I went on a dis year cruise that my mom took me on to celebrate me losing 85 pounds on my weight loss journey and I ran the 5k all the way through. I used to not be able to even run half a mile without walking and I didn’t walk. After I ran the 5k I actually got really into running, now I’m doing half marathons and training for them. I’m hoping to be able to run a full marathon but the further I have gone is 17 miles.
YAY!!! Congratulations to You! Congratulations to You! Congratulations Dear El Lapiz! Congratulations to Youuuuu! [Sung to the tune of Happy Birthday] Great job! So proud of you! :-)
My tip would be to NOT buy the bottled water they sell as you get off the ship. They have soda machines, including water if you prefer it as an option, near the beach. And it’s all FREE.
Bring a water bottle on board and refill it with water. Heck, you could even soda and bring a little dish soap with you and wash it in your stateroom. I've done that with both of my sons when they had sippy cups.
The post office only takes cash which is worth mentioning. Most other things you can use credit card/key to the world card but the post office is cash only
Fun fact! If you do go snorkelling you’ll find an old ride vehicle Nautilus from the old 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea ride under the water! They did a few things to it to encourage plants and life to inhabit it
When I was little we went on a Disney Cruise and my mom buried a treasure chest on the beach and drew a little map for us while we were out swimming. Imagine how excited me brother and I were to dig up real buried treasure! To this day I don't know if that was my mom's idea or it was arranged by Disney. On a less fun note, it started to rain and we were all running back to the ship when I tripped and dropped the chest and my pirate treasure spilled all over the ground! Still a wonderful memory!
I would definitely recommend snorkeling on castaway cay! I’ve been on 3 disney cruises and going on another in 2 weeks. On the last cruise we went snorkeling on castaway cay and it was amazing! We saw some amazing wild life including sea turtles, stingrays, and some very colorful fish. There are also little statues in the water that are kind of like a scavenger hunt to find all of them. It’s definitely worth it!!
There also a post office on Castaway Cat where you can mail postcards. It's close to where you disembark the ship. But, it's not open every day, so you should check & maybe buy your stamps on board so you can just drop the cards in the mail box on shore. But, it's a fun souvenir for yourself, or a nice card for family & friends from Castaway Cay.
Another pro tip for my pin collectors here! This is literally the only place you can get Castway Cay pins! Even on the ship you won’t find any, so definitely budget for those if you are a huge collector!
The "conch'd out bar" had really good drinks. The water slides were fun. Bike rental was not limited to one hour; however one hour is about as much as you would probably take. 5k was fun; do it. Food was picnic fare, but was tasty. Just right for the beach atmosphere. You may bring your own personal snorkel equipment(e.g. prescription lenses); you do not have to rent. If you do this, they will lend you free of charge a snorkel vest to wear (required).
My tip for 12 and under kids: on castaway, ask one or two kids to help you make a pool in the sand by the water. Help them find tools (cups, bowls, actual sand toys, etc). Whil they start, find MORE kids, they don’t all have to be your age. Once you have an army of kids building a pool with you, it’s really fun. Used to do it every cruise when I was little.
My sister and I did the jet skis excursion and it was awesome! We got to ride pretty close to the cruise ship and went all the way to an isolated island to wade around in crystal clear water.
Also, there is a small post office on the island that will mail postcards for you with a Castaway Cay post mark. Be advised if you don't have stamps they are CASH ONLY.. and its hours are limited...
gregory powers Or, if you just want to send something with the Castaway Cay postmark, you can give it to Guest Services, and they’ll mail it off for you using the post mark (and charge the stamp price to your room)
You should state why a family or group would want to rent a cabana. Personally we have never felt the need to spend the extra money whether in our large family or going just as a couple
The cabanas come with a fully stocked mini fridge, a personal server, and one hour bike rentals, so you're not just paying for a cabana, it's really good if you have a large group
During my last cruise, my server told my family to go to Cookies Too because it was less crowded. Shout-out to Izabel because she was SO right! She was such a nice server and always complimented my sister. Our assistant server, Ronald, reminded me of my cousin and he did all these close-up magic tricks which always made our day. The head server, Ivo, was nice, but he gave off this "forced" type vibe.
