Definitely. I as a 20 year old even gets disturbed when I see the thumbnails, let alone the videos. Never watched a single one of them though, I'm not interested in something that will most likely annoy me lol. But I always wondering what these videos are and who makes them and what their intentions are. I remember when I was a kid, probably around 2008, watching similar kind of videos with a friend sometimes, but back then it wasn't easy to find content like this, if there was any to find any at all! Nowadays however, that's a different story... TLDR: So yeah, I think it's kinda toxic for children. And with "kinda" I mean VERY.
The scary thing is that one day... there's going to be people that thought this stuff was nostalgic. Y'know, the ones that say these videos were their entire childhood.

I find it funny how even SEGA has to downplay Sonic at times for the sake of ✨plot✨ like in Lost World or SatSR. It’s like the character is so broken they don’t know what to do XD. Their plot is a lot less shitty though (even though some games are complete trash), at least there’s not constant plot points about death. Sure, a serious story with actual stakes would be great when executed RIGHT. I think almost all of us agree that even the meta era is better than this shit (and by shit I mean the low-budget animation “kids” channels).
A lot of this "kids content" in general is not only bad but also not good to show kids and I think Sonic "kids content" is probably one of the worst offenders. Kids deserve more than this weird bottom of the barrel crap. Just because they aren't as concious about good and bad content doesn't mean people should take advantage of that.
I mean there is actual GOOD Sonic content on here. Like those people acting as the Sonic characters (ex being “ask the Sonic heroes” and those other channels I forget the name of) there’s also stopmotion and plush vids. Hell I’d even say stuff like Sonic Shorts and Nazo Unleashed are good for kids. Sure Sonic Shorts might have a lot of mature humor. But it’s MILES(pun not intended) better then this crap.

I've watched any real Sonic fan animations by different true Sonic fan content creators but I've never encountered these Sonic "kids" content in my life until I discovered this explanation video by random. It’s so weird how when I was a kid, I found a lot of questionable and disturbing Sonic stuff, but this content wasn’t targeted to kids, meanwhile, this stuff is just the same, but with the intention of being shown to kids. Weird as hell.
I remember watching a lot hyper violent Sonic flash animations back in the day and playing weird joke games on sites that just took a bunch of stuff from Newgrounds.
I found these about a month ago when doing keyword research over Sonic the hedgehog on TH-cam to see what sticks and what doesn't and OMG. It's terrifying because they know these very strong algorithm tactics to get on the board. And because they are low effort, they are able to upload consistently. People like this know how to manipulate the algorithm and children and it's disturbing as hell. And I would bet many of these videos consist of these tragedies to avoid being marked for kids. "Would a kids animation really have such violence or drinking?" while knowing FULLY WELL that's who their target audience is. Just look at the titles. They are SPEAKING TO KIDS.
This is a great point, Emi! I highly agree with this. The Sonic kids content just sickens me to my stomach. I watch anything if it's good. A lot of Sonic TH-camrs are just getting their mod videos to "Made for kids" wrongfully and automatically! TH-cam really has to fix their algorithm. I think it's strange how horror animations like Smile HD or Rainbow Factory are considered "adult animations", and yet these "kids" videos, which are likely much more terrifying are considered "family-friendly" by TH-cam and geared towards kids. Like, I need some explanation here.

I know you'll probably never read this, but I think I have an explanation for this phenomenon of "tragedy-core" children's content. See, when I was a child, there weren't any real prevalent kid's channel content farms on youtube, so all I watched was essentially the good shit you'd relate to the mid 2000s youtube experience. One video, however, stuck out to me. MANY people remember it, a video with the title of "Pac Man Movie", a video where a derpy looking orange ghost is sent to die in a war against pacman, and sadness ensues. It's strange looking back at it, it was a video that always fascinated me, ever since I was atleast five years old or so. Nowadays it's tough to think who that video was made for, as our correlation of crappily animated tragic content for children is a pretty new thing, in the era of a more marketable and accessible youtube. So, while I'd like to point fingers at these and say "ew spidelsagate" with the claim of fetishistic content (afterall, Dan Schneider exists), I believe that the people who run these successful content farms simply know that children have an odd fascination with tragedy. It's not even for a very weird reason, it's just a very distant, new feeling that they're fascinated by, just kind of exploited for profit. I say this as a grown up zoomer btw, I'm the closest you have to an explanation for this sort of thing.
That's actually pretty fascinating, I think it's overlooked that children get hooked on things they can tell they wouldn't normally see in their content. they know this is off limits but it's there. It's a very primal thrill thats just pumped into you
I feel like I haven’t seen/heard about this enough so I’ll say it here: not only should you NOT comment on those videos (giving them more traction) but you SHOULD report them... If they get enough reports TH-cam will have to take down the video... Please keep this kind of content away from kids

