    Hi Mark
I am with you on this one…………I think the answer is every time you return from fishing look at what you took but didn’t use take it out and leave it behind. Or I have river gear, pole gear, feeder the list goes on but I try to to just load what I need. To be honest got to many bags and boxes to start with and far to much tackle full stop. I could go on but it’s just a nightmare……I think we are fortunate to have a choice of a lifetimes collection.😊

    Hi Mark,
In 1995 I had finished match fishing some years earlier due to work commitments. I decided to concentrate on fishing bread punch on still waters and canals around the North West. I fined down my tackle to a Beta box (I think or could have been a small box made locally). One Silstar wand 9ft and a 12ft soft action (made by Silstar but un liveried, bright orange, short handle and lined rings called a 12ft carbon match a absolutely lovely rod for punch fishing). Two reels a closed face and a old Mitchel were in the box plus a 14inch landing net shot, hooks disgorges etc and home made waggles a couple of feeders a cushion home made bread box and punches. Rods landing net handle two bank sticks and rod rest heads were in an old fashioned cheap hold-all, no tubes. All this gear was ultralight the only addition being bread for the punch, liquidised bread and multi punched bread pellets. It was so light that I could and did walk many miles along canals and on most occasions walked quite long distances to and around stillwaters. I only fished bread when I went alone, other baits when fishing with mates. I did this for about 5 years but all good things must end especially when someone nicks your gear. I am now in the middle of splitting my gear into river gear and canal and still water gear. Luckily over the years I’ve collected more than enough stuff.

Phil, that's not massively different to how my gear is now sorted. I will make changes according to whethjer I'll nbe legering/floatfishing/pole fishing, and ditto with camera gear. It's a fairly light setup.

Been really enjoying your channel Mark. I’ve just bought myself a new Daiwa fixed spool reel to have a go at some trotting. I’ve only done it once in the river Calder in Lancashire, very excited to have another go.

Good luck with the trotting, plenty of videos on my channel that feature trotting. I started trotting when I was 11 and the basics aren't difficult to master. Keep the float going in a straight line with the bait near the bottom and feed every cast is a good starting point.

I am in the same boat , I love to stand but after four or five hours it's a bit uncomfortable. This winter I have lived In breathable waders. I recently bought an Octbox basic . It's light enough to carry long distances and gives the advantages of a proper box . That a made up trotting rod and a few bits and pieces in pockets with a bait bucket sees me fishing a number of swims easily . Keep up the videos 👍

I first had problems right at the start of this season. It's almost the end of the same season and I've managed with my Shakespeare Beta box fairly well. Because I'm carrying video gear that can amount to a double set of camcorder, microphone and tripod I have dug out my Boss trollet for some of the walks which has made life easier. My feet are getting a bit better, partly thanks to better walking shoes and I've had to replace my Muckboots with a new pair.

I can only trott for around 3 hours before either my back or concentration go's. Take minimal gear, which includes just a float rod. If there's little flow on the river, I charge my spool, float line to feeder line, with in the capacity of the rod use a light home made bobbin made from a hair clip peter stone style, in his book big chubb sit down rod on rests and link ledger with one or two SSG. That takes me to my usual 4/5 hour session. Once or twice, if I feel rested I go back on the float.

Most of my sessions are only three hours, sometimes less, occasionally more.

Hi Mark, we are of a similar age and I had the same experience some 10 years ago. Was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Now all sorted. Maybe get your blood glucose checked? Cheers

Do you remember when you were writing your book in the latest 70s android took some pics of me fishing a pole on meadow lake Somerley.
I fully understand re the old feet.
I'm sure you will still produce quality videos even if your bum is on a sear 😂

The quality of wellie boots has crashed in recent years and there's a vast difference between those of today and those made 20/30/40 years ago in terms of comfort and durability.

Get shot of your wellies and get some decent walking shoes/boots. Something not to expensive, like Peter Storm and a lightweight backpack and lightweight fishing seat. That tackle box is weighing you down and so uncomfortable to carry. Tackle and luggage has moved on for the like of me and you. 👍
