I have a '96 4cyl Camry with this code. I changed the fuel pump, fuel filter, spark plugs, wires, dist. Cap, ignitor, ignitor switch, cleaned the throttle body and IAC valve, so I'm doing everything apart from P1300 and the car won't stay running. Unlike the '98 camry, mine has all four wires connect to a distributor cap which connects to a black box next to the ignition module. For my vehicle, should I back probe the connector on the ignition module to get the feedback from the ecu? I really don't wanna change a computer because I never did it.
Hey, Tim. We are dealing with a misfire on a toyota with 4 wire coils. The owner replaced the connector, and for some reasons, the IGt wire is installed where the ground wire is supposed to be. I would say that the IGF is shorted to ground. Since the IGT is the signal from the ECM to the ignitor controlled by a power transistor or driver in the ECM, a shorted IGT wire would most likely take out the driver unless the driver is protected against such thing, right?
That's a good question because SOME ecms will protect itself from a back feed or short, while others (Chrysler In particular) will burn out the driver. I would suggest checking for the signal right out of the ecm, with the coil DISCONNECTED.
was it confirmed to have bad ignition wires? My 97 camry 2.2l has the same code and also doesnt start up when turning the key. im waiting on new ignition coils to come in the mail but should i go ahead and order ignition wires?
Hi I was wondering if this can be done with a multimeter instead of an oscilloscope like shown in the video. I tried but im not sure if the readings were what i should be getting, 5v on conf and 1.2v on control.
Thanks for this tutorial. I learn something. I do have a couple of questions: Is this Autel like a poor man's version of the Snap-on Verus? Second question: When you were cranking the ignition the engine just keep on cranking without actually starting. Did you disconnect the fuel pump fuse so that the engine won't start and won't get flooded? I'm not a mechanic - just a guy who wants to know how to fix things. Thanks for the education!
Hi I’m having the same issue with 1999 Toyota Tacoma sr5 2.7 4x4 manual already replace coils, spark plugs wires, ecu check the ground I’m still getting the code and stalling every time I drive any help please what should I check next
Hey Tim and Silvia. Way to put the Autol to great use!! Looking forward to the next video on this car. You are really good with that Autol. I am going to recommend to Autol that they pay you!! Nice work. Love the videos. Hoping I can get just a fraction of the skill you have on electrics. Take care, work safe. Bob
Funny how you said that Bob! the people that sent us the free one, noticed all the videos we are doing on it, and wrote us, and asked if we can put a link to their Amazon page, on all our Autel videos. So we responded and said, "if you send us the ms908 ($2100), we will do that, and all future autel videos, they declined. They actually expected us to put a link to their page in ALL our autel videos, just because they asked, and we get nothing in return?
Hey Tim! I believe that's what's called a waste spark system. It fires one cylinder and then the companion cly fires at the same time during the exhaust stroke. The spark goes out the plug, through the head into the other plug and back to the coil. The igniter isn't the same thing as the coil but on this model its inside the coil! I love my electrical lol

Glad it was helpful!
Also check for leaky injectors or injector seals. Good video.
Excellent video! Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Would it be the same on a 1999 Toyota corolla
If the engine sizes are the same, then yes.
Was the replacement a denso brand or a generic universal coil? Because I’m having the same problem and the coil I installed isn’t fixing it
Making me nervous with all these Toyota Camry videos all of a sudden, LOL!😉

Hey David, before you probe those wires, see if you can get a wiring diagram to see what those wires are suppose to read.
I also have a 96 and have done everything you have done

Hi and THANKS!! The AL539B is more comparable to the snap on vantage. No we did not disconnect anything, BUT, that would be a great idea to do so
