Nice to see a balanced discussion. I see RedSea as something to aspire to - met a guy yesterday that had one and he was pleased with it. Like all things, these tanks have some small gripes. I don't see improvements over fittings used on kitchen cabinets: Use of end panels that are out of the way and not the best quality, the door fittings that rust are straight out of a flat-pack kitchen unit. Surprisingly, on the smaller tanks, the cabinets also use a technique used on kitchen cabinets - the sides go right up to the top and the top is butted against it with only a few metal inserts to support the weight of the tank - in a kitchen there is the worktop to manage this style of construction. The mechanical Auto Top Up looks like something I would use to switch off an RO/DI in an emergency. So the devil is in the detail? At least some of this stuff can be replaced and the door hinges should be easy to swap out. I expect over time the things that don't work well can also be swapped out too.
Yep, hi I have red sea e-260 why did they make the 2nd drain emergency when you have to trickle into this to keep water level in sump stable, and also why does the gate value move allowing the water level to mess up everything. I will never by a red sea aquarium again do to not be sure how stable leaving the tabk for holidays would be
Question, I am trying to work out how to do a sump, and I’m wondering how you have done yours or other great options. I don’t know if you have done a video yet, but it would be easier to help me know about sumps.
@@PuffDaddyReef LOL - great video by the way... I just got a RSR250 2nd hand and this video will be super handy - I have it scaped and half full of water but haven't got my return pump yet ;) ... and yeah I still can't really work out if there is much of a difference LOL
He always has some good humor in his videos. I really like them. Also like yours gallery Aquatica. Crazy how small this world is with the internet. If I am ever in your area will be sure to check out your store. I have Learned alot from your videos. Cools to see how other countries manage reefs. No chiller required in upstate NY where I am. Seems a must for AUS.
I would address the other problem first, why is there water splash marks on the inside of your doors? 2:32 and 2:45, that could be causing your hinges to rust.
Agree with your list-quality of the tank is great but the stand and sump is just pure profit and price gouging given the quality and design. For the price the stand is awful and the sump design ie proprietary socks?! Bad ato!, are just not adequate. There needs to be three hinges to hold that door and the stainless steel quality has to be better. The stand would’ve been better with removable panels of lighter material ie acrylic/glass combo or even pvc or plastic, so that they’re lighter and more durable than wood. No need for doors just magnetized panels with an aluminum frame like Proclear aquatics Prostar setup or Mode aquariums stand. And give us a proper gate valve like Waterbox!
If you have so many disliked things about your tank I think you better go custom make a new sump tank and the plus point you can design whatever way you like it..
Lots of issues with the ATO....I just put my tank together and after watching yours and some others videos I decided to just skip the whole ATO that comes with this tank. Also, I’m going to try the Red Sea filter cups with some carbon and filter pads in them instead of the filter socks. Have you tried that and/or do you have any opinions on it?
I would still probably get it. Most of the problems are in the sump. The glass looks great. I really want to look more into waterbox for the next aquarium.
@@PuffDaddyReef can't say I have as many complaints as you with my r2r250 but * to that I have a custom sump. I too am considering waterbox for my next tank. Sadly didn't know about them when I got my tank. Probably would have gotten the Reed 70.2 instead of my r2r250.
@@PuffDaddyReef - Problem I have with the larger Waterbox systems is that the area underneath their stands are separated by partitions, leaving you with smaller compartments rather than a larger open sump area. And the sumps are my next issue with WB....the sumps are way too small for those large systems. The sump dimensions for their 220 is smaller than the 190 and 170 sump dimensions, which is ridiculous and why I haven't pulled the trigger on a larger system yet. I am however considering buying the Innovative Marine APS 200 stand which is all aluminum, has an open sump area, has 2 side doors, the back of the stand is open for ventilation, and is 30" deep which will allow for great aqua-scaping and plenty of room in the sump area for equipment. Then bite the bullet and get a custom built Reef Savvy tank to fit the dimensions of the stand. The reason for not going with IM's 200 tank is that it has eurobracing and I'm definitely not a fan of EB.....
I just subscribed to Bahama LLama Coral, @Ben10 Fish Anonymous Channel is awesome very unique! I like that he does Reefing, Freshwater, and exotic pets. Thanks for the recommendation.

Wholeheartedly agree with the auto top-off gripes. Mine failed after a week or two!

Bigger is better! Are you buying one or building it yourself?
Puff Daddy Reef I might look first. I think I have a design choice I’m interested in.
Nice run through , I’d keep an eye on the wood splitting and treat those hinges with some rust protection or swap them out entirely for new ones.
Great tip. Thanks!
so glad you're back
Thanks! Good to be back!
Thanks mate - never noticed before the different doors vs panels - now it's gonna annoy me ;)
good to hear the sharks doing well ;)
🤣 Sorry about that!

Thanks for the video! I think I’m buying one right now. Came back home to get cash. 😬🤞🏼
Awesome shout out for Bahama Llama. Remy is awesome! Great video! Was this shot before you added plants?
Yes. This was shot before the plant video. More recent update next week.
Enjoyed the video bro. Nice work. 👍 Excellent points. 👊
You know what I miss and should get glass lids those are so much better at keeping evaporation down might save some water.
Glass is nice and you need less top off. Unless you have heat issues. Evaporation helps cool the tank.
Love the video mate, please could you do a par pur video of the kessil a360x with narrow reflector ?? Thankyou
✅ The Par Values with the reflector are in this video th-cam.com/video/pCBHYcOTF_k/w-d-xo.html
Definitely going to go check out Bahama Llama- what a great and positive idea 👏👏

Skimmer overflow probably.
You could always custom build a new stand for the tank, would be a fun project!
for that price tag, you shouldn't have to. I agree fully with this list though. I have a reefer and hate the hell out of the stand and sump set up
I love your honesty
The best part about not being sponsored 😜
Apply a thin layer of regular Vaseline on the door hinges to stop them from rusting.
Great tip! Wish I knew this sooner.
Great you’re supporting other youtubers 🙌🏽 I’ll be there one day
You forgot to mention that all tubing is in metric making it difficult to modify.
Intel inside sticker...ha ha 😁💯👍 P.S. Red Sea is not worth that $$$...for sure!
you make me hate my tank lmao
Good video.
Thanks

Rusted a little?

Will probably do that for the next one. I’ll get at least another year out of this.
6 months in you'll want a bigger version but that is not limited to red sea.
I agree on everything: hinges are shit, doors are shit, ato is shit. Only Elos, which I also own, is worse.
Yup.

Never tried the filter cups. Sounds like a continent way to do run some carbon.
Are you Puff Daddy ?
Did anyone else notice the intel inside sticker? Lol
HAHA yes. It probably runs on an ARM processor if you consider my Apex my tank's CPM.
@@PuffDaddyReef hahahaha ok

If you have 8 gallons of top off being used in less than 8-10 days on that tank you have other issues.
You've got the overflow pipe in the middle. Goes on the right.

🧐 hmm interesting I’ll have to check these two channels out.
Agree redsea stands are trash for the money you pay
Maybe in the future you'll keep rocks out of your sump...
Yah...I bought too many rocks.
The first thing you should hate about it is where you put it.
On the 9th floor overlooking the city? Pretty epic to me.
Jesus!! Why dd you buy the damn thing!!!!!!!
You need to be more careful with your tank lollll you’ve literally broke everything in the sump lol
🤣 So true. It’s a problem when your a tinkerer.
