- A bunch of pictures recently on social media show what are said to be Russian set Booby traps with F1 and RGD-5 Grenades. I noticed a bunch of people didn't understand how they worked so I made this video to try to explain the UZRGM Fuze and its use in the traps.

Basics of granade traps. Great simple video.
The Grenade in the washing machine was meant to simply inconvenience whoever was reclaiming the house. Example something that has to be moved out of the way and disarmed .Also makes them wonder what else might be hidden and less obvious.
Could make sense. I dont see it as much of an inconvenience as it is an easy removal. I would definitely assume more traps are there.
@@Stray03 Right and in WW2 the Germans would leave behind fake easily seen traps that didn't do anything .This was meant to confuse the allies or slow there advance.
Often it was used to hide a real trap.

They also use fishing hooks on trees/shrubs, so it hooks on people/clothes .
Interesting way to keep it close to the person
One huge anti-personnel mine was a tan metal box with a curved side like a claymore the size of a cinder block (or bigger) with trailing trigger wires that threaded horizontally in on top. It had two carry handles on one side.
Yeah a MON series directional mine maybe a MON 90. I think that was not set up as a booby trap but more of an ambush mine, much like the american claymore mines are. They found the trigger, determined it safe and removed it from its bag.
Artillery shell with grenade top on where shell fuse goes would be very effective.

Where did you get that replica grenade?
There is a way how to shorten the fuse time for a second or so and that makes it way more deadlier.
Am looking for grenade fuse making but I couldn't find any thin clear

One trap I saw on Super Sus's video was where a hole was dug for the grenade, the pin straightened to make it come off easier and a wire tied to the pin loop and a bigger object placed on top of it, in this case a boot. It was placed next to a trench enterance, as the Russkies retreated. So as the next person that comes through there, they might kick the boot and boom, the nade explodes. Humans have the habit of kicking objects useless to them from their path. Another one is the classic pull the pin, place the nade under a fallen soldier or something else heavy that hides it and keeps the spoon down, and as the next person moves it, boom.
And when you see the grenade, there might always be one behind it that you don't see.

Ah yeah. They connected the string to the boot so if you pick it up or kick it out of the way it pulls out the pin. Another reason those old ww2 warnings of not touching stuff you find is important to follow.

I found it amazing how you were not going to get into the politics of it then you got into the politics of it right afterwards. I hate that war is going on in Ukraine and Russia but Russia invaded Ukraine because Putin wanted to take more territory. Putin is a communist dictator and I support us helping Ukraine to stop increasing his power by taking more land and their military into his collection. I'm glad the other countries are helping too because it all affects them and America too when Putin or any other dictator takes over another country.
I enjoyed your demonstration with the Russian grenades.
Politics would have been choosing a side and saying how bad the other side is. People are killing eachother over there and it is all so politicians can get to flex. I care about the technology the rest is for others to care about.

Not sure. The amount of smoke I've seen coming out of older ones and the fact that it is a stab primer on it makes me think the older ones were black powder. New might be a gasless delay.

Hey man, why do the m67 grenades make no audible noise when the spoon is released and the primer stuck but the F1 and rgd do? I have heard various reasons but not sure the truth.
Don't really know for sure but it probably has to do with quantity of primer compound or the idea that the Russian ones have stab primers on them. If you seal the gasses in they will be quieter. Makes me wonder if the original vented mk2 grenades made more noise than modern m67.
@@Stray03 I found a news article from the late 40s in the nyt taking about a new silent primer so I think it probably is. I have heard the sealed thing before but I just don't understand how it is completely quiet.

My mk2 that you see in my video is vented so it has a delay that isn't gasless. Probably a black powder like the British mills. The new grenades use gasless delays made of thermite like materials and do not produce as much gas so the delay can be a fully closed system. No escaping gas no hissing. As for the primer my guess is the priming compound may not be a primary or atleast not a fast one that explodes? I'd have to find the patent to know for sure.

Depends where you live, usually militaria shows, or sites/groups online.
I was under the impression that the reason a Claymore mine has the clacker is because of the "laws" of war. I.E use of a tripwire constitutes a crime that is against various conventions on war. Therefore would it follow that unmanned booby traps break similar rules of war?
The problem is when you start setting them in civilian populations. Most militaries have strict use procedures for them due to the fact that they kill both sides just as easily so if your own guys find it you are harming your own side. The russians are retreating so they don't care and will use what they can to slow down the people chasing them down. I think the claymore requiring a person in the loop to set it off may be more for protecting your own troops or civilian populations.

