- For two years during the pandemic, the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority was unable to process numerous old, retired buses for auction - a process that could have helped the South Bay transit agency recoup tens of thousands of public dollars it spent on the vehicles. Candice Nguyen reports.

how is VTA so fucking mismanaged
Nepotism
Not their money, they don’t care
You guys are restarted
Come on, put up some walls, you can have at least 5 or 6 micro apartments on one of those buses!
All of these vehicles could be used to house the homeless.
The IRS should go after them
Ac transit got a lot of retired buses behind there Oakland Division. Just ride Bart passing through Coliseum and you will see all of them just sitting there
I was just about to comment this. It is not uncommon for retired buses to stay on the property for months to years, even before the pandemic for multiple reasons.
They spent also thousands of dollars on the fence for security that didn’t work.. all the parts are gone now
There should be an investigation…and audit
Okay, but where can we participate in these auctions 👀👀
They should keep them
The good news is, the busses are worth fuck all. Almost nothing. I am surprised they didn't just scrap the articulated busses. ( the metal is worth as much as the bus is.)
Less than a grand for each bus that goes for half a million new?!?!
absolutely only people that wont old buses are people who want to make them into an rv
Based on how long those Prius sat. They are worthless. They will be lucky if they get $1000 for each Prius.
I imagine the battery for the hybrid electric motor is worthless and would need to be replaced
@@CM8008s not only that. The motor is more than likely seized from sitting all those years.
@@silvermist9644 It depends if they were regularly starting those cars and vans or not. ( I am not optimistic they did.)
1 million miles
Let me buy a prius 😭😭😭
People need to go to jail for this… especially during the pandemic… and neglecting of the tax payer needed services
Get that USA made Gillig....best bus on the market.
I mean, they don't have many other options. ( Due to buy American requirements. ) The market is dominated by Gillig and New Flyer in the us because of that requirement.
Coming soon to parking on the street near you , as homeless shelters
Half of those busses will become fetanyl dens.
The most shocking part is knowing you can get a PhD in transportation study. WTF?!
Yeah, it involves city planning. It's a very difficult job.
Many go to work at US DOT Volpe National Transportation Systems Center (Cambridge, MA - didn't near the MIT campus).