Especially if one of the reasons you can give for sure is false advertising; if they're truly "for kids" like they say they are, they should be on TH-cam Kids, but clearly they're not, and they're also clearly not for kids due to the topics they indulge in, so either way it's false advertising (and mentally far worse than just that, but that's the main point you can use against all of them in an algorithm as inhuman as YT's)
You would literally be better off just handing your kid a copy of any Sonic game, even Shadow the Hedgehog, and telling them to play that. Far more engaging, and doesn’t expose your kid to stuff that will fuck up their development later on in life.
@ferret I try to take somewhat of the opposite approach with my four haha. We have a “family” Switch that we all play on (provided you get your school/homework done and such), but 99% of the time they’re playing the NES/SNES/N64 classics (their choice), and I’m hanging around to help when they’re stuck because I love all those games and I can’t help myself. My son now has Mario themed everything hahaha. Totally worth the 50 bucks a year imo. Online homework notwithstanding, fuck them tablets

As someone who's an artist and knows allot of friends over on the NSFW Side of things... I can tell you that I've never seen or heard about any Fetishes related to Car Crashes. What I'm pretty sure is happening here though is that these Channels just look at what Sonic Videos get the most clicks... And then from that, just try to make out a Story out of the title of the Video rather than planning a Story first. Because Drama and "Sad Stories" engage the most kids as they feel like it's something they've never seen before.
Well, the "death bed" thing *is* a fetish actually, so it wouldn't be surprising if car crashes and such also were. There are so many fetishes that sometimes even NSFW artists themselves get surprised by them.

Man, I've watched Roger von Deir Weidge Sonic parodies in minutos my whole life, in fact the sole reason I wanted to create a Sonic channel was because of those parodies. Now, you might think "Oh but a parody of a game, is not the same as these low level cartoons/animations" but the general public or the main TH-cam algorithm might not think the same way. It may start classifying every single Sonic animated cartoon or parody as kids content. In fact, in the 90s sonic was not aimed for kids, but for Teenagers.
In Sonic's early life, SEGA made some ads for adult comics in Britain that had a lot more explicit language than the televised adverts. Just shows how Sonic was originally aimed at older people, unlike the Mario series.
This is why I often say that parents really need to be aware of what their kids are doing online. People forget that TH-cam is not a kid-friendly space, nor has it ever been.

The reason we should check what our kids watching is because some of the scenes can be seen inappropriate for the kids and check what those channels might contain

I find it extremely disappointing that they punish those content creators that do warn their public and even provide information in their description about what the video will be about yet TH-cam decides to punish them.

I saw one of these videos. Even after the COPPA violation causing kids content being demonetized, Elsagate-like videos are still a problem on TH-cam. This is why parents need to wise up and keep an eye on what their kids are watching.
The "for kids" setting was put in specifically so that TH-cam don't have to actually put in effort and care about Elsagate videos anymore. As always, when they are forced to act and not given the choice, they make things worse. TH-cam has not made a positive change in 10 years. Demanding they fix a genuine problem like this, it can only end badly. Because they'll come up with ANY option that's not "search through and deleted the bad channel" because that's work.
Sadly, they can't just delete a bad channel, if that channel didn't brake any guidelines. They need to change their guidelines to not allow these types of videos, and that will fix the problem, until these perverts will find a way to get around the algorithm.

For some reason sonic was one of the kid friendly franchises that had more adult content exposed without actively looking for it. I remember when I was younger and looking up sonic amvs on TH-cam (which was probably around the early 2010s) there was quite a bit of mature fanart being shown. However I think this is worse since it’s adult content that’s actually targeted towards kids, I hate that children are being raised with that kind of sonic content especially since it has nothing to do with the sonic lore

Wow I literally got a few videos of this kind of content suggested before watching this video. I had no idea of this "kids content" related to Sonic being present on TH-cam. As someone who studies kids and teens a lot I can see the huge impact these videos can lead to kids...what might see innocent for us is not to them...some kids can't even distinguish reality from fiction until 6-7 years old... TH-cam sacrificed so much (and the TH-camrs took so much of the sacrifice) during Elsagate and it still failed to keep filth like those away from the website. every harsh rule, every cruelty added to the algorithm, every new asinine rule, it was all for nothing.
Iam 12 now and when I was about 6 or so this kind of "kids content" was really popular back then and I feel everly grateful that I knew back then this kind of stuff didn't make any sense or meant anything to me, and I feel infinitely lucky

Stuff like this is the reason why I'm thankful the internet was still relatively new and not as easily accessible when I was growing up. The only computer we had was in the family room and just about everyone could see what you were doing on there. Sure, I still saw some questionable stuff (thanks Newgrounds), but that stuff was obviously bad and I knew it.

