    If you aren't comfortable enough to know the gear you are in, you have bigger things to worry about than customizing the car. Talking about people who want the gear pattern on the knob. The bushings upgrade probably makes the gear change feel cleaner definitely.

    i never understood the complain of metal shifters. I live in Tx. we have gotten 20F to 110F and i never frozen my hand. Burnt it. maybe once. for the most part when getting back in a hot car. turn the ac on, wait a few minutes and your good.
    Also i think the numbering is for people who wanna show off that they got a 6speed.

    The shift pattern can also be a legal requirement. In Australia if it's not displayed on the shifter it needs to be displayed right next to the shifter with a sticker or plate. I personally prefer it on the knob itself.

      @CrazyLegsMcGee would say that a very easy fix for this is when entering the car, try the gears. You'd know very quick that reverse (in a 10th gen civic at least) is far right, down!

    • @chrisjosekuehl
      @chrisjosekuehl ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the only important info might be which position reverse is in and for people who might not be regularly driving the car. In the old days there more variations in shift patterns to.

    • @djintu
      @djintu ปีที่แล้ว

      @CrazyLegsMcGee my wife and I both drive hatches, my reverse is to the right and down, hers is to the left and up. We switch cars frequently, and trust me, it’s hard to override muscle memory.

    Short shifters like this only decrease the distance you need to move the shifter, by doing this it also increases the resistance needed to put into gear by shortening the leverage applied. Luckily cars like this aren’t difficult to shift.

    Your not actually shortening the throw, your shortening how far your arm moves but not how far the linkage needs to go to get into gear.

    • @TORQToolbox
      @TORQToolbox  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a valid point brother

    • @geoken2
      @geoken2 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      How does that differ from any short shift kit? They’re all just changing the geometry of the shift lever so that moving the knob Xcm moves the linkage further than it does when stock. If you do that by shortening the geometry of the triangle above the last fulcrum it’s the exact same as doing it by shortening the geometry of the triangle below that fulcrum.

    How is the weight compared to stock shift knob.

  • @vse0
    @vse0 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    short height shifter is usually a very bad idea, you want to increase the height so that the shifter is closer to the wheel, and then use a new short throw shifter kit to then keep the overall shift throw the same, but then move the knob closer to the wheel. making the lever shorter is just ...

    Lmao they pulled a fast one.
    A short throw shifter changes the axis of the lever (your shift lever)
    Moving the axis towards the center of the lever greatly reduces the throw.
    This does just as much as hopes and dreams

    • @geoken2
      @geoken2 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lucas Gorski moving the axis towards the center of the lever and shortening the length of the lever itself are actually the same thing (assuming were at a starting point where the axis is not already in the center).

    • @ly-yx1rk
      @ly-yx1rk 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@geoken2 this does shorten the throw (a bit)
      But it's not close, a real short throw shifter ruduces travel by up to 70%, it also reduces angular travel
      It's much more involved than just moving the axis

Wears an ak shirt and has an ar15 chilling in the background. 😂 can't find shifter retainer clip, reinstalls parts, takes car out, stands on it for the first time, engine goes💥, shreds exhaust side compressor fins, finds out missing clip feel into boost pipe on intake side of intercooler. Obviously not what actually happened however it's a real pucker factor when you lose a clip of a bolt in an engine that’s opened up.
