I feel like this is how you know you really love a house. The way you're restoring everything and taking so much care to bring it back to its original beauty warms my heart. Sanding the sandstone was a true labor of love, honestly. And it looks truly stunning afterward.
I absolutely love this project. I hope you get some good revenue from YT to help support this beautiful restoration. Please have a themed feast to celebrate when you are done!
A little tip for you guys when filling those cracks is to rake the crack out into V shape, dust off and slightly dampen with water but don't saturate. This will give the bathstone mix (and any filler you use going forward) a better chance to adhere and stay in there. When the mix picks up, just give it a light brush with a semi soft bristle and smooth with a wet scraper or pointing iron if necessary. I've repaired literally hundreds of bay windows, sills and headers over the years where this hasn't been done and the repair has failed. Great work guys 👍
You're making good progress! At first I thought you had bought a house in Belgravia, the London neigbourhood, and didn't understand how there could be a run down house in that area. Wales makes more sense now.
Joining the chorus of mad approval for your tenacity and dedication to doing the right thing by this beautiful old building! I'm quite engaged in watching how painstakingly you make your decisions and do the work. Well done!
Your folks are doing a fantastic job in such a short time. I hate it when people are foolish enough to use cement when a fine lime mortar is needed so that the stone can breathe. What a beautiful home you have.
I was also thinking how lovely Louis was teaching Milly how to do the filler, he was so encouraging the first time that it didn't matter if it wasn't perfect, just what you need when your learning a new skill!
I recently had my roof cleaned and a antifungal substance was sprayed on the roof after cleaning. It is a foaming thing that is easily seen where applied and you just leave it on (no need to wash off)and it works to kill algae for many years. The other thing I have tried in the past around a swimming pool sandstone patio to prevent staining and deterioration was a product called "Mason's Seal" which was a clear substance just sprayed on which might help preserve your lovely stone restoration. Lovely old house worthy of restoration and you are doing a great job!
The stone is really beautiful. The craftsmanship that went into laying it amazing. I admire your dedication to restoring the stone back to it's 'healthy' state so much. It lifts my spirits. Go Milly and Louis!
I don’t know much about restoration or anything like that but I know that you and your boyfriend have wonderful communication skills and I definitely think you guys are going to last for decades! Just the way he was teaching you 7:45 and encouraging you when you were getting it right and understanding that getting better at that skill takes time and practice. It really made me smile
Great investment. Love how you are taking professional advice on how to bring the outside of the building to a “healthy” breathing state. Fabulous work 😊
I would recommend sand blasting the Sandstone Window Sills & Surrounds. Using steel wire brushes will blacken the sandstone, while the sandblasting method will leave smoother finish and is far more efficient and less time consuming too.
Enjoying the progress, great work. Plumbum is the Latin word for Lead and you're right, plumber derives from that for teh reason stated. Also why the chemical symbol is Pb.
A suggestion for protecting stone is to coat or spray with silane and siloxane product to create a waterproof barrier without discolouring the stone work This will prevent staining and prlong interval between steam cleaning. ⁰May have a slight sheen
Please don't do this. The stone on this house needs to breathe. Covering it with anything other than a clay/lime based coating will accelerate degradation by locking in moisture. What I try to explain to my customers when they want exterior stonework painted is although it might sound like stopping water getting onto the stone will protect it, they don't take into consideration that the stone still has a top, bottom and back edge that can still absorb atmospheric moisture and once that's locked in and can't get out, the stone will turn to powder over time. It's a complete myth that silicone based paints and renders are breathable, I've done alot of jobs over the last 20 years or so where I've seen the building underneath suffer terribly by being covered over, including rotting of joists and timber lintels.
Ps . I like what you guys are doing. I am 60 and I like to see "kids" working and doing the right things to renos. So often the younger generation just would buy that and make everything ultra modern and "ickey" with no thought to the history of the building.
This take really annoys me, it's the cost. Proper conservation of older houses requires A LOT of money and intensive research. Most people would prefer wooden sash windows, but when UPVC is often over half the cost it's a no brainier.
Me too , I'm too lazy for lifting and carrying , I love doing things where you can see the results as you go , when it comes to something like this , steam cleaning looks the job I'd want to do. It's like creating art in reverse , you are taking paint off , but actually revealing a much better bit of art underneath.
Brilliant work Louis you have transformed the window stonework. Also enjoyed the Northern Soul music whilst watching you do the work. Look for to seeing it without the scaffold in place. keep up the good work.
Thank you guys for sharing your renovations. Wow😍 what a beautiful home you have, it's so impressive the hard work you are doing; the skills you have as a team; and the detail you are going to in order to make the building beautiful and sound! You look like you have a lovely builder too ready to give advice. You will be bursting with pride when you have finished all your hardwork! Congratulations on everything you have achieved so far, incredible!Even just as a viewer of your vlogs you can tell your home will be absolutely stunning! How lovely the previous caretaker must be so happy too to see you bringing that beautiful home back to life again!❤🤩
