House of the Dragon, marketed as Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon, is an upcoming American fantasy drama television series created by George R. R. Martin and Ryan J. Condal for HBO. It is a prequel to the television series Game of Thrones (2011-2019) and is based on portions of Martin's 2018 novel Fire & Blood. Set two hundred years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series chronicles the beginning of the end of House Targaryen; the events leading up to and covering the Targaryen war of succession, known as the "Dance of the Dragons."

The Targaryens ruled Westeros for 300 years. This new show is 200 years before the fall of the iron throne.. This was happens 129 years after the Targaryens take over Westeros.

@@mpalfadel2008 Grand Maester Munkun’s True Telling obviously. I hope Mushroom’s account is not true at all because that little man had some of the weirdest thoughts ever. That said, I hope we get to see Mushroom in the show. It will bring that comedic element.

This is the era when Targaryens and their Dragons are at their peak in Westeros. So many Targaryens and people with half, or partial Targaryen blood in them.

The trailer is misleading. The conflict is NOT between niece and uncle. They don’t even show the other protagonist.
@@jtacloban I read the book. I know the conflict is between The king’s second wife family and the daughter of the king w/her uncle aka boyfriend brother of the king. Lol
I just love how show onlys are confused about Daemon and Rhaenyra.
Daemon Targaryen is being played by Matt Smith, not David Tennant.
What makes or breaks the show for me will be whether it makes one branch of the family the “good” guys (ala the Starks) and the other the “bad” guys. The Dance of the Dragons was ultimately about two sh*tty sides of a sh*tty family going at it and while each had noble/heroic members fighting on their behalf both sides were committing atrocities against each other and the people of Westeros in equal measure. It was reminiscent of what I consider the best conflict of ASOIAF/GOT, the Lannisters vs Stannis Baratheon, siding with one comes down to personal preference on the lesser evil not because one was morally superior.
So to succeed the showrunners need to make both sides morally complex pieces of sh*t. They do that, and the show will be fine. If however they pick one side as the “good” guys we’re supposed to root for, they’ll be setting themselves up for a repeat of the Daenerys situation where they have to speed run a descent into villainy

Based on a real-life historical time in medieval history. 12th Century. War over succession in England, so this is suppose to be back farther in time and hence the female issue. But that’s it why the story kicks to war, just element. If you look up The Anarchy…. You clan read all about it,

David Tennant played the 10th Doctor. Matt Smith played the 11th Doctor which is the one they showed several times in the trailer. I'm disappointed in you and so I'm revoking your Nerd Badge.
You should check out RedTeamReveiw channel....has all the histories of Game of thrones with the actual actors voicing the stories. Will help if you want to know more details about it all.

Excited that Paddy Considine and Rhys Ifans are in this, but overall it seems a bit too political for my taste. I'm more looking forward to The Sandman on Aug 5th.
