Anyway... The Phrase " What's up Blood " was used all over the country in the late 60's by guys coming back from Viet Nam. We called each other " Blood Brother's , No way Blood, what you talking about Blood " all these things were common sayings and used all the time. I remember the OG Inglewood Crips saying , calling each other Cuzz in the early 70's. 71-72. As far as the Chaingang at Morningside from 71- 74 I never remember Any Chaingang/ Family calling each other Blood. " We Called each other Brother or Comrade ".... Ask the Guys from Inglewood high how they addressed each other at that time from 71-74. .... SINBAD 👑

I am 52 years and I can remember the term Cuzz And Blood both being used as standard greeting's all my life as a small boy.
I never heard the term blood applied to any specific street gang or group until at least 1975,76 or so, cause back then everybody said "Blood" 1st.
And as far as Brims, Piru's, Swans DL's, etc, I recall hearing about them but never unified under one Name As Bloods until much Later.
Early 70's, 74 or so, I recall my Uncle's homeboy Ronny saying "PIRU How about You", who was also the younger teen brother to a Crip, But never heard anyone Identifying it with being synonymous with the Blood term until Crippin was in Full Effect with the stylized Color Code and Blue Rags.
"Chitty Chitty BANG bang Nuttin But Crips N thangs" with the girls having the signature peroxide red Spot on their Hair to symbolize that they were Criplelttes.
I understand JokoMoe Saying how his Pops Called him a Blood because my Grandfather as well as other older Men in the community would use that term.
But I don't believe his Pop's meaning was to apply it to a Street gang affiliation of any particular set or Hood.
I feel It was the Logical and Organic choice for All Non-Crip Affiliates that would Stand in opposition against a Powerful and Fast-growing Enemy
I never heard the term GANG BANGIN or seen anybody Fly that Red Rag in West LA or South Central/Athens really, until late 75-79, nor did I see anything that could be used as a Specific Gang Identifier for other non-Crip hoods.
I can truly say, I hadn't ever seen anybody, as they say, "Flamed uP" and Calling themselves Bloods until the Late70's early 80's.

The dudes that jumped them said "we knew yall was Crips because you said cuzz" this was 1975 at Los Angeles High School when I heard this, this is when I found out that blood/cuzz mattered.

I grew up in Detroit. I can remember the term ' Blood' being used in the late 60s early 70s alot of the Vietnam vets used the word as a greeting. What's up young blood? Im 62

    • @BKthoroughbred
      @BKthoroughbred 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

Same in NYC. “Blood” was a coming greeting when I was a little boy. And it was the Nam vets who was a calling us “ Young blood “. Also the term “Cuz” was also used frequently. Both terms are about Love and Family. Because that’s what we ARE.

In L.A. blood was another word for brother in the 60s.

  • @ericdunn7521
    @ericdunn7521 3 ปีที่แล้ว +17

One Other thing I noticed on the subject was how the Brothers said the police had a lot to do with stirring up the pot with their own ideas and Terminology and definitions.
It can also be said that a more sinister and hidden hand could have played a big part in this uprising and culture creation of this new faction, although Babaluie shows undisputed facts about the actual reasons for the formation of the Bloods in the Pen, once the authorities found a suitable rival it became very easy to come with the Psyop...
2 movies were made at the end of that 70's decade 1978 you get The Movie YoungBlood which Happens to be the name of the Main Character.
This flick played not only in the Matinee's all over LA and abroad, but it played for like 2 years.
It was filmed in an uncharted part of west LA and Hollywood so you weren't gone really have no real interference while making it LA in because they knew from the news how serious this thing could get.
Staring: Brother Larry Hilton Jacobs, The brother from the TV show Welcome back Carter And the Movie Cooley High.
The Movie was Clearly a close play on the Bloods, The Leader Romell, who wore a Green Army jacket like the brother Spoke at the beginning of this video when he spoke on the Leader of the Green jackets put the word out on profiling all cats in Crip attire dressed Nutty.
If you see the movie you can clearly tell that the opposing Gang known as the Daltons are the representation of the Crips waring blue beanies Levi's and bomber Black Flap Jackets.
the Movie was filmed I believe in parts of School Yard or Gear Gang territory of that year.
The Next year in 1979 We Get the WARRIOR's although it wasn't LA gang culture that Movie Fand the Flame of Chaos for the new generation to come.
If you was still dancing to the music of Greese with John Travolta who also played a Gang Member as one of the T-Bird's as well as Saturday Night fever with all them Gang Bangin on the Puerto Ricans at their clubhouse where they drove the 64 Impala through the front door as well as all the other inuendos by the end of the Warrior's, a chunk of the Teen movie-going Masses were ready to Join up wit Somthin Fa ShO.

Brims pushed a hard-line on expanding Brims across the Westside, similar to the Crip Expansion.
      59 Brims....From 59th & Vermont they pushed into the 60s & Harvard Park
      62-64-61 Brims , in what today is 62HPB, 67NH, 65MG and NS83 hoods.
      59 Brims
      61-62-64 Brims
      Van-Brims in the 50s.
      Untouchable Brims in the 50s.
Orchard Block Brims in the 40s.
Fruit Town Brims in the 30s.
Black Stone Brims in the Jungles & 20s.
      Broadway Brims.
They were pushing and expanding Brims, not Bloods on the streets.
They was converting areas and gangs into Brims.
Same with the Piru Street Boys. They pushed Piru into different neighborhoods in Compton, not Bloods.
The whole Anti-Crip thing, meeting up in CYA, and bonding to resist the Crips and creating a title/label so they can identify as One, makes all the sense in the World.
All these teenage Anti-Crips were catching cases in 72 going to CYA, meeting up for the 1st time. And what do they have in common?
      It's just logical.
There was no Need for an Alliance til they hit the system and their numbers were too short.
Alliances are birthed in the Jail System.

Im far from an expert but i seen an old TH-cam video with a dude was talking about the crips and denver lanes etc. He didnt sya they were bloods he spoke of them as if they were separate gangs. Big shot out to the person that edited and spliced these videos. AC was kind of funny in some parts.
