Don, I just wanted to thank you for having such a fantastic channel. I’m just getting started in leather working and I have already learned so much. You’re by far my favorite LW channel. 👍
Don you need to add a disclaimer, "this isn't as easy as I make it look!" I tooled through my dad's cancer battle as a sort of therapy and haven't had time to tool in years but you make me wanna crack the tools back out even though I know it'll look nothing like your art.
I love the way you just draw the pattern - like it's nothing; and then you cut the pattern - like it's nothing; and then you tool the pattern - like it's nothing. It's mesmerising to watch the process, and the finished piece is so beautiful - it makes a spiral binder look like a family Bible.♥
Small tip to help you with those zippers Don, and that would be a double sided tape preferably one meant for leather or fabric. That stuff saved me so much unwanted frustration, and single handling improved my zipper game 10-fold! Hopefully this helps you or anyone out
Thanks Don - this is a really interesting design that I may look at adapting for making some sketchbooks. The fully flexible spine is a real winner for that!
Another excellent video showing many of the essential techniques! Another feature for a future version might be a little "bookmark" tab to mark the progress of writing in the notebook. Perhaps your viewers will have some ideas on that. Thanks for another great video. I have learned so much watching them (antiquing, Razor exacto, etc.).
Wow Don your talent is mind blowing and inspiring at the same time. I’m brand new to tooling and man is it tough. Especially not having any artistic ability. Can’t draw a stick figure 🤣🤣🤣
Will you have the material pack available for this in the near future? The entire set, not just the closure pieces. :). Thank u in advance! Love your videos!!!
I think it’s to prevent the leather from shrinking from when you get it wet to tool. I’ve seen others use something similar, but also the first time I’ve seen someone use painters tape.
it looks pretty easy but the front floral tooling i know I can't do that and I still don't know how you got the back ground from the black 🤔might have to watch it again do you have a step by step on that? nah i don't think you will reply
Hi Don, thank you for these great videos they are a big help and you do such good work. I’m getting ready to make my grandson something like this for his graduation from college but I do have a question. Can I ask where I could find an edger like your using to trim the inside liner after sewing? I’ve never seen one quite like that before and I think that would be a great piece to add to my leather making tool collection? Thank you so much for your help much appreciated. Tammy
For simplicity: Just meassure the diameter of the spiral, multiply that by Pi (roughly 3.14) for circumference and subtract the thickness of the notebook. For example: Diameter 2,5 centimeter, thickness 2 centimeter Spinepiece-width: 7,85 minus 2 -> 5,85 centimeter (2 1/3 inch)
Beautiful work Mr. Don!! I was wondering how do you dye the panel face edge? Where you have the tooling, how do you dye around where the stitches are. In this case I assume it’s black dye? Thank you in advance!!
Great video Don! Learned a lot as usual from you. Can't wait to knock a couple of these out for my composition notebooks. Are the snap closure pieces 9-10 oz. As well? Will be hand stitching for now, I can see blisters in my future. Who performed and what is the song in the background? Created to create..... thank you for what you do.
What is the measurements for the notebook I’m working on it currently and get it mocked up and the notebook won’t fit at all and it is college ruled and a 3 subject
awesome for me the snap would be in my way i would have put that on the backside of the cover and added and another snap to hold the cover open and the option to who make one too always can shin animal different them the next guy thinks outside of the box too
Lol Honestly, I always just assumed the college/wide ruled just probably referred to the line spacing.... never actually stopped to compare them despite having used hundreds of different spiral notebooks over the years 😂😂😂
Hello Don. Could I just mail you my two spiral notebooks with 35 pages each of Theological Notes for you to make covers for. I don't do leather. Thanks, Ted Allen
You make something difficult look easy. That's true craftsmanship to me. Well done, sir
Don, I just wanted to thank you for having such a fantastic channel. I’m just getting started in leather working and I have already learned so much. You’re by far my favorite LW channel. 👍
Dude I watch a lot of leather smiths but your skill with not only using a swivel knife, but also DRAWING the patterns, is unmatched
Don you need to add a disclaimer, "this isn't as easy as I make it look!" I tooled through my dad's cancer battle as a sort of therapy and haven't had time to tool in years but you make me wanna crack the tools back out even though I know it'll look nothing like your art.
I know what you are saying. Just his carving alone looks far better than all of my tooling, lol. I have never claimed to be an artist.
The free hand drawing, the swivel knife, the finish. Just perfect in every way
I love the way you just draw the pattern - like it's nothing; and then you cut the pattern - like it's nothing; and then you tool the pattern - like it's nothing. It's mesmerising to watch the process, and the finished piece is so beautiful - it makes a spiral binder look like a family Bible.♥
There are some very talented people on TH-cam and your one of them. Amazing.
That is gorgeous. I’m getting one for my daughter once she’s a little older.
Love this notebook cover! The color combo is beautiful! Thank you for taking us through the process.

