- A remake and also a requested video. The quality of the first video was not good enough and i removed it shortly after i posted it a few months ago.
Chief Security Garibaldi investigates an attack by raiders and Commander Sinclair leads an attack.

I always like how the Starfurys launched from B5 and how they are stored.
Attention to detail when telling a story is fantastic, and why B5 is still the best Sci-Fi story arc IMO
Yep, it's the only way you can excit a rotating space station unless it's through the middle but that's already the landing bay and too slow in an emergency.
Too bad we never got to see combat deployment from Earth Alliance´s Omega destroyers. They had cobra bays at the end of rotating sections so the fighters would be thrown out of the ship in a circle around the ship before regrouping to minimize the risk of enemy wiping them out with one salvo as was the danger with launch from forward bays. And we never saw Omega destroyers open missile silos on the hull and fire broadsides like age of sail ship or the gimbals that turned the engines for maneuvers, they were always pointed straight back. Animators just did not have enough time between episodes to do everything they wanted.
It is almost inaccurate to say "launched" here due to them using the nature of the centrifugal force. Most times when people talk about something launching, it is either being propelled via its own means such as a rocket is in and of itself, or something like a catapult on a carrier. Rarely are people talking about something simply being let go.
It really is a great bit of detail that comes straight out of Mark Twain's rulebook, as he said "Get your facts first, and then you can distort them as much as you please." (combined with a little of the KISS principle.... keep it simple, stupid.)
@@Matej_Sojka It may not have been the animators didn't have time to create those animations, remember that with as old as this show is there were much stricter limitations on what the computers could handle in terms of graphics.
@@Rembanspellsong When MJS and animators in charge say in interviews that they ran out of time to fix some things in CGI, like Vesta Omega Destroyer appearing episodes after where it was not supposed to be because they did not have time to go over the file and change the name on the hull, I believe them.
I didn't know it was even possible for a spacecraft to look that cool. Starfuries are just visual orgasms.

@@Rembanspellsong I think it was more inspired by The Last Starfighter and they tried to design a fighter using real physics and equal engines... The designer said its' more of a blunt shape than that of an x-wing, and also the angle of the wings are different...

In hindsight I agree. Not at the time. Only years later when someone told me that it was the best ever from season 2 I tried again. But after watching it again after having seen the series a few times it gets better every time. I guess that's what happens with a proper hero and anti hero quest.
i always remembered the theme that started playing when they would launch the star furies. I even would start to hum it when they launched no matter what was playing.

The Raiders were a problem during Babylon 5 Season 1 ... until the Shadows took them out!😂
Well, they werent taken out. They remained in the background and would occassionally pop out, ie "Thirdspace", "Paragon of Animals".

Also, proving once again, The Shadows solve problems. And Justin was right about everything. And Anna Sheridan is hotter than Delenn.
Don't forget they lost one of their major arms dealers thanks to the Shadows....the Narn so that's probably why they were so quit for so many years and didn't pop back up till after the Shadow war.
I love this scene! The sounds of the Starfury and Raider fire is really cool. Did you do any audio changes with this video in editing for copyright reasons, or is it straight from the episode?
I didnt change any audio like i did before. I did boost the volume of it a little for i thought it was a bit to tame. Thanks for watching and your reply. I appreciate it.
@@JK-Visions I also love the music at 1:02! Christopher Franke was amazing, controlling the subtle changes in the music. I hope JMS brings him back for the reboot.
I found it regrettable that the Raiders didn't get much screentime, Space Pirates are always a cool thing. And too bad that their background wasn't really explored. I always wondered about the Raider Fighter, was this an early EarthForce Fighter?
I always wondered why they would use such ineffective fighters against the much better starfuries.
@@JK-Visions As I wrote, it was apparently an early EarthForce Fighter, before the Starfury was introduced. At least that was written in the Babylon 5 wikia. But I also believe that the Raiders were never fully developed, if I remember correctly JMS said once that they were never meant to be a serious threat!

@@JK-Visions It would be a case of what they can afford and they don't really expect to go up against a better armed and trained opponent. Just as pirates off Somalia would use fishing boats and skiffs against freighters etc, they would not stand a chance against a warship but the chances of them getting caught were low.
@@JK-Visions Not sure about it but they don´t look like an earth force desgin. Cant give you an scource but i belive it was meant to be the drags of the very first narn fighters, sould durring and after the Earth-Mimbari War

Babylon 5 was the only science fiction show to get technical support from JPL. That says it all!
I thought that was very special too at the time. Brought JMS a lot of extra knowledge. And he used it too.
Starfuries remind me of Marauders from that old game "Spaceship Warlock".

