  • Wow, what a crazy whiplash of emotions today as Colin Chandler announces that he is following Pope to Kentucky then BYU hires Kevin Young from the NBA ranks. Still a lot of questions to answer in terms of coaching staff, retaining players, and recruiting. But this is definitely good news.

Do you think Kevin Young will be able to retain the current BYU players as well as the guys in the portal?

A 7 year contract suggests he wants to be here for at least a little while.

Kids who are serious about getting a shot at he NBA will come to Provo and play for Coach Young. What a resume!

I think most elite LDS athletes will be inclined to choose BYU, but let's be honest - most elite non-LDS athletes aren't coming to BYU no matter what because of the Honor Code. Not saying that's a bad thing, just a reality of BYU recruiting.

True, but we've shown we can get quality non-LDS players in the past, and I expect (or at least hope) that to continue, if not improve some.

I don't know. I think he has a better than 50/50 shot at it.

Hopefully they get excited by all the buzz he's getting.

He will be back in NBA in 3 years. His dream is being an NBA coach. He didn’t want that dumpster fire Nets job.

Even if so, you bring in the best guy for the job. But also, I've been seeing that he wants a job that will allow him to be home more with his young kids. So, I think he want to be around for at least a little while.

@@saturdayswarriorbyu Exactly, like the Utah Jazz. That could be the reason Ainge and the Jazz owner are paying for him to go to BYU.