I’m thinking of the infinite patience required never mind strong arms required to see this steam cleaning through. I just wouldn’t be able to sustain that level of commitment. The natural look of the stone is just so beautiful.
Wow that looks so nice!!!!!!!!! Y’all are such hard workers!!!!! I absolutely adore all the love blood sweat and tears y’all are putting into your home!!!
Great example of try, try and try again until you find a solution. Such a good life lesson for us all! The cleaned stone looks beautiful (and will now function as nature intended!). Wonderful work!!!
I must admit....I'm envious of your beautiful house 😓. Wish I could have that opportunity. Needless, congratulations on getting it and the stunning work you doing. Avid follower here! ❤💃
💕Fantabulous I really love that you are bringing the stonework back to the life it deserves💕I love these older buildings they were built to last & I think they look so much better than the modern glass buildings going up in & around London💕
You two are truly amazing, and are to be commended for your dedication and commitment to restoring this beautiful piece of history. Sending you ❤ from Australia.
There’s something insanely relaxing watching the steam cleaning. What a great job taking off the paint layers and letting the stone breathe again. So refreshing to see your out takes, you are human 😢
You guys have come a long way in a short time. Please get yourselves some anti-vibration gloves using the sanding discs or you will end up with vibration white finger later in life. Definitely will need lime mortar for all the pointing to keep the brickwork breathable. Keep up the great work 👍
3:13 That’s so satisfying looking if you become one with the steam. You can feel the deep breathing of the building 💙 it! This entire project is so costly, yet has to feel Wonderful! Slowly seeing it coming together. YES! 🙌🏼
Oh my goodness! Your home is going to be so lovely. You will know and love(or hate😅) every nook and cranny! You are embracing it with love.❤ Have so much fun with this adventure.
I have been watching your video's from the start and I have to say that you have the most beautiful old house on the Internet. I really enjoy your work and attention to detail, I am very much excited for the new video's.
I love that you are taking the time and expense to bring this piece of history back to it glory. Well done I am looking forward to following along on your journey.
Awesome videos guys. Just found your channel today. On the last video now. Can't wait for the next one. Guy that place is going to be so beautiful when your done.
It’s great to see you wearing good health and safety gear. You’re setting a good example especially when working with stone. Gotta protect those lungs!
A wonderful transformation! This work will help the stone be healthy, and I agree, this should reduce some of the damp. Fantastic work. And a cool trivia bit about lead, thank you! ❤
Latin for lead is plumbum, which also gives us plumb from plumb line because they used a lead weight to determine if things were straight up and down as well as plumber.
D2 Biological Solution can be sprayed on these surfaces. It cleans off the discoloration and continues to work with sunlight and rain to continue to keep it clean. It is often used to clean tombstones. Too expensive for a whole large building, but great for spots that tend to keep redarkening often.
Hi guys, you two are doing such a great job on the house, getting all those cracks folled will be a job and a half, nice to see Louis wearing decent PPE, can yoh make sure my room is ready when I come over to visit😃 best regards to you both from a Kiwi living in Australia, Les
Fantastic to see the stonework coming to life, and the skills both of you are acquiring. I agree on the investment in the steam cleaning, well worth it. Can't wait to see what you have for the next video
Look up the Brandenburger Tor in Berlin. They used a special spray so it dosn’t get black. At the Frauenkirche in Dresden they didn’t use it so it will be all black again after some years. The Frauenkirche was renovated in 1993-2005 and it is still visible the original black stones and the new beige ones. But sometime it will be a black church again. :)
Coal black 100 and odd years of it from all the houses around your my mum told me it was always gray sky's when she was a kid due to millions of coal fires in everyone's houses .
Interested in what you are doing with the outside stone ,i have a 1850 stone house I would have tried brick acid on the stone before grinding it and after all the steam cleaning I would treat it with Everbuild water seal, this should seal it and reduce the degridation you talk about in the future and you shouldnt need scaffolding. Dont try and make it new again and remember the older it is the more it will fight you
My jaw actually dropped when I saw the sandstone after you showed the "before" photo with the cement. It looks so good!
I feel like this is how you know you really love a house. The way you're restoring everything and taking so much care to bring it back to its original beauty warms my heart. Sanding the sandstone was a true labor of love, honestly. And it looks truly stunning afterward.

☝🏽 this!
It's weird, because in a previous video I'm sure they followed this method. Perhaps the videos are not as chronological as I thought?
You're making good progress! At first I thought you had bought a house in Belgravia, the London neigbourhood, and didn't understand how there could be a run down house in that area. Wales makes more sense now.

Now you've steamed cleaned it, it makes sense the colour the roof tiles went, when you jet washed them. They were all matching once
Brilliant! You kids are going to learn so much from this renovation. I look forward to years of viewing. You've become my regular Wednesday YT show.
Young adults, please! ‘Kids’ may come across as condescending, even if you didn’t mean it that way. 🌸

It is so lovely; we're so pleased to have it exposed and looking good again! Thank you so much! That's so kind 🥰
You need a Dremel multi tool with stone grinder attachments for the fiddly bits round the windows 😊

This stone renovation is intense, but so worth it! Beautiful!
Totally worth it to get the stone cleaned. Looks great!

Also why the lead weight that hangs from a string to get a vertical line is called a plumb bob.