Starfury is always my most favourite starfighter. Too bad i failed to get its model kit, damn.
The model kit is awesome. I have one painted but without the stickers. I got lucky to find it a long time ago for about 50 euro together with the Babylon 5 station. The B5 station was painted and with stickers and the guy who sold it was really a pro so I am still extremely glad I bought it like 15 years ago I think. I am not very good at painting revell models.
Perhaps they are sold on ebay or other places?

Btw there's some cool detail on this video. If you notice the thruster, they only ignited when they'r about to change course or speed. It the same as how speed work IRL in zero gravity.

They had a bomber type version that had a rear turret called the Badger (I think), but the Starfury were that manoeuvrable they could turn quite quick, like in the video.
This would remove the Newtonian visuals the Starfury had if rear guns were added.
And raider ships are converting air craft so they aren't as suited for the 4D warfare that is fighter combat in space.

Did the series ever talk about when Garibaldi was Starfury certified? As a grunt/security guy, I wouldn't have expected him to be... and if it was required for the posting, Zack was never qualified.

After all the recent space opera vomit with some exclusions, I am so astonished this is from 1994 and already forgot how good it really is. The attention to detail makes it so immersive. Most of today's shows are far campier than this.
With only 10 episodes a season I am afraid we won't see that again very soon.

Great wish list! I have one from Revell i think. But i bought it already build. Just like a B5 model. I couldn't match making and painting the models myself. Though in recent years some solar panels broke of so I need to fix that soon. The Starfury is painted but not stickered.

Okay, I am about to be an asshole, but I can't help it. I love B-5 and think it is the greatest sci-fi show ever made! As a small example, the character development between Lando an G'Kar was nothing short of brilliant! However, in this episode, it is hard for me to believe that both the commander of the station AND the chief of security would man fighters and leave B-5 to engage an attacking force. Sinclair's primary responsibility in this situation would have been on the bridge (command and control) directing the defense of the station, NOT acting as a junior officer flying a fighter. And Garibaldi? His main responsibility as chief of security would have been insuring the internal security of the station under a highly stressful situation for everyone on board. Putting them both into fighters, a job normally relegated to junior officers, just doesn't make sense.
You are right. But it's the same when Picard in star trek goes on a mission by himself. It's the nature of tv. You can't show your characters if they stay in 1 place. It's not real life:)

They didn't go out together, Garibaldi took one other fighter on a mission to answer a distress call and then later Sinclair took out an entire squadron to engage the raiders without Garibaldi. That said both of those cases seem pretty reasonable they are fully qualified pilots, in Garibaldi's case he was investigating a possible threat to station security, albeit an external threat, and in Sinclair's case he was commanding B5's forces in a combat operation. It actually seems pretty reasonable that they might want a senior officer present if they are going to engage and possibly capture enemy ships.
I seem to recall the show creator justifying Sinclair leading the Star Furies as it being good for promotion to have as much combat experience on one's record as possible. Plus it would make sense that someone who is used to being in the thick of action but is now stuck behind a desk dealing with feuding diplomats would seize every opportunity to get back into the cockpit even if technically he should let more junior officers go in his place.
@@dominicbrennan1882 Also remember that Sinclair came from a fighter background, and was suffering survivor's guilt, he is actually called out on the fact he keeps doing stuff like this in the show
The only downside to B5 clips is that so much of the cast is dead now.

Lmao, did even you watch this show? It constantly says that xenophobia and racism/speciism is bad and multiculturalism and ethnic diversity good. Ivanova and Talia are bi, Sheridan dates Asian, Sinclair dates alien, Delenn essentially transitions to become another species and has to face abuse from both humans and minbari because of it, she was actually supposed to be male in pilot episode and later become female but this concept was dropped after the pilot because of technical difficulties. The whole point of b5 station is to promote cooperation between people while groups like Home Guard are shown to be unmistakably evil. So yeah, this show is woke to its core and you should stop liking it immediately.

TNG was also the same way, and it was in no way "woke" as it's meant today.
Discovery is "woke". Picard is "woke". DS9 is not.
Promoting equality and coexistence is fine, and nobody had an issue with that, and still don't. (Well, some idiots may but they are a small yet vocal minority. Ignore them.)
Replacing previously established characters with "diverse" replacements for the sake of getting brownie points on social media is "woke".
Changing well established stories with feminist/anti-white/anti-male plots for the sake of social media brownie points is "woke".
Telling a good story with merits of it's own, based in logic and reason, that happens to have a female character, or a gay character, but not making the entire show that was previously about something else, into a show about gays or women, is not "woke", but is inclusive and can be good storytelling. Shoehorning in political theater for the sake of pushing an agenda, is "woke".
"Wokeness" kills franchises. It causes everything good to turn to shit, and everybody knows it.
Media began self-destructing when political ideologies and personal agendas started overriding good storytelling and having a coherent plot that everybody, no matter their background, could identify and understand. Targeting HUMANS instead of *insert group we want to pander to here*.