My stepmom's kids are constantly glued to her phone or their tablets just to make them shut up, and they watch these type of videos all the time. You'll never know how annoying and scary it is to hear these videos being played full blast all day when I go to stay with them. I'm really glad I grew up in the time I did, instead of being raised by TH-cam.
These people are probably displaying their childhood traumas, including dark topics that consumed their rotted mind throughout their life. Now they are gifting them to vulnerable kids and the cycle may continue.

Kids content covering mature themes is fine shows and movies like Avatar, Ben 10, Generator Rex, Lion King, or Luca. But what these channels are doing is not only exploitive of kids the content itself is well like what you it could lead to deep psychological issues in the future.
I specifically looked this up because I've been getting these in my recommend for a while now and it's creeping me the heck out. I wanted to know that others are seeing it too. I wish these channels would go away.

first off I thank the recommended gods of youtube for this gem (ramble starts below) I can definitely see the effect that it causes on younger kids because I have a 5 year old sibling that is absolutely attracted to this kind of stuff (albeit not as bad as the ones shown but still pretty bad) as it often includes characters that were originally made to be terrifying (siren head, sonic.exe, ect) along with just the plain characters and while I try to steer him away from it and give him a reason he still watches it (much to my dismay). it had given him reoccurring nightmares at one point and he has a warped sense of reality (especially since he watches a lot of fnf or minecraft based youtube videos). "it's that thing from minecraft/fnf!" and he is pointing to something in real life that he has seen in the games. It's really sick that some people do this, and I hope we have another purge of these videos (but knowing trends it will eventually happen again with something else unless youtube does something about it again).

I grew up on Sonic Shorts but I don't think that was a good thing. Most of the jokes went over my head and I mostly just watched it because I liked sonic and "haha sonic do funny" but in rewatching them I realized there was a lot of racy, insensitive, and very similarly gory material to this video--it's newgrounds content after all. I think that sort of early TH-cam newgrounds content really fucked with me in ways that I'm still learning about as I get older
Content like this is something I did see as a small kid, and it's affected me rather oddly. I'm really glad more people are talking about content like this, because they're really bad for a developing child's brain. My mom didn't really look at what I watched as a kid because she was super busy, and my dad was usually working when I was younger as well, in case you're questioning my life on TH-cam as an early age. But then as I got older, around 10 and 13 my mom made me get TH-cam kids, where I saw content like this there as well
"Are children just super interested in these morbid topics, which makes these videos super algorithm friendly?" This is the explanation in my opinion. They are interesting and important topics that aren't actually unusual to see in stories for children. I think the real issue in this case is that these stories are lazy and don't make sense. They use good character designs to clickbait and interesting topics to keep everyone's attention.

I can like imagine a horror movie type of video, yet still accessible to kids AND labeled as “made for kids” by TH-cam (wouldn’t be a surprise tbh): *person gets chased by killer, family gets chopped to pieces, person becomes alcoholic, literally is about to hang themselves, goes over to killer, shoots, eats the dead body, video ends with person hanging on a noose in their bedroom* ***happy children’s music plays as the outro*** ***funny cartoon sound effects and voices throughout***
The sad thing is that the algorithm is doing EXACTLY what it was made to do, its just that these creators have managed to exploit it and use it to pump out this weird, not for kids content. TH-cam needs to do a better job at fine tuning the nuances when it comes to kids content and being a lot more strict when it comes to this kinda stuff And dare I say, sega themselves shoukd be cracking down on these videos as well, sending swarms of take down notices so they reach less people

