In remembrance of General Augusto José Ramón Pinochet Ugarte (25 November 1915 - 10 December 2006)
Music: Adios Mi General (Chilean military song originaly dedicated to the Chilean President and General Manuel Baquedano)
I
Adiós mi general, adiós
Se pierde en lontananza el sol
Y con el último redoble del tambor
se escucha aún el eco de su voz
II
Adiós mi general, adiós
Quiero cerrar filas otra vez
III
Adiós mi general, adiós
El grito que en Chorrillos se escuchó
¡Viva Baquedano vencedor!
Y que del pecho del soldado se
escapó
IV
Adiós mi general, adiós
Solo soy un ciudadano más
Que deudor de su grandeza y sencillez
Hoy vino a despedirlo Don Manuel
Coro
Adiós mi general, adiós
La página que hoy día se cerró
Se abre allá en la historia, como ráfagas de sol
justo en el umbral donde se encuentran
Los valientes, los que se atreven
Los que jamás se han de olvidar
I
Goodbye my general, goodbye
The sun is lost in the distance
And with the last drum roll
An echo of his voice is still heard
II
Goodbye my general, goodbye
I want to close the ranks one more time
In this army which you lead without defeat
And which brought a thousand glories to the fatherland
Chorus
Goodbye my general, goodbye
The page that was closed today
Is open there in history like bursts of sun
Pure like the sun in the threshold where they find them
The brave, the daring
The ones who never have to be forgotten
III
Goodbye my general, goodbye
A scream that was heard in Chorrillos
Long live Baquedano the victor!
Which escaped from a soldiers chest
IV
Goodbye my general, goodbye
I am only a citizen
Whats more, a debtor to your greatness and simplicity
Today I came to part with Don Manuel
Chorus
Goodbye my general, goodbye
The page that was closed today
Is open there in history like bursts of sun
Pure like the sun in the threshold where they find them
The brave, the daring
The ones who never have to be forgotten

ALWAYS GIVE YOUR BEST
Always remember, others may hate you, but those who hate you don't win unless you hate them, and then you destroy yourself.

I am not Chilean,
I do not speak Spanish,
Yet this song has invoked more emotion from me than any other media I have ever seen
That’s makes two of us
The correct timing is very important.
Adios Mi General.
So sad, cant wait to celebrate our beloved general B-bay by tossing Castro in the deep ocean, under the sound of moving rotors.

Rest In Peace General! You saved Chile and made it not only the most prosperous country in south- and middle America but also a true democracy!
Thank you for your work.

Do / Would you do a German language 'MiniYule'?
I unfortunately possess no German language that wasn't gifted to my native Anglish but given the Roots of the seasonal celebration and digital cheer & networking it brings forth it would seem a fitting franchise & would warm my heart just knowing it occurred; even more if it became a new digital National folk tradition of every European lingua-sphere.
Frankly I don't have enough time for something like that. I'm no "professional TH-camr" and work full time.
I prefer to spend the little spare time that I have at this time of the year with my loved ones.
Besides that my content was always in English, so I'm not sure if it would make much sense to host hangouts in German. After all, only about 15% of my subscribers are from German speaking countries. But I like the idea. Would be great to see a German language equivalent of what Woes does with Millenniyule.

Which is absolutely the right choice & I wish you & your family all the joys of the season.
As for a Deutsche MiniYule, (& the rest), we can just spread the seeds now & see what grows.
Wassail.
LOVE!!!!!!!

What did the crowd say at the end?
The Soldiers said "Good Afternoon my General:
Had a tear in my eye.
Not to thrilled about the General, but then again that wasn't my Circus.
Don't cry because it's over
Smile because it happened
Ya almost tear up dont ya?
That song is about General Baquedano one of the heroes of the Pacific War when Chile defeated Peru y Bolivia
sorry...
Well I don't think so.
The song was conveniently written & first performed a while after Pinochet's death. And also, more importantly, the artist responsible for it, Wiley (I think that's what he goes by) is known to be a Pinochetist artist.
@@davidfreeman3083 not really in one part it says baquedano so yeah it is a song about general baquedano who fought agaisnt he peruvians and bolivians in the pacific war, he led the 7th line and hes remembered for his honor in battle, but anyways pinochet also will be remembered... of course for getting communism out of latin america.
@@Rodmc-ty2bi Well that could very well be a 'shield', as given how controversial Pinochet is (especially among the artistic community, like in many other places those ppl are generally liberal/progressive I think it's safe to say that vast majority of Chilean artists hate Pinochet to death) writing a song openly praising him would probably be too risky. Hence the writer mentioned Baquendano trying to prevent ppl from relating it to Pinochet. I suspect the singer himself was meant to commemorate Pinochet as I mentioned above he campaigned for Pinochet's continued rule in 1988 referendum, and lobbied for his release after foreign & domestic govs tried to hold him accountable for his 'brutality' during dictatorship. Of course maybe he is just the singer of this version, and this song especially the lyrics might be a folklore from the Baquendano era.
