On Kostenburger's commentary: I read this, having been given it by family members about three years ago, and I really enjoyed it. It is relatively straightforward, yes quotes Carson many times (as well as other major evangelical commentators), and, I would have thought, very useful to preachers. How one can write a new commentary (especially maybe on John) without depending unconsciously on others I cannot imagine. Anyway, whatever one thinks about that it is a great read.

I don’t think kostenburger is writing the Baker volume anymore. He’s an editor for the EEC now and is writing the John volume for that series.
As always, keep up the good work!

I am a "layperson." Questions: 1. Please define "exegetical" commentary and contrast with other types of commentaries. I know you have before but I need remedial instruction! 2. If you were to recommend a "starting" gospel for a new believer, which of the four gospels would you suggest they read first? 3. I appreciated your comments about the author of the JOHN commentary. It was very kind. However, I think the issue is much more prevalent than Christians realize. I bought an "introductory" commentary that contained no Bibliography, no recommended readings, and no footnotes. It was written by a pastor for his church based on sermons. But it was published for a larger audience by a "small" publishing company. I discarded it without reading it. As a journalism minor, I am very sensitive to issues of plagerism (which I trust Christ would label "stealing.") Your comments were much more kindhearted than mine here. Thanks for the channel.

Peter T. O’Brien needs to be afforded the same opportunity to perhaps correct his commentaries as has been given to Kostenberger.

Could you speak on what are the most well reviewed commentaries in the Geneva Bible commentary series?

I will consider a video on this in the future. Right now, I can say that Calvin's volumes likely have the most readership. Outside of his, Daniel by Young and Romans by Hodge are considered classics.
