jumping (dash+jump at the same time) and holding crouch) and jumping out of it! They give you extra height compared to a normal grounded jump and are extremely useful basically everywhere!
We kinda did, the hitbox for the tool box is actually always active! We happened to find a sneaky little spot we can shoot it from in the window around 3:12 which is what you can see Bytez shooting at :D A fun fact: this boss fight went through a ton of iterations near the inception of the speedrunning community. It started by climbing the wall behind the boss and shooting the canaster early, to realizing we could hit it at the start of the chase section with a tight angle, and finally the way we do it today! All these methods were found within the first month or so of the games release!
