But pretty much all the oats raised in the US are sprayed with glyphosate and contain high levels of residue.

I love over-night oats. There are tons of different ingredients to swap out. Oats, milk, sweeteners, yogurt, fruit, chia seeds, ground flax, nuts, seeds, lemon/lime juice, the list is endless. Made the night before you go to bed and the next morning it is ready when you want to eat.

Came here to say refrigerator overnight oats for quick and easy breakfast. Make the oat milk. Start with regular oats, add oat milk, blackberries, sweetener, 1 dry packet lime (Tru lemon or Tru lime), pure mint extract for a mojito and stir and sit overnight in fridge. Stir and eat in morning. Other recipes w/ strawberries and mini milk chocolate chips. Blueberries etc.

I do not eat oats anymore because I have been on a low carbohydrate diet for about 2 years now to keep off excess weight. But I do have whole grain wheat, rolled oats, white rice, dry plain pasta, dry potato flakes, dried legumes and white cane sugar in my long-term food storage because these foods can provide a lot of calorie-dense nutrition at modest cost. Also have dried vegetables and dried fruit. My assumption is if I need to use my long-term food storage during hard times, I will be rationing that food and strictly limiting the calories in each carefully measured meal so it will not matter if there are a lot of carbohydrates. And I will probably be doing a lot of physical activity and burning a lot of calories just to survive if the power grid is down.
I also have freeze-dried versions of eggs, beef, pork, poultry, seafood, cheese, butter and milk in my food storage so I can still get some animal protein. I also store olive oil and coconut oil to add fat to that carefully rationed, subsistence diet.

My favorite ways to eat oats is overnight oats, equal parts by volume of oats and milk, put in the fridge overnight. Bonus points if you add some frozen fruit to the mix before you stick it in the freezer. Overnight oats are great cold, or stick it in the microwave for a minute or two if you want hot oatmeal. Second favorite is oatmeal cookies with raisins or chocolate chips (let the dough sit in the fridge overnight to fully hydrate the oats and you will end up with amazingly chewy cookies with a bit of crispiness.
I also really love a dessert called "flapjack". It's an English treat that is sort of like a chewy granola bar but SO much tastier. It's made with golden syrup, which can be difficult to find in the United States.

I adore baked oats. A cup of oats to a well-mashed banana and 2 tbsp applesauce. Season to taste ( I like a couple tbsp of sweetener, some cinnamon, occasionally nutmeg) and bake 25-35 min at 350°F. Form into dollops, or double the recipe and bake in a square cake pan to make bar cookies.
I also love oatmeal. Sweet with fruit or with winter squash, or savory with spinach and miso paste. Soooooo good. 😛
I do use oats as secondary ingredients quite frequently. I found a whole wheat soda bread recipe from David Lebovitz that's fantastic. Pampered Chef has a multigrain bread recipe I really like that uses oats. I've made oat milk, and oat flour pancakes.
They're not my number one grain, rice takes that slot for me, but if I could only pick one I might change my mind.

I love oats, so I can see the reasons for having oats. I love a homemade oat smoothie, or just simple breakfast oats.
I have a small solar setup and that can easily run my smoothie maker, as well as a small stove top camping stove.
I was going to say pasta for my choice, but I must admit I'm not as sure as I was before this video. 😊

I love pasta too, even with just a little salt and pepper. But oatmeal would be my second choice - with cinnamon and sugar. Does anyone know the expected shelf life of plain rolled oats? I’m sealing rolled oats in Mylar bags with oxygen absorbers for long term storage.

I eat oats just about every morning. But tonight I’m low on fresh food and didn’t feel like cooking so I’m having a bowl of rolled oats while I watch this video, lol.
In the summer, I eat rolled oats just like a cold cereal- pour into a bowl, add chia seeds, fresh or dried fruit and soy milk. I don’t mind eating it right away. Some people might prefer to let it soak for a little while.

Variety is still king. I have been with little food and it's hard to get food down when you get sick of it. Oats are a great survival food. I have eaten them and got tired of them quickly. I have done the same with peanut butter. I still can't eat it to this day. If I had to choose one ... Raman. It's not good for you, but I could live off of it. I eat it very often and still not sick of it. kek. I guess my real choice would be freeze dried eggs ... the almost perfect food.

I have eaten oats for 30 years almost daily, I make them with milk, an egg, cinnamon, pumpkins seeds and walnuts. Top it off with homemade yogurt and some fruit and it is a really filling breakfast packed with nutrition. Also apple crisp, rhubarb crunch and of course cookies, I just got an old recipe for an oatmeal cake but have not made it, it was brought to a picnic and was delicious.

I like protein bites. Take quick rolled oats, add chocolate protein powder, peanut butter, honey. Optional mini chocolate chips and shredded coconut. Mix well. Then roll into small bite size balls. They store well and hold up well if left in a hot car on a summer day. Healthy and tasty.

❤ You two are the BEST!
I just ate a bowl of raw oats (with only water & a dash of Redmond salt) for breakfast. So boring but quick, nutritious, & filling.
I bought a gallon of black strap molasses (in long-term storage) so I can make brown sugar in a grid down.
I also invested in a 5 gallon bucket of honey and a giant pail of Redmond salt (Amazon).
I don't want to eat raw wheat berries ha ha - but raw oats are ok and make me feel a tad biblical. 😊
FYI - my two small dogs licked the raw oats bowl of "milk." It's good to know they'll eat oats if/when I run out of their normal food!

Since Bob's Red Mill sells oatmeal in large bulk bags, I went down to their head location figuring they would have the best price on their own product. For whatever reason the local restaurant supply chain had better prices than the actual Red Mill, which was kind of funny. Perhaps it had something to do with that location is considered a "tourist attraction."