This reminds me of the weird Sonic videos that use to show up in recommended feed many years ago, when I was younger. Thankfully I never click on them as they just look weird as hell. Some of you out there might remember those weird Sonic videos.
This type of content still being around just enforces the idea the TH-cam learned NOTHING with Elsagate and only cares about ruining the careers of Good creators who make Good content. I can definitely say that I saw worse growing up and most of that is gone by this point, but this new stuff just irks me every time I see it pop into my feed and I just get shot back to when I accidentally stumbled into these holes as a kid. I remember being very young and coming across some lets play of a porn Sonic game called Project X: Love Potion Disaster and looking back on it, I'm wondering how tf did it fly under TH-cams radar. I've seen my 4 year old brother watch Sonic exe videos and being really concerned about what could possibly be going through his mind when watching it. It's disturbing how so many kids come across depraved shit like this and parents not having a single clue about the media their children are receiving.
I think sega should do something about this. It would be significant as a statement to show other crappy channels that they play with fire but also to show youtube they need to do something about this brand new ElsaGate situation. But I doubt Sega is gonna do anything anyway although it indirectly damages their brand especially in those crucial times. And it annoys me. One of my friends little brother is like 6 or 5 years old, they REALLY love sonic like I do. But scary thing is that they might stumble across this horrible gem and get influenced by it considering that they're too easily to be influenced and watches TH-cam sonic content aton just for babies/little kids

This is why I’m never letting my kids on TH-cam till there like 10 maybe older depending on there maternity. Parents who let there toddlers have free rein on an iPad shouldn’t be parents, and if time is an issue don’t have kids, simple as that, it’s more of a cultural issue really. It sucks cause there are Sonic VRChat channels that actually make great content like Silver The Hedgehog, Speedy Blue and others and it ruins there image which sucks cause TH-cam sucks. You are right. This is a problem. This makes me more glad I had very limited exposure to the internet as a kid and tween. It wasn't because my parents were controlling to it, but I didn't have tons of interest in youtube at the time, there were other things I rather had done, and for a long period of time, we didn't have much internet. Also, you are amazing at playing Sonic Adventure 2.

I find it funny how even SEGA has to downplay Sonic at times for the sake of ✨plot✨ like in Lost World or SatSR. It’s like the character is so broken they don’t know what to do XD. Their plot is a lot less shitty though (even though some games are complete trash), at least there’s not constant plot points about death. Sure, a serious story with actual stakes would be great when executed RIGHT. I think almost all of us agree that even the meta era is better than this shit (and by shit I mean the low-budget animation “kids” channels).

A lot of this "kids content" in general is not only bad but also not good to show kids and I think Sonic "kids content" is probably one of the worst offenders. I found these about a month ago when doing keyword research over Sonic the hedgehog on TH-cam to see what sticks and what doesn't and OMG. It's terrifying because they know these very strong algorithm tactics to get on the board. And because they are low effort, they are able to upload consistently. People like this know how to manipulate the algorithm and children and it's disturbing as hell. And I would bet many of these videos consist of these tragedies to avoid being marked for kids. "Would a kids animation really have such violence or drinking?" while knowing FULLY WELL that's who their target audience is. Just look at the titles. They are SPEAKING TO KIDS.

This Sonic kids content seems much more darker than Doom Slayer murdering demons in Doom Eternal.
I know you'll probably never read this, but I think I have an explanation for this phenomenon of "tragedy-core" children's content. See, when I was a child, there weren't any real prevalent kid's channel content farms on youtube, so all I watched was essentially the good shit you'd relate to the mid 2000s youtube experience. One video, however, stuck out to me. MANY people remember it, a video with the title of "Pac Man Movie", a video where a derpy looking orange ghost is sent to die in a war against pacman, and sadness ensues. It's strange looking back at it, it was a video that always fascinated me, ever since I was atleast five years old or so. Nowadays it's tough to think who that video was made for, as our correlation of crappily animated tragic content for children is a pretty new thing, in the era of a more marketable and accessible youtube.
So, while I'd like to point fingers at these and say "ew spidelsagate" with the claim of fetishistic content (afterall, Dan Schneider exists), I believe that the people who run these successful content farms simply know that children have an odd fascination with tragedy. It's not even for a very weird reason, it's just a very distant, new feeling that they're fascinated by, just kind of exploited for profit. I say this as a grown up zoomer btw, I'm the closest you have to an explanation for this sort of thing.
That's actually pretty fascinating, I think it's overlooked that children get hooked on things they can tell they wouldn't normally see in their content. they know this is off limits but it's there. It's a very primal thrill thats just pumped into you

Especially if one of the reasons you can give for sure is false advertising; if they're truly "for kids" like they say they are, they should be on TH-cam Kids, but clearly they're not, and they're also clearly not for kids due to the topics they indulge in, so either way it's false advertising (and mentally far worse than just that, but that's the main point you can use against all of them in an algorithm as inhuman as YT's)
You would literally be better off just handing your kid a copy of any Sonic game, even Shadow the Hedgehog, and telling them to play that. Far more engaging, and doesn’t expose your kid to stuff that will fuck up their development later on in life.

