- Border Management Authority commissioner Dr Michael Masiapato says they intercepted about 200 people who were trying to illegally cross the Beitbridge border post into SA from Zimbabwe on Wednesday.

I’ve wondered about this for years. The region as a whole would be very strong if the ANC had not coddled Mugabe as long as they did. SA has its share of poor governance for sure but it is still a functioning (though too often poorly managed) democracy. Namibia and Botswana I would say are the same if not better. Imagine if the Zimbabwean government functioned at least as well as those three.
@BlackDoveNYC - It's not about Mugabe. Immigrants from Zim, Malawi and Mozambique have been trekking to South Africa since apartheid to work in mines, factories and fields. Zimbabweans even trekked to Botswana to buy bulk goods at a cheaper price in the 1980s when the Zim economy was good. They are nomadic people who can't solve their problems, power hungry and always squabbling. They even sabotage their country. Especially the Shona people, always squabbling. Ndebeles are better and more united.
but this is not the 70s and 80s, mines and factories won't be there forever - we also have unemployed youth and citizens here who have to benefit from the South African economy. Those countries need to be functional and those that use migrants for cheap labour must rather set up their operations over there and stop encouraging anarchy.
