I was having a hard time understanding this topic in my textbook, and your textbook clarified it perfectly. Now I know how to answer a homework question. Thank you!
Thanks for clearing my concept.... For 15 minutes me and my friend looking at diagram in book but getting confused each time. After seeing this video i explained whole diagram to my friend 🎉.
@@jasonzhang7725 Yes! I was in an introduction to Biology class and they reexplain all the things we learned back in high school. I was home schooled and opted for other science classes so I was learning this for the first time. My professor was really mean though and expected me to already know all of it.
yeah thats great and all but it still doesn't tell us what the genotype is, it just gives us options in the case of the yellow plant being crossed with a recessive plant. Are you saying we need to know the offspring phenotype to determine which genotype the yellow plant has?
So, what's the purpose of the test cross again? I mean we already know the yellow pea plant needs can be YY or Yy, is the test cross like proof or something that supports that it will be YY or Yy?
@@nicolelantz I'm confused on this as well.. it seems like you just proved that both homozygous or heterozygous genotypes are possibilities in the video. So which one is it?
Can you please tell me... What if the test cross yields 100% recessive alleles after crossing homozygous recessive mother with homozygous recessive child?what is the genotype of father? Please tell me
If you have a homozygous recessive mother, and her offspring are 100% homozygous recessive, than the father of the offspring must also be homozygous recessive. In this case, this would not be a test cross. A test cross requires you to have one parent with the dominant phenotype, crossed to a parent with the recessive phenotype.
The example covers both genotypes. If the yellow parent plant has green and yellow offspring, then the parent yellow plant is heterozygous. If the yellow parent plant has only yellow offspring, then the parent yellow plant is homozygous for the yellow allele.
I'm confused as to how you're supposed to know that the green genotype must be homozygous recessive. If you have two unknown genotypes, say two gifted cannabis clones, how would you go about testing that? Thank you. :)
Thanks so much. I'm gonna pass my bio test tmwr because of you

Spending 3 minutes in this is far better than spending hours in class
2 years later, thanks, the definition of this topic in my textbook is just confusing! thank you for this video, have a great day!
thank you so much! I passed my biology quiz with a score of 100%!! thank you for the well explained lesson!!!
you taught me more in less than 5 minutes than my teacher has in 2 whole lessons
yo its so unclear on paper and so clear now, thank you so much
Y’all need to share this video, she deserves a million
This was an amazing video. Everything was clearly explained. Thank you!
Thank you so much this video was easy to understand and will help decrease the anxiety I have for my bio test
Short and simple thank you so much!
Thank you! We're getting tested on this soon and my professor won't explain this to us and got upset when students asked for clarification!

Im confused, if you do the punnet square twice than how are you supposed to know which of the crosses is the right one??

Quite interesting with simple explanation tq maam and ur english is easily understandable

So, what's the purpose of the test cross again? I mean we already know the yellow pea plant needs can be YY or Yy, is the test cross like proof or something that supports that it will be YY or Yy?
Yes. A test cross is used to find out if an organism with a dominant phenotype has the homozygous genotype or the heterozygous genotype.
@@nicolelantz I'm confused on this as well.. it seems like you just proved that both homozygous or heterozygous genotypes are possibilities in the video. So which one is it?
Thank goodness
You explain in a crystal clear manner but I have a question ...please can you explain why we take homozygous recessive ?
bcos it does not interfere with phenotype if we have dominant genotype

Wow thanks big time
Thank u very much
very clear English language i am bilingual
Nice explanation 👌
May I ask? What is now the genotype of the yellow peas in the example?
The example covers both genotypes.
If the yellow parent plant has green and yellow offspring, then the parent yellow plant is heterozygous.
If the yellow parent plant has only yellow offspring, then the parent yellow plant is homozygous for the yellow allele.
