I was in a sports bar in Birmingham on the Saturday afternoon with old friends no longer around watching this Cup Final in May 1999. Loved every second of it on a bright sunny warm day checking off Part 2 of the unique Treble winning season. Memories to last last a lifetime. A great Man Utd team.
1:17:48 to 1:18:53 such a great passage of play from United, dominated Newcastle. People may talk about Cruyff’s total football (each player being able to fulfill another player’s position on the pitch) but to me this team put together by Sir Alex played total football (could counter attack, long balls down the channels, crosses from wide, kept possession when they wanted to, could defend deep or in a high line, this team just had everything).
This Man United team was special super special, big up Sir Alex Ferguson, Paul scholes was a super talented player,,I need to see this fight in our team again,
I don't care what anyone says , the Atmosphere and the occasion at the Old Wembley is miles better than it is at the new one . The long walk from the tunnel to under the Royal Box , the Captain going up first to collect the Cup was all part of the Big day . Now the Captain goes last as all the players do that silly dance as he lifts the Cup . I never missed a Cup Final from 1969 to 2007 , now i don't even bother watching
Ah, nostalgiahh. Cheers for this & to think was over 20 yrs ago 😮. The 'backpass rule' changed the game so much when introduced yrs before this of course, but not sure if it was for the good or worse tbh
20:48 And this is why your first touch is so important. Cole's pass had way too much pace. But Teddy's control allowed him to kill it and start the give an go with Scholes which allowed him to score. What a player Teddy was
Newcastle were unlucky to reach the final in between the Keegan and Robson eras, when we weren't half as good, and also that we played the champions in both 1998 and 1999. If we'd have gotten there in 1997 or 2000, we may have faced Boro or Villa instead and might have stood a chance.
His crossing was honestly super good throughout his career. And I mean he was a great player he was the best English right back for along time. To be the best in your position in a country that produces great talent then that is a great achievement. Which made him a great rightback.
Watching football how it was back then and watching football today makes me feel old and shows how much the game has changed. Be interesting to see how much football will change in another 20 years
Yep - much better back then - it's barely a sport now tbh - nowadays its all sideways passing, no tackles, hardly any crosses just endless short passes sideways and backward and zero contact allowed.

Seeing this now.....somewhat the current Man Utd team is like what Newcastle was. And all other teams are now in the old United shoes...... I wonder when will Man Utd return back to its classy attacking style like this.......T_T
Newcastle were very poor in the 98 and 99 finals but against Chelsea in the 2000 semi-final at Wembley they actually played very well and were very unlucky to lose 2-1
Remember the heartache as a Newcastle fan I think we done okay considering the Arsenal and Man U teams we were up against infact the 98 was better than 99 we hit crossbar with dabizas and post with shearer. 2000 definitely our best opportunity and like you say played so well against Chelsea, that thumping header by Lee was amazing because I thought I'd never see Newcastle even score a goal at Wembley. Poyet header hurt me for days had no appetite
Yes, it's shame that when we do get to finals, we tend to face big teams. But Swansea get to one, and face Bradford City. I wish Newcastle would one day win anything!
Apparently Cole and Sheringham have disliked each other since 1997. Google it. edit - I notice the person I originally replied to has since deleted their comment. Terrible being wrong , isn't it :)
it was over not shaking hands after a substitution for england.they werent great mates off the field after that but on the pitch they just got with it and enjoyed the success and what team we were at that time
If they disliked eachother it's funny that they both left the club around the same time. Had Sheringham known Cole would choose to leave a few months into the 2001/02 season maybe Sheringham would've wanted to stay a bit longer than he did lol
@@netweed09 hahahhaha art what??? Gunners 0 champions league 0 Europa legue. Differently gonna be knocked out in the group stages next session Europa lol hhahahha

If I remember correctly, his suspension was applicable for a league match. So he served his ban already prior to the final. Not sure if that still applies to today's rules though.
It's not an European game, it's under the same FA. If he had got a red in a league game, that could have ruled him out of the final. My point is, he missed a couple league games before the final.
Craig07L If you're going to ask that then you may as well have asked why Irwin was suspended for this FAcup final despite getting sent off in a PremierLeague game at Anfield, not in the FAcup. Plus it would've been quite harsh if Keane was suspended for this as well as the ChampionsLeague final that year, especially as he scored a wrongly disallowed goal in the semi-final first match against Arsenal (where he didn't get sent off either) which would've put ManUtd through without needing a replay.
@@danbruno5945 Nah, Newcastle may have played better than Chelsea on the day, but on paper they had a better squad, they were the superior team, they even finished 5th, Newcastle finished 11th.