Me and my family get cups of the soft serve on Castaway Cay, as well of two of the large freshly made chocolate chip cookies, and make ice cream sandwiches. It is delicious and a tradition for us on disney cruises.
I just got back 2 weeks ago me and my best friend went to serenity bay it was like paradise. The first cruise I went to the family beach with my niece and dad and it was nice also.
Even though you don't need bottled water, I'd bring it. Even though it's a pain, we brought some on board, then brought several bottles to Castaway Cay. It's difficult to carry a paper cup of water around in your backpack and it's a bit of a walk from the beach to the drink stations. You can refill the bottles at the drink stations, though.
My wife and I did the boat snorkeling trip, and it was a lot of fun! We went on a reef, maybe a mile out, and saw lots of fish. The crew had rum, and soft drinks for us at a sandbar . . . Alas, our package included lunch on the island, and it was REALLY bad. The burgers (HOW do you screw up burgers?) The hotdogs were ok . . . And yes, definitely buy your Castaway Cay t-shirt on the island, because you won't find it anywhere else!
The number one thing one should do that the video doesn’t tell you is claim your spot first if you don’t have an overpriced cabana! Seats are first come, first serve!
We visited Castaway Cay back in 2004 when we went on my Son's Disney Cruise Make A Wish and we had an absolute blast! 💗 Daisy and Donald greeted us upon arrival. Daisy was so cute and prissy lol the kids really enjoyed it! Oh and I fell in love with the island's signature drink (the Konk Kooler 🍹😍) and was so excited when I FINALLY found a recipe online for it. Great info on the island, the cruise, and what to expect. It was truly an experience my family and I will never forget. 💗
On my second Disney cruise I did the 5K with one of my family friends and our dad’s, there was a water stand and when ever we poured water on ourselfs it evaporated. IT WAS THAT HOT.
Great video. 2 things I noted: 1. You were sore from riding 1.5 miles on a bike? 2. You said to bring cash, but everything I've previously read said that you shouldn't bring cash because everything just gets charged to your stateroom. Is that not the case?
Tell us about what its like to be working onboard a Disney Cruise Ship. I'm Considering to be a chef onboard any one of those ships. Disney's newest cruise ship, Disney Wish, coming 2022, may eventually start hiring new crew members. Joe
Great job, AJ! I mailed some postcards from Castaway Cay, thought that was fun thing to do. I also thought it was quite a distance to have to walk from the ship to the tram that takes you to Serenity Bay, but maybe that's just me - and it was REALLY hot and humid!
Sorcerer Heidi If you don’t want to walk as far next time, take the tram from the dock all the way to the last stop. There, you can transfer to the Serenity Bay tram, and reduce your time walking
Thanx for the hint, since I'm even more mobility challenged than I was during the only 1 DCL cruise I took, back in '09 I believe it was. Maybe the tram right by the dock was not available back then? I just know it was hot and humid that day, sun beating fiercely down, and my mobility issues had just started, and we walked pretty darned far - I was NOT a happy camper! LOL. Of course - despite that, I still enjoyed the heck out of Castaway Cay, despite not being a "beach person" - just such a beautiful, relaxing place. And of course, the CM's were all awesome!
Chances of getting a cabana are slim to none if you aren't sailing in a concierge room or if you are anything under platinum level. More than just the Bahamas cruises visit Castaway Cay (yes it is pronounced Key) the Caribbean cruises visit as well. Not all kids can run the 5k. 10 & up (I believe, could be 9) get the bib to participate. Although they may be allowed to run unofficially
She said “bring some cash.” I didn’t think cash was taken anywhere on the ship including Castaway Cay. I could be wrong. And most Caribbean cruises stop there as well. It’s usually the last day, a bitter sweet day.
in 5 more days im going to be on the Disney cruise thanks for the inforrnmation im 10 years old and I can tell my parents about what you told me thanks! :D
I think that she mentioned cash because there are a couple of Bahamian crafters on the Island that are not part of the cruise line and they do take cash.
Sadly when I went last month I only got to spend 2-3 hours before we got rained out. I wasn't able to ride the bike and use the snorkel gear I rented. All excursions were cancelled that day. I did enjoy the time I spent on the island.
