Mr Drysdale I hope you read this. Difficult to tell you how much I admire you, for your career, for your impressive comebacks, your style and for being the one who lets the boat run and run, even in the most frantic of finishes. Heck, even your news articles in the NZ press are good! All the best for the next two years, from Italy.
Easy to gain ground quickly when your opponent shuts down. Not saying it was not impressive. But I think it is more a testament to how hard Borch pushed (had to push) to hold Drysdale off that Borch eventually just had nothing left to even keep a steady state pace at the end. Drysdale just refused to shut it down and give up the whole way.
@@stoolpigeon4285 longevity is my main comparison, their toughness, grit and performance in their respective sports are personal traits regardless of team. And not all of Tom Brady's success is due to a team around him. Why are you arguing semantics?
Great racing, but disappointing that we + commentators were completely unaware of the competition until the final camera angle. Would have been much more exciting to view if there was more side-on shots that would let us watch Mahe's move and realise that the race was on.
Hats' off to you 'Kiwi' amazing burst of power to win by at least 2 boat length. K Borch my hat off to you too, with that decent challenge thrown down to Maehe accordingly - cheers travel safely & well YOU TWO.
Very impressive by Drysdale. To be fair, the Norwegian team made a last minute decision to go to Henley but in the case of Drysdale he specifically trains for this race. I think Kjetil would have beaten him in the World Rowing Championship race he won.
It's called bonking or hitting the wall. If you misjudge the pace in an endurance event, your body can just run out of steam - especially if you are a big man like Borch. He wasn't used the course and went off too fast - Mahe knows the course, held his nerve and gambled that Borch would blow up.

to be fair, totally irrelevant
Magnífico!
Did the other guy catch a crab? He really got passed at the end
Mike Hanlonl no he just blew up. Race is 2112 not 2000
How do they need to row?? I learnt about this sport from a movie.
I'm shocked!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What just happened!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What???? The Norwegian guy...!!!!!!! What??????????????????????????

How long is this race
2112
Dang! :-D
Historically bad camera direction, close studies that should have been executed half way mess up the tight catch-up race. So unprofessional.
Don't play games with Drysdale.
Borch may have been out of top form, and not only did borch go out too quickly, he sprinted too early at the end. Over, with the beast tracking you.
