No clue why anyone would consider not including Testament in the Big Four. To my ears they far surpass Anthrax in every possible way : musicianship/song writing/consistently badass output since the 80s and honestly there is no comparison. I've never understood it frankly. But they say opinions are like assholes-we all have them. And as an aside-I'm really glad Alex found his way back from jazz to metal. What a friggin guitar monster he is.
I also prefer Testament over Anthrax and Megadeth but I think Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax are in the Big 4 because they were some of the first thrash metal bands to sign with a major record label and they have sold way more albums than Testament and other thrash metal bands.
Don't worry about it, the BiG 4 was just a popularity contest meant to decree the 4 biggest thrash bands at the time as far as following. It was by no means meant to judge the quality of songs by bands like Testament, Overkill, and Exodus. If you like the songs and you like the bands who cares, as a thrasher nobody should be listening to anybody else about what music and bands are good or not. If you like the song, you like the song, don't worry about what other people say or think.
I 1000000% back this comment so much, Anthrax honestly sucks so much because their vocalist, the most I’ll do is their hits their deep cuts don’t compare to testament, anthrax is so goofy it’s hard to take them serious, no disrespect to anthrax tho they still are better than half the music industry now even tho they’re way out of their prime but yeah compared to testament or exodus? No contest
Lombardos drumming makes them sound so different. I love Gene Hoglan and he crushes everything he plays but this is a real example how two musicians can play the same music and it will sound totally different. The drums sound so swingy and the fills are classic lombardo. Really suits Testament riffs.
Right! Dave L has that type of pounding swing that made "practice what you preach" such a unique and groundbreaking album at the time. You hit the nail on the head, Hoglan can do no wrong... I like the way you articulated it by saying Gene H crushes everything he plays... A legend to me... Meanwhile Dave fits what made Testament stand apart from just being a thrash band from the jump! As I type this, the SONG Practice What You Preach just started in the video, proof is in the pudding, Dave Lombardo had that song swinging rock and slaying metal!
Can't wait to hear the new basslines in Megadeth upcoming album. Steve digiorgio plays the most insane basslines in SADUS Vision of misery 1992 ...check it to mychannel...SADUS FOR LIFE
I agree, he is my favorite metal bassist along with Steve Harris and Cliff Burton. Love Steve Di Giorgio's basslines on Death's Individual thought patterns album.
Great to see Dave playing with Testament, He is a legend. I was very curious to see him play Night of the Witch because I love that song and I was really disappointed to see they had issues with it..
Thanks bro 🤙I was at this show too. Got me two shirts. Death Angel and Exodus were unbelievable lol. Also cool to see a lot of legendary musicians from Testament finally play live.
The reason Testament is not in the big 4 or be considered for a “big 5” its because they never has been involved in any controversy, gossip, fights or legal problems between members so they were never useful for the press or general public… and maybe why I respect them the most.
@@grants.9701 That was an amazing show, we missed most of Death Angel, we were running late. But I lived in the Bay area late 80s when I was in the Navy, Seen Testament A few times with Vio-Lence and Forbidden. Also Vicious Rumors. Bay area metal hard to beat.

It's been 30 years since since I've seen Testament. Caught them 2x on The Ritual tour. They sound amazing, gonna have to catch this tour. Thanks for posting!
Thanks for posting this. I missed Testament when they toured with Slayer for their Seasons in the Abyss. Got there right at the beginning of Slayer's set.
Pity of the recording errors during the Alex's solo in Electric Crown (in top3 of his anazing solos) . Anyway raw and powerful performance. Lombardo fulfils my expectations:-)
Ran into Alex at a coffee shop right down the street “buzzmill” super awesome dude. Sounded like they were having some technical difficulties and I know Dave messed up one of the songs but from what Alex told us he had 1 months notice to learn all these songs. But they were still killer 🤘🏽
I had to be at work early the next day, so I could make it to the show :( How was the punch of those Dave L double kicks? They sound so much louder in the mix compared to anyone else live.
As big of a Lombardo fan as I am, he can be really sloppy live at times and he totally f'ed up Electric Crown at the same point in the song 43:02 last night in Portland, OR. They had a bad show overall and DiGiorgio was pissed. I highly doubt that they continue to tour or record with him after this tour.
There is no way I would have gotten that close at an 80s Testament show and felt comfortable pulling out my expensive phone to record it and not fear it getting trashed in about 10 seconds. Given the audience is like the band - 50-something dudes with mortgages - was there even a pit? :)
Richard Christy explained to Howard how legendary Testament is, of course Howard was like I’ve never heard of them. Howard thinks Metallica is the only metal band that exists.
Personally, I don't think Lombardo's drums work very well in this band. Yeah I know it's him, but it just doesn't sound quite right to me. Something is amiss..
The reason why testament was not in the big four was because they were to much for metallica even though testament copy stole their style just like many of them period
Daves good but he's so use to playing fast, he's just not very good at mid tempo songs. Or songs that have a lot of changes in tempo. When you play for Slayer, that's what happens. Then again he's 57 years old. Also Gene was/is a bit more Technical than Dave.
@@joelopez7197 LOL, I saw live this year DTA (Di Giorgio and Hoglan) and Testament (Di Giorgio and Lombardo) - my observation is that Hoglan still is in top form. On the other hand, during Testament show Lombardo was very, very sloppy, even in DNR, which he originally recorded with Testament.
