That guy will never be in the state of mind to even consider getting himself some help, and when it's offered to him, he won't take it. Good on you for walking away, he may not have posed a threat but you never know what he might have been carrying. What a scumbag.

Johnny: Thank you so much for your awesome videos. I spent a lot of time in Toronto in the 1970s - really miss it (I now live in Port Townsend, WA). Can't afford to visit, but your videos make me feel like I'm there again. Wish I could afford to move there.
FYI: I worked as an RN in various Psychiatric facilities in Texas and Washington State, for 14 years. Regarding your encounter with the angry man. PLEASE stay safe. Walk away, do not engage with these disturbed or impaired people - it will just escalate the situation. Trying to talk to them accomplishes nothing - as you found out.
I'm 73, and have a rule I follow: Never try to argue with a drunk or a mentally disturbed person - you can never win.

What do you do if they are following you? In Sep 2022, this guy in my US city who claimed I called the police on his car being towed when I never seen him in my life and he followed (and walked to the side) me for about 15 minutes / some 5 blocks until I got to a doctor's office I needed to go where the guards called the police. He wanted me to withdraw $200 from the ATM and didn't notice I wasn't walking to the store where the ATM was. I'm lucky he didn't (appear to) have any weapons on him, but I still kept an eye on his hands the entire time. I was very afraid as this kind of thing never happened to me before in my at the time 37 years on this planet.

    • @douggoodman8114
      @douggoodman8114 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

@@IvyANguyen If I was followed, being only 5ft 5inches tall, I would do my best to avoid a fight. I'd try to go into a nearby business / restaurant or other public building (if they follow you inside - you can make a scene and get the staff call the police). I worked with violent, mentally ill, drug addicts, etc. Unlike some of my co-workers, I was never assaulted. You have to control your emotions and try not to react, no matter what the person says or does. And, of course, I learned simple defensive postures and actions, to limit my risks if I was ever attacked. Sorry to hear you experienced what you did. Sounds like you handled it the best way you could.

And if someone ever follows you like that, try going to a public place or get on a public transport and avoid. Never engage with people like them.

At 28:27 I think Orphanage Mews is the name of the alley/street. Not an actual orphanage. That red brick building is the Chinese Burmese association. It was purchased by a group of immigrants (including my wife's father) back in the day to assist new arrivals from Burma to Toronto. It was a gathering place to eat, play games and share information. Now many of those original owners are passing on and those that remain are getting too old to keep the place up so it is going up for sale I believe.

Actually there a lot of TH-camrs with hundreds of thousands of subscribers that do first amendment audits and prank videos for clicks, likes, and views. They are actually the ones harassing people, looking for confrontations and pose a threat to the public. They are the dinguses themselves, and what’s even worse is when they play the victim when they’re being “harassed” by that citizen. They deserve to get reality checks from these regular citizens.
In Johnny’s situation, this is the complete opposite. He avoids confrontations and walks away, because the sidewalk is a public entity and he has the right to record whatever he wants on the sidewalk. He shows Toronto like he does. The other TH-camrs record videos in private buildings and make it an issue when they are being told by security or other people confront them; they are not the idiots, the youtubers are.

Elmocambo brings back old memories I thought it was on Spadina.Crazy expensive if a popular band is there and that was many years ago I can't imagine prices now.Toronto had some great bars I really liked the old Larry's Hideaway.I put a lot of miles on my legs walking around Toronto likely 20 miles a day and doing some real stupid things like running out of money or too late and no bus home until next day.
I haven't been to Toronto in at least 20 years so I would struggle to remember much.I remember the big sign for Sam The Record Man on Younge st.
Word of advice do not interact with arguing people just keep moving.I never feared anyone because i was in good shape and very fast but you still never know there are whack jobs out there on drugs.

You know, for a guy who doesn’t want to be on camera, he really got out of his way to face your camera to tell you that. All he had to do was keep facing the other direction and he would’ve been fine.

Great content Johnny as always. That guy is a trouble maker, trust me, it doesn’t matter who you are or what device you got, he will harass anyone and make a scene on purpose just to cause @&$%.
That person is mentally ill we see them all the time in TO.
Next time, my advice is do not engage for any reason, walk away like you did and don’t even explain yourself, it’s pointless; ill people regardless the explanation will always be troublesome it’s natural for them.
    Keep up the good work.

You should've pressed that emergency alarm button for your safety. I can't believe he followed you so far! Dumb question but how big is your camera that he saw it and was so paranoid?

Some people just want a pointless fight Johnny. I had a female follow me and wait at the entrance of Ikea because she insisted I had taken her car parking space. I had moved my car (it wasn’t her space) but I gave it to her but that wasn’t good enough. She followed me and kept her one sided Argumentative going which was pointless until I reported it to security. I felt sorry for the small child that was with her. It was obvious the kid was used to her angry rantings. Humans are sad sometimes.

Yes, met one in my Drs building, in the crowded elevator.
She accused me of pushing her, then told me to stay away from her kid.
An unbalanced mother, and a poor toddler who seemed used to her rants.
Later, as I was leaving I saw police come to the building, I assume it might've been due to her.

I’ve been going to Pho Hung since the late 80s or early 90s, still the best Pho in Toronto as of last time I went, lots of other goodies too. It was a different location I think, but same family.

Hi there . The man is clearly not ok. He may have used drugs that cause paranoia so he won’t understand a logical conversation. This is a failure of mental health system and it’s quite prevalent in downtown Toronto. I have lived here for most 3 years and have seen that You could get followed or hear rude words and gestures when walking around . Confronting them won’t help. Just walk away and if they follow on, alert the a security guard or police personnel . There are usually many of them in downtown.

Glad you're safe, lots of reports these days in Toronto and lots of strange people if you would say... been downtown a lot recently trying to get a reservist position in the army reserves and with the 48th and trying to get as much info as I can get and things have been changing a lot in my point of view, been going regularly before with my friends now it's not too safe anymore seen a lotta things so hope you stay safe in the future, I wouldn't advise fights with other random people on the street but I would recommend to learn some self defense just in case as I do right now just to protect myself would be helpful!

Someone has to explain to me what this "yoink" thing is at the end. I always think of a weird pig when I hear it. But is there some sort of story behind it? Or did he just come up with some weird sound to end his videos?

I got really anxious! Take care of yourself! I want to ask something regarding the weather. I'm coming on Saturday for 2 weeks and I''m a bit confused because I see people wearing both t-shirts and jackets. So, what's the weather like? I checked the temperature but the climate is different from Greece so I can't tell if I need to bring a thick jacket.

Johnny, you were absolutely right about that guy following you, it’s a public place an besides he came to the camera at first, if he didn’t want to be on camera why did he walk towards you, makes one wonder if he’s actually in trouble with the law. I had the same situation here in the UK. I told a guy to google the does and don’ts on filming in public, it was egg in his face when he realised he was wrong.
Keep up the great work, your content is amazing.
