Expat is an offensive word because it is an elitist word. It refers to migrants from rich countries that move to middle or low-income countries.

@@muchachopicaron It discriminates between "nice" migrants, and everybody else. Every person who decides to move abroad, is a migrant; all migrants are equal, and should be treated equal.
@@franciscoescobar3093 Wow I’ve never heard this before. Appreciate the clarification
@@franciscoescobar3093 Without wanting to sound offensive, you have been trapped by wokism where every second word is offensive, sexist, racist, etc. To me an expat is a highly skilled person who moves temporarily to another country for work reasons and quite likely earning good money. Typically a male with wife and kids back home. Obviously that person has different migratory status to a more common immigrant who comes to stay for good and possibly not highly skilled. The English language is more precise in certain aspects to differentiate cases like this. How could this be offensive? Are you offended because an expat makes more money?
@@muchachopicaron Thanks for saying I am right. The Oxford dictionary defines migrant as: “a person who moves from one place to another, especially in order to find WORK or better living conditions.” The Cambridge dictionary defines migrant as: “a person that travels to a different country or place, often in order to find WORK.”
And to bring even more light to your ignorance, when a “highly skilled person who moves temporarily to another country for work reasons”, if the person moves from a “developing” country to a “developed” country, they usually make much less money than the equally skilled locals. The word “expat” is never used to describe highly skilled people that move from “developing” countries, to “developed” countries.
