    I joined CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) in Philadelphia a year ago, and I wanted to reflect on my experience as well as share some information about this organization and encourage others to consider joining. CASA is a national organization that partners volunteers with children in foster care to help ensure that no part of their story gets "lost in the system," which is what happens to so many kids. It's a highly impactful way to make a real difference in someone's life. I have loved working as a volunteer -- if you sign up please let me know, because it will spark a lot of joy for me!

    Thank you for this video. I just started my training here in Georgia. The information for the first training and the material that you have for homework is a lot. You have encouraged me to continue because there is a kid that needs my encouragement.

    Thank you so much for making this. I have been considering this, but the information available online was very sparse. This was really comprehensive and super helpful.
    I'm really relieved I found this, because I'm wrapping up a graduate program in psychology but have been wavering on whether or not to pursue such a demanding career. Knowing that I could still be doing something very similar and incredibly helpful is a huge comfort. I'm definitely going to apply when I graduate next year!

    Thank you so much for sharing, this was very informative on what to expect going in as oppose to reading the material online, I was nervous at first but with what you explained it doesn’t seem like to much to handle, again thank you for sharing your experience with us! You’re amazing!

    Thank you for this- I’ve been thinking about being a foster care parent, but keep learning about so many youth’s negative experiences. Also thank you for advocating for the youth’s real name!

      If you're interested in fostering I think joining CASA might be a great first glimpse into what the system is like and whether it's something for you. Thanks for watching!

    I'm exploring this opportunity and wonder if you always visit the child at their foster home or if you can visit them at school or take them for a visit somewhere, like for ice cream? Seems like it would be beneficial to see them in various environments. Thanks for sharing all this great info!

    • @sarahlynnirving
      @sarahlynnirving  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You can visit them at their foster home and at school, I've done both! You are not allowed to transport them or drive them anywhere but you can always walk down the street to a park or something nearby to spend time at a different place 😊

    This is definitely something I am interested in! I am currently taking a gap year before going to law school and thought this would be a great opportunity. It also helps me learn a bit first hand about court proceedings! I guess my only fear would be the length of time required for each child. Would you say that each case is about a year in length? Thank you for this video!

    • @sarahlynnirving
      @sarahlynnirving  ปีที่แล้ว

      The average length of a case is 2 years and they usually ask you to commit to 2 years when you start. But every case is different so it just depends! It's a great program, I hope you check it out 😊

    was all of your training in person or online? and what times were the training?

    • @sarahlynnirving
      @sarahlynnirving  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My training was all online because we still had covid precautions in place. I believe now some classes are in person, some are all online, and some are hybrid. They offered a daytime and an evening class and I took the evening one. I hope that helps!

    I'm interested in becoming a child advocate but I would like to do this as a career do they have any options where you could turn volunteer work into actually being paid to do this?
    I'm currently in school getting my associate degree in Human services

    • @sarahlynnirving
      @sarahlynnirving  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would imagine that to pursue this full time you would want to get a degree in social work or a related field. Good luck!