I agree with most of the stuff mentioned, though I wouldn’t really recommend getting a cabana. Kind of redundant in my opinion. Caribbean cruises also stop at Castaway Cay, not just Bahamian ones. Characters, and where they’ll be, are listed in the Personal Navigator and on the DCL app, so no need to ask the Cast Members, and you’ll be able to plan out more in advance. There’s also a post office where you can send mail with a special Castaway Cay stamp on it, and if you decide to go snorkeling, be on the look out for some familiar faces under the water. Other than that, great video, and I can’t wait for more! (And AJ, it’s ice cream, not froyo)
The soft serve on Castaway Cay and on the ship is NOT "froyo" aka frozen yogurt. The bikes are also not "rickety". If you had one that was, you should've returned it because there was something wrong with it.
ian richardson The bag at 9:35 is what they give you if you purchase one of their water bottle packages to help you carry the water. The bags are not free. The man you saw grabbing an empty one was a Cast Member from the beverage service team, probably filling it with water bottles
The bag costs 19.99, not positive if the price is fixed or not, with six water bottles. and the bag can hold up to 12 water bottles, probably more, kind of insulated and seems like it’s worth the price since the island offers 6 bottles for the price of $10. I do not have one just notice it in a video that was recently posted at the time of this comment.
Ana Each stop at a port of call is anywhere from 7-13 hours, depending on weather, time of year, and other conditions. At Castaway Cay, the ship usually arrives around 7-8 am, and leaves around 4:30-5:30 pm
Denise Melikian You can only charge things to your cabin using your Key to the World card. Cash and credit cards are not accepted as payment on the island
34 dollars for a snorkeling set? 12 dollars for a tube? 15 per hour for a bike? Disney is seriously ripping people off here. Those prices are completely insane.
Robert Taylor And not just form there either. If you leave from New York or Galveston (depending on the itinerary) you also stop there. Check where the ship stops before you book to make sure you’re going to places that you want to go see, especially Castaway Cay
We went last fall on the Disney Dream and I didn't get a chance to go to the adult beach. I had to watch my son and young cousin who both have autism but I'm for sure going to the adult beach next time. Planning to go back in 2021 when the pandemic hopefully is over.
15$ an hr to rent a bike!!!??? Outrageous!! Disney no longer for working families. Even Disneyland or disney world has priced themselves out of reach for the majority.
can you go more indepth with all your subjects you talk about and can you make a video about transportation to and from all resorts and the internal transportation routes
I didn't see any tow behind trailers, but there may be! Definitely something to call Disney Cruise Line and ask about beforehand. Scuttle's Cove is the "kids club" on the island, but it's only ages 3-12 :-(
For young children, there is “Its a Small World Nursery” which you must reserve and pay for in advanced. There aren’t any tow behind bikes on the island, so sorry about that. Other than that, hope you and your family enjoy your vacation!
Question: You stay at Castaway Cay from around 7-5p.m. - just one day, right? So why, at 8:04 is there a screenshot stating that bike rentals are "2-Day"? Just wondering.
It’s not worth bringing cash to castaway day, you can if you want but everything can be purchased with the key card. Also I think you don’t need an I’d to get back on the boat at castaway because it’s a private island, but I’m not 100% sure. It’s something you can find out when you go on the cruise It was cool when they had the Flying Dutchman from pirates of the Caribbean. Too bad they had to remove it.
I agree with David. Cash isn’t accepted as all purchases are made with your Key to the World Card. And ID is required to get on the ship, no matter what port of call
BWI Aviation . 4 of us were on the Disney Fantasy in May, And was told to bring an ID, drivers license, to get back on the ship from each port, And Castaway Key. We never was asked to show it when getting back onboard....
Hey y’all! I was wondering if you’d do the Cinderella’s Castle restaurant version of the Be Our Guest video? I want to go but don’t know which meal is best!
Elijah Figueroa I believe the 5K is free. Check with Guest Services when you get on the ship to know where to meet up and register for the race. Cash is not accepted on Castaway Cay. You use your Key to the World card to make any purchases, as you would on the ship
How many different cruises are there and what are the prices? Which is cheapest? What are the prices for ticket and room ? The food price is included in the tickets ?