Many different flavors of victim-operated mines have existed alongside the M18.
There is no prohibition on unmanned "booby traps" or mine emplacements. Most landmines are unattended and are intended to be detonated by the enemy. Command firing is the exception not the rule. Regardless setting boobytraps in civillian homes to kill civillians is a war crime. It has nothing to do with how they are triggered, it has to do with who they target.
@@agoogleuser3808 The Ottawa Treaty is made to ban all AP mines that are not command detonated. But only the stupid nations are in that treaty.
Best ways ive seen it done is both with treble hooks tied to the actual grenade so it chases you lol, and then the LAW and bamboo tubes used in Nam that kept these way up high in trees. Theyd hold 3 or 4 at a time. Then the time they hit the ground and people realize whats going on theyve cooked off alot longer and cant be thrown or ran away from as easy
Yeah apparently fishing hooks are used in Ukraine. I'd have to test the law tube size out.
@Stray03 It was LAW or Bazooka tubes. I forget which tbh. May want to check both. Tbh bamboo would blend in better.
You can hide home made sticky pads too. Push a bunch of metal thumbtacks thru some cardboard. Tie that and cover it to a shirt etc. Have the long shirt sleeve tied to a nade. Then when they step on the fabric it punches thru and barely sticks in thier sole. They can't feel it. Running drags it also. Nasty stuff man lol
When I was a young man in the 70s you could go to army and navy surplus and buy books on booby traps and home made weapons and many more goodies. If I had known had bad the gov was going to get after 911 about stuff like those books I would have bought some. If any suits read this I’m a good guy. Who wonders how things work.
Yeah you can still find them but they probably get you put on a list when you order online. Seems in England it gets you a visit with a judge too.

you can download the PDFs online from a wide variety of sources as they are public release documents. If you are in the UK you can be arrested over downloading it because they don't recognize free speech anymore, so use another computer and access it from a non-home access point.
Also if you are a good guy, then you are the enemy of the authorities with the way governments around the world have been hijacked.
@@DaveSmith-cp5kj funny how they pretend that it is justice. I read a book and they can put me infront of a judge who will decide that I'm dangerous to the public peace. Just shows their failures at protecting their citizens from real threats.
@@Stray03 True. Plus even if their intent was the prevention of domestic terrorism or something like that, it's defeated when they start importing in "refugees" many of which are later found to be tied to actual terror cells plotting to kill westerners.
Or like the covid lockdowns. "Being around other people is dangerous! So if you violate the lockdown or social distancing we will send 6 bobbies to physically grab you at your flat to haul you off." So much for that distancing. And just years earlier they were claiming that beat patrols don't stop crime, so instead they would "investigate" crime by leaving a stern message/text instead. But somehow they found the money for covid arrests. Ridiculous.
In the end their real worry is not about protecting citizens, but protecting their regime from possibly being at risk of being held accountable for scheming to destroy the country.

Must have been an interesting video to watch. I dont doubt the guy. Russian equipment from the looks of it tends to be half assed. The amount of corruption makes me wonder just how many soldiers died because of badly made equipment.

I think so, unless it is used for larger explosives, I really don't know what they could be used for. They are often used on suicide vests in their no delay form as dead man switches or actual switches.
That washing machine set up almost looks fake. I don't understand why anyone who has even the slightest idea about traps would leave it like that. Odd.
@@scrappydoo7887 problem is there is a lot of propaganda on both sides. No one even knows if these were actually left by russians. Also the pictures we see are after the people there have been through. The pull the grenade out of the sleeve thing has a cut string and a pin still in the grenade which means it wouldn't work, but either it was set up and not armed, or it was disarmed by the Ukranians before the picture was taken.

As far as the propaganda goes I have never seen this much propaganda from both sides of a conflict. Only ww1 and 2 really came close, maybe the Balkans wars. It seems like a hallmark of the area.
I agree with you about staying away from the politics here. Couple picking a side with the things you cover I think might bring unwanted attention. Then obviously the situation is as clear as mud so it's impossible to get an accurate picture
