Sorry for the audio in this one. I was using the microphone on my new camera, and it isn’t as good as I was expecting. This was recorded on the same day as the last, so the next brochure video, which will be up on 15th September, will be better!

I hope you can get your hands on an early 90s Mini brochures so we can see the differences in marketing strategy in between the decades.
    As always, top work!

Super little cars. Just love them.

My Dad bought his first new car in 1981: an X-reg silver Clubman estate (just like the one in the brochure) with black trim. He traded in his L reg Maxi for it. He'd had a few Minis before in the 60s & 70s, including an early dark green Mini Van (which I used to bounce around in the back on a blanket as a toddler - different times!), and a red Cooper with a black roof that used to go like stink!

Have to say that the *Clubman* front end was a breath of fresh air for the Mini. That dramatic face-lift did wonders for the mini, especially the 1275GT. On its introduction, it looked brilliant.

Owned 4 Minis starting with a 77 Antique Gold Clubman Estate bought in 79 followed by a brand new Mini 1000 (Inca Yellow) in 1980, a Champagne Beige "quiet" Mini 1000 in 1981 and finally a Denim Blue metallic Mini HL (as illustrated in the brochure) in 1982. A MG Metro replaced the Mini and from there I went on to own a Maestro 1300 and two Montego 1600 estates. Happy days.

My 3rd mini was a 1979 V reg clubman, not an estate. It had the 1098 cc engine & went brilliant. It really did feel quick. I think that was the best engine for the mini.

This really shows how BL/Austin Rover were desperately short of funds. The promotion of a retrim as "new features" seems somewhat desperate now. Very interesting to see the change in the marketing over the years. Thanks Ed.

I bought a brand new Clubman saloon in August 1980. I’m not sure I realised I was buying one of the last of them.

Top notch job..... In high school a good friend had a "real" Mini Cooper, not sure of the year but is a blast to take up in the hills. Fun times, Thanks for your time, work and posting your work for up to view........ Stay Safe......

Another great video, one video that would be interesting would be the the re introduction of the mini Cooper in 1990.

Very interesting video, Ed. I so wish I still had the Mini brochure I picked up at the Toronto International Auto Show. The Canadian version was, by necessity, somewhat different. If memory serves, Mini here had the 1100 badge on the boot. I know it had the 5 mph safety bumpers and head restraints on the front seats. Earlier this summer I saw an early 80s Mini on the road. Compared to my 1990 Volvo 240, it really was tiny. Then again, compared to the BMW Mini, it looks even smaller!

Interesting and maybe slightly odd they dropped the 1098cc for the load carrying estate. I assume the van had a separate brochure then?

@Sodham G'morris thanks, makes sense. Amazing how valuable the vans are now.

@Sodham G'morris yes, my grandad worked on a farm and the boss had one for scouting about his land and hurtling around back lanes.

Great video! Very nostalgic to see Minis from this era and earlier in your video covering the 1977 model range!

Perhaps it’s the photography in that brochure, or the nostalgia from the memories of my uncle owning the ‘Mayfair’ edition, but the Mini looks somehow really contemporary in the first picture.
I had a mini van briefly, it was a bit rough.
    Great brochure content.

The Clubman estate. 😍 I imagine Metro sales were what eventually killed it off in 1982.
Always preferred the slab fronted Minis to the traditional styled ones.

At what point did the Clubman-nosed Mini finally disappear? I always assumed the Estate reverted to the round nose once the Clubman was dropped in favour of the Metro, but apparently not!

    • @mattw8332

1982, I guess killed off by Metro sales.

@@mattw8332 So was the Estate as a whole killed off after 1982, or did they keep the Estate, but with the round nose in place of the Clubman nose?

    • @mattw8332
      @mattw8332 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@judethaddaeus9742 The estate as a whole finished in `82 with the slab front end. There was no round nosed estate after around 1969/70 (?). The Clubman name was dropped in 1980 I think around the time of the Mini Metro launch.

@@mattw8332 Right, the Clubman name was dropped, but the nose stuck around on Estates until they were dropped in 1982. Makes sense. Thanks for the clarification!

Personally I prefer the Mini City. The super basic specification, and the centre mounted speedo really do it for me.
