    When the western developed industrial development, they were improving the lives of the people.
    But, today the same work is being done by the developing countries, so they are becoming the factors of climate change.

    1) The proposition did not blame the west, but correctly pointed out that poor countries need time to catch up, because developed countries has already done their fair share of pollution during their developing stage. It's not fare to ask developing countries not to prioritize their development.
    2) Even to this date, most developed countries have a higher carbon footprint per-capita than developing countries (per-capita is what matters). Therefore, they don't have a right to pressure developing countries. But instead they should help developing countries with knowledge and resources, such as, green technologies and strategies.
    3) Colonial rule has done more harm to developing countries than good. Not only economically, but also socially. Today's generation in Britain, does not have to feel guilty for their sins of their ancestors, but acknowledgement can go a long way.

      If they are still developing, then they could implement new technologies more easily instead of following just the same path.

      “Fair share of pollution?” I already know this food is a deontologist - all the unfalsifiable “seeking justice” middle child syndrome BS. If you want to increase well being actually introduce mathematically well functioning system of liberalism as in read John Stuart Mill summary of what is needed to govern society towards wealth and prosperity instead of this obsession of settling some fantasy score. Stop being a sore loser and don’t tell me about justice because it can not be put to test or measured and is precisely what tyrannical regimes you quietly support sell to take away rights and protections. we do not accept the sins of our father as our own but we may inherit his wealth, we do not accept the sins of our father as our own but we may inherit the land he has killed for, we must not accept the sins of our father as our own but we may force others not to do the same as he, we may prevent them from gaining the same standards of living that we have or at the very best slow down that achievement costing the lives of innocent children. we may ignore the bad things of our past but we must never sacrifice those very thing that have been gained through those very means...... i wonder why....... could it be we are not thinking about the common good of humanity and just about ourselves or do we really think that somehow over the last few generations that we have completely grown beyond this if you believe so i envy the reality you are living in..........

      DG, genetic studies show us that aside from the FIRST WAVE of HUMANS which came out of Africa, ALL --- ALL following waves of humans --- where such genetics studies also show that, for almost EVERY REGION on earth, there have been SEVERAL subsequent over-print waves of humans --- have "pushed out" the preceding inhabitants. In view of this FACT, our task, for each respective region, is to identify ONLY the proper ORIGINAL inhabitants; where, then, and only then, can we reapportion "wealth".
      Until that time, I, for one of many, will NEVER believe that you are making any kind of proposal, whatsoever, for the common good of humanity; moreover, I see your motivations as being those of the most self-serving, craven and arrogant kind.

      He’s challenging the narrative that the West is oppressing the rest of the world through climate change, and that the drastic reduction in global poverty rates is directly as a result of the industrial revolution which seems to be exactly what people are opposing. It’s only a luxury of the rich to want to battle climate change, most people around the world are just worried about having food, water shelter and not freezing to death. If I was in a developing nation I would rather light a fire and expel CO2 than have my family freeze to death.

      BH, exactly! Where are the rotten fruit/vegetable baskets when needed? I've listened to this twice, and, still, cannot say in which direction he's going. At some point in his speech, just for the sake of clarity, this guy needed to emphasize his main points; where, in the end --- the only time at which he came near to giving that sort of message --- I can say that hardly did he do any such thing. People have said often that Shakespeare needed an editor. Well, sadly, this guy needed to just shut up.
      I will bet that in his immediate audience --- not to mention this international one, online --- he left them/us, for the most part, lost and confused.

    It is man born well-fed and well-dressed who proposes we do not dwell on how we got here. It is the citizen born in a society of privilege who proposes we judge the country, not its people. It is the father who does not fear for his children who finds it funny to jokingly defend the injustices of this world.

    Despite a very amusing style this argument has been delivered in, the argument itself is weak. And I say this despite still being undecided on which side of the spectrum I would fall on should I have to vote on exactly this topic.

    • @MrApplewine
      @MrApplewine 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Agreed, this was a horrible speaker / argument. If you are undecided I suggest you check out some videos from Alex Epstein on TH-cam, or read his book "The Moral Case for Fossil Fuels". The attack on fossil fuels and this idea of catastrophic global warming I do not agree with at all.

    • @aninditayadav5111
      @aninditayadav5111 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I know right? He said preposterous things unabashedly, hard to believe he is a lawyer seeing him yap his arguments like that haha. His attitude reminded me of "if we should die tonight, we should die together".
      Anyway, to counter mrapplewine- fossil fuel is a part of the problem but not the problem. It is the most efficient source of power currently and the whole world (not only for power but also logistics depend on it). I would also suggest you watch docuseries like Planet Earth to understand other species on our planet a bit closer to see the impact of climate change and connect with non-human aspects of our unthoughtful human actions. For climate change specifically- Climate Change- the facts by David Attenborough would be a good one.

      DV7, after you have become more worldly, I predict that you will find --- without doubt --- that this dramatic device has been played 100s, if not 1000s, of times; where, I will even venture to say, that most of these other instances were accomplished by some better-qualified drama queens. Good grief. PS: are you by any chance in "theatre"? If yes, I suggest that you find some representation and sue for costs and damages.

    So many people are stuck with colonialism. Blaming colonialism that is. What race or group of people did not conduct colonialism? Even remote tribes conduct their small version of colonialism. The reality is, the more advance they become, the more advance is their colonialism. Don't be a hypocrite. Your tribe may not have conducted noticeable colonialism in the past because it didn't have the capability.
    One fact remains, the white race ended slavery. If it weren't for them, slavery might have languished until today. Which is still existing in some parts of the world. Especially in the Arab world. Contrast the state of domestics in the western world and in the arab world for example.