We have a “family” Switch that we all play on (provided you get your school/homework done and such), but 99% of the time they’re playing the NES/SNES/N64 classics (their choice), and I’m hanging around to help when they’re stuck because I love all those games and I can’t help myself. My son now has Mario themed everything hahaha. Totally worth the 50 bucks a year imo.

Man, I've watched Roger von Deir Weidge Sonic parodies in minutos my whole life, in fact the sole reason I wanted to create a Sonic channel was because of those parodies. Now, you might think "Oh but a parody of a game, is not the same as these low level cartoons/animations" but the general public or the main TH-cam algorithm might not think the same way. It may start classifying every single Sonic animated cartoon or parody as kids content. In fact, in the 90s sonic was not aimed for kids, but for Teenagers.

I can definitely see the effect that it causes on younger kids because I have a 5 year old sibling that is absolutely attracted to this kind of stuff (albeit not as bad as the ones shown but still pretty bad) as it often includes characters that were originally made to be terrifying (siren head, sonic.exe, ect) along with just the plain characters and while I try to steer him away from it and give him a reason he still watches it (much to my dismay). it had given him reoccurring nightmares at one point and he has a warped sense of reality (especially since he watches a lot of fnf or minecraft based youtube videos). "it's that thing from minecraft/fnf!" and he is pointing to something in real life that he has seen in the games.
It's really sick that some people do this, and I hope we have another purge of these videos (but knowing trends it will eventually happen again with something else unless youtube does something about it again).

Also there is actual GOOD Sonic content on here. Like those people acting as the Sonic characters (ex being “ask the Sonic heroes” and those other channels I forget the name of) there’s also stopmotion and plush vids. Hell I’d even say stuff like Sonic Shorts and Nazo Unleashed are good for kids. Sure Sonic Shorts might have a lot of mature humor. But it’s MILES(pun not intended) better then this crap.

I remember watching Sonic Shorts when I was younger, I loved them so much
I grew up on Sonic Shorts but I don't think that was a good thing. Most of the jokes went over my head and I mostly just watched it because I liked sonic and "haha sonic do funny" but in rewatching them I realized there was a lot of racy, insensitive, and very similarly gory material to this video--it's newgrounds content after all. I think that sort of early TH-cam newgrounds content really fucked with me in ways that I'm still learning about as I get older

Content like this is something I did see as a small kid, and it's affected me rather oddly. I'm really glad more people are talking about content like this, because they're really bad for a developing child's brain. My mom didn't really look at what I watched as a kid because she was super busy, and my dad was usually working when I was younger as well, in case you're questioning my life on TH-cam as an early age. But then as I got older, around 10 and 13 my mom made me get TH-cam kids, where I saw content like this there as well

This is the explanation in my opinion. They are interesting and important topics that aren't actually unusual to see in stories for children. This reminds me of the weird Sonic videos that use to show up in recommended feed many years ago, when I was younger. Thankfully I never click on them as they just look weird as hell. Some of you out there might remember those weird Sonic videos.
I also stumbled upon those types of videos at the ripe age of 9 and can confirm that most of it was inflation/vore. So. Much. Vore.
This type of content still being around just enforces the idea the TH-cam learned NOTHING with Elsagate and only cares about ruining the careers of Good creators who make Good content. I can definitely say that I saw worse growing up and most of that is gone by this point, but this new stuff just irks me every time I see it pop into my feed and I just get shot back to when I accidentally stumbled into these holes as a kid.

I remember being very young and coming across some lets play of a porn Sonic game called Project X: Love Potion Disaster and looking back on it, I'm wondering how tf did it fly under TH-cams radar. I've seen my 4 year old brother watch Sonic exe videos and being really concerned about what could possibly be going through his mind when watching it. It's disturbing how so many kids come across depraved shit like this and parents not having a single clue about the media their children are receiving.
I think sega should do something about this. It would be significant as a statement to show other crappy channels that they play with fire but also to show youtube they need to do something about this brand new ElsaGate situation.
But I doubt Sega is gonna do anything anyway although it indirectly damages their brand especially in those crucial times. And it annoys me.

One of my friends little brother is like 6 or 5 years old, they REALLY love sonic like I do. But scary thing is that they might stumble across this horrible gem and get influenced by it considering that they're too easily to be influenced and watches TH-cam sonic content aton just for babies/little kids

This is why I’m never letting my kids on TH-cam till there like 10 maybe older depending on there maternity. You are right. This is a problem. This makes me more glad I had very limited exposure to the internet as a kid and tween. It wasn't because my parents were controlling to it, but I didn't have tons of interest in youtube at the time, there were other things I rather had done, and for a long period of time, we didn't have much internet.