Beautiful work. Wow! Who knew? Very impressive.

Wow, I’ve been looking for a spiral notebook cover for months. I don’t think I’m talented enough to make one. I wish I could buy one of yours!
wow, truly a master at work. very inspiring
It is beautiful thank you for sharing
Cool little closure. THanks
Thanks Don - this is a really interesting design that I may look at adapting for making some sketchbooks. The fully flexible spine is a real winner for that!
Great project. I'll be looking forward to making a few of these. Thanks Don. As usual top shelf craftsman.
Beautiful you are very talented!

Beautiful!
Looks awesome

Don 👍you’re the man
muchas gracis y saludos desde el perú.
Acho o máximo o seu trabalho você poder compartilhar seu conhecimento tá podendo ensinar aí muito bom mesmo
Very nice 😮
What's the reason for the painters tape? You are the only tooler I've seen use that. You are also the only one I've seen draw directly on the project.
I think it’s to prevent the leather from shrinking from when you get it wet to tool. I’ve seen others use something similar, but also the first time I’ve seen someone use painters tape.
Beautiful ❤️
Awesome !

WAIT!! New to leathercraft... why do you oil it first? I haven't seen many others do that. thank you in advance...

Wonderful, just missing a pen holder appendix. Congratulations! 🇧🇷1️⃣3️⃣
fantastic
Could you show how you did that dye pattern?
Great video Don!

Created to create..... thank you for what you do.
Hello, what type of glue are you using? It appears you let it sit and dry before assemble? Your work looks amazing.
Great work, love your products, is there any way, you could go a little into pricing?
You do fantastic work. How much would it cost to put this particular cover over a Bible?
I would like to make one like this, but with a three ring (taking from a binder). What thickness would you recommend? with the same design?
Beautiful! Love this cover!
What is the price for this cover?
What is the measurements for the notebook I’m working on it currently and get it mocked up and the notebook won’t fit at all and it is college ruled and a 3 subject
Don is that a Skiving blade in a X-Acto knife handle❓ if it is I like it
Do you sell these covers?
How much does it cost for the leather to make the cover
Hey Don, what's your stitch width on this one?
What would you charge for that 🤔 I have a hard time with pricing my work .
Boa tarde meu amigo eu sou daqui do Brasil vocês vende esses pino aí de bordar couro os livros também Parabéns pelos seus trabalhos é top
Don what size thread do you use on the Cobra sewing machine?
Thanks, John
I think he said #23 needle with 207 thread.
How much will cost to leather 0:41 craft a large size bible
Can you use that pattern for a Bible?
awesome for me the snap would be in my way i would have put that on the backside of the cover and added and another snap to hold the cover open and the option to who make one too always can shin animal different them the next guy thinks outside of the box too
great vid, the music kinda ruins the vibe but still you obviously skilled
Your work is great I just wanna tell you that it’s very impressive. The music is so annoying.
🤩😍

R.I.P Fly