My experience there was hilarious, I went into the water and when my mother said no to a women showing us something she did it anyway. She showed us a jelly fish and I freaked out, but I kept going. Then I saw one like 2 feet away from me. I screamed and ran so fast it was so funny. I begged to go back in the ship so we did. Then we got to play mini golf.
Please don’t suggest that the 5K is a good activity for families. There is a minimum age of 10 years old, and it’s not an appropriate activity for younger kids.
Cabanas aren’t worth it. Your coming on an exclusive island to waste $500 that can be used for snorkeling , food , exclusive Disney mercy etc. yeah no way my bday is on sept 23rd and my mom own is on sept 21 so we gonna go on a cruise to celebrate
I went on a dis year cruise that my mom took me on to celebrate me losing 85 pounds on my weight loss journey and I ran the 5k all the way through. They also give away free water on the ship so grab some before you get off the ship.
I just wanted the cute cooler bag 😭

Heck, you could even soda and bring a little dish soap with you and wash it in your stateroom. I've done that with both of my sons when they had sippy cups.

Yeah, Cabanas aren’t worth it, especially since there’s more than enough beach chairs for everyone
I'll just castaway it
And yet people pay that. They've been sold out on my two cruises through Castaway Cay.
It makes no sense, have a cabana only for a few hours? I mean I can understand for a few days but...only a day? No thanks

Why is it pronounced Key when it's spelled like Cay?
It can be pronounced either way, but I've always heard it pronounced "Key" when it comes to Castaway.
It’s because Cay is the Bahamian spelling of Key. Disney named it that way to be more authentic to its surroundings
It can also be spelt quay just to make it even more confusing
Well that’s a different definition. With the way you spelled it, it means something like a dock or port, while key or Cay means a small island
@@JoshDoesTravel A cay or key, is actually an island without a natural source of water, it can be any size

ian richardson The bag at 9:35 is what they give you if you purchase one of their water bottle packages to help you carry the water.
Another great video AJ! I have a Disney trip coming up soon and I watch your videos everyday and they make me so excited!!
Great! Thanks, Mary!
Great video! How many hrs do they stop on each island? Seems like there’s a lot to do
Ana Each stop at a port of call is anywhere from 7-13 hours, depending on weather, time of year, and other conditions. At Castaway Cay, the ship usually arrives around 7-8 am, and leaves around 4:30-5:30 pm
Great video! To purchase things, do we have to bring cash/credit, or can we charge to our cabin? Thanks!
Denise Melikian You can only charge things to your cabin using your Key to the World card. Cash and credit cards are not accepted as payment on the island
The only thing on the island that's cash only (as far as I'm aware) is the post office
1st week of April!
This didn’t age well😭
The stingray adventure is amazing and surprisingly not expensive. You get to snorkel afterwards as long as you want. We really enjoyed it!
34 dollars for a snorkeling set? 12 dollars for a tube? 15 per hour for a bike? Disney is seriously ripping people off here. Those prices are completely insane.
You actually tend to dock at Castaway Cay on both the Bahama and Caribbean cruises, both out of Port Canaveral and out of Miami
Robert Taylor And not just form there either. If you leave from New York or Galveston (depending on the itinerary) you also stop there. Check where the ship stops before you book to make sure you’re going to places that you want to go see, especially Castaway Cay
I can't wait to go there and do the 5K and yes, shopping!
We went last fall on the Disney Dream and I didn't get a chance to go to the adult beach. I had to watch my son and young cousin who both have autism but I'm for sure going to the adult beach next time. Planning to go back in 2021 when the pandemic hopefully is over.
They had all new bikes when we went in October!
I think you should make a video of all of the places in Disney World to meet Mickey Mouse and pros and cons of each spot! :)
15$ an hr to rent a bike!!!??? Outrageous!! Disney no longer for working families. Even Disneyland or disney world has priced themselves out of reach for the majority.
12 euro an hour in Dublin..
600firefly1 this should be part of the cruise experience, this is Disney’s own island.
@@johnp139 And Ireland is my island 😁 🇮🇪
It wasn't ever for the average family lol
It’s actually just $15 now. We got them when we went and the $15 was for all day.
can you go more indepth with all your subjects you talk about and can you make a video about transportation to and from all resorts and the internal transportation routes
I went snorkeling on castaway cay we went out for 30 minutes but by the end my lips were dead from the salt in the water
Thanks I will be there in November
Have you guys done the 5 day Bermuda trip? Was hoping for a video before going on the Halloween cruise this October.
Where do you find the map for Castaway Cay on your phone?
Our son will be 2 when we go. Is there any options for kids that young. When renting a bike do they have like a tow behind or something
Other than that, hope you and your family enjoy your vacation!
cabanas are not open to the public. concierge books all of the cabana even before platinum
Platinum and concierge booking opens at the same time
I was at the Cast Away 10 Times Love it , Now price are to High
Question: You stay at Castaway Cay from around 7-5p.m. - just one day, right? So why, at 8:04 is there a screenshot stating that bike rentals are "2-Day"? Just wondering.
Some itineraries stop at castaway cay twice. First and last stop.
Didn't know about the 5K....that is a cool option.
This place looks awesome! 😎
That looks a lot like softserve as opposed to frogurt
Another great video AJ! Makes us want to drive up to Cape Canaveral jump on a Disney Cruise Ship, as Castaway Cay look A-Mazing! One day!
If it’s too expensive go on Carnival. You get what you pay for
It’s not worth bringing cash to castaway day, you can if you want but everything can be purchased with the key card. Also I think you don’t need an I’d to get back on the boat at castaway because it’s a private island, but I’m not 100% sure. It’s something you can find out when you go on the cruise
It was cool when they had the Flying Dutchman from pirates of the Caribbean. Too bad they had to remove it.
Spencer D definitely need your ID Card getting off and back on. Bring cash to tip any excursions only.
Spencer D The Flying Dutchman was blown apart by a hurricane and had to remove it.
Do we need i.d for kids? As only one would be their passports
Can we bring our own floats? Blow them up once we are there.
This is right on time!!
I went on the Dream cruise! LOVED IT!! Only thing I didn’t like in Nasal the lady sold me a broken bracelet😂😬
Nassau
Hey y’all! I was wondering if you’d do the Cinderella’s Castle restaurant version of the Be Our Guest video? I want to go but don’t know which meal is best!
cabanas are always sold out unless you’re concierge
Is the 5K Free? Do they only accept cash at Castaway Cay?
Elijah Figueroa I believe the 5K is free. Check with Guest Services when you get on the ship to know where to meet up and register for the race. Cash is not accepted on Castaway Cay. You use your Key to the World card to make any purchases, as you would on the ship
How many different cruises are there and what are the prices?
Which is cheapest?
What are the prices for ticket and room ?
The food price is included in the tickets ?
Yes they have 3 free sit down meals, also free room service, only thing cost is souvenirs alcohol beverages and canned sodas...
Plus when you get to castaway cay they have a free buffets called cookies BBQ
My experience there was hilarious, I went into the water and when my mother said no to a women showing us something she did it anyway. She showed us a jelly fish and I freaked out, but I kept going. Then I saw one like 2 feet away from me. I screamed and ran so fast it was so funny. I begged to go back in the ship so we did. Then we got to play mini golf.
Please don’t suggest that the 5K is a good activity for families. There is a minimum age of 10 years old, and it’s not an appropriate activity for younger kids.
Was waiting for this video
Glad ya did this one
I went on a Disney cruise and we couldn’t make it to castaway cay 😭
Happens sometimes if the weather is bad they can't dock. I'd be gutted to miss it
Cabanas aren’t worth it. Your coming on an exclusive island to waste $500 that can be used for snorkeling , food , exclusive Disney mercy etc. yeah no way my bday is on sept 23rd and my mom own is on sept 21 so we gonna go on a cruise to celebrate
I will never be able to see this island the same again now I know its actual history
What do you mean? What happened?
Thank you
Thank you for the great information and tips =)
You're welcome!
What are the prices of inside state room .
