Hi Jamie. I think of twist Shimano ocea jigger 2000 into lure shore jigging baddas in mediteranean, casting 3-4oz metal jig and 2-3oz sinking pencil or minnow. It need some mag force and also adjustability. I think of monomag conversion combined with some fixed magnet.Fixed magnet adjust to cast metal jig and screw in monomag as much is needed for lures with more air resistance such minnows. Am I thinking right ? Something I should avoid or look at ? Thank You.
Right reel for the right job. Budget reel would be a Kastking 40R with a PMR Bespoke Custom® fit Akios mag and the High end would be; An Akios 555LSi with one piece levelwind cage, full Akios mag, Pro full stainless steel Spindle, PMR abec 9 hybrid ceramic spool bearings, PMR Bespoke Custom float chamber bearing kit with abec 9 hybrid bearing, ManFish ultra-fast retrieve full stainless steel gears and 20lb PMR Bespoke custom® drag. Why would you ever put static magnets in a reel when there are sooooo many choices of mag with so many different sizes, grades and strenghs
Good question. There are a few problems at Seigler, the first is the lifetime warranty, the conditions for this keep changing, this has had an effect on sales. The SM, although an initiative design, has massive problems. Mostly due to bad manufacturing after Seigler's move to the coast.. The spools have very bad balance, the spindles have incredibly bad tolerances and finish, the mag brake on the SM was about as useful as a chocolate kettle..... There have also been problems with stiff handles and binding issues at higher drag settings. I had a nearly 50% returns rate, so I stopped selling the SM reel. Please note, as I said all these faults were down to bad machining and bad manufacturing. This had a lot to do with Seigler moving to the coast and two of the main machinists not wanting to move the 100 miles to the coast so they went to working for the local airport (and got much better pay, I know because I am still in contact with them!!). Seigler, have had problems replacing them... Seigler have now quietly discontinue the SM reel because of all the problems and lack of sales Another point would be that Gerry's of Morcombe who were the main UK importer have stopped selling Seigler Reels. I have also stopped importing, although I will still deal with reels already in the UK The rest of the range so far have been great. I personally like the SG, LG and Ocean series. The problem now is the amount of time Seigler spend on their salt water fly reel. I guess it is the least amount of work for the largest profit! I remember trying to get parts for SG and LG reels about 6 months after covid had finished, unfortunate Seigler still had not made any since before covid started because they were concentrating on manufacture of the salt water fly reel.

SG/SGN or SS with PMR Bespoke Custom® SuperMag installed. The SS is the fastest and will give 20% more distance because it has run dry hybrid ceramic bearings but the SG/SGN has more drag at 30lb. The SS/SM has 24lb of drag. Bottom line they are all good!
The Seigler SGN has been one of my go to reels for over a year now. I use regularly on my IGFA 10lb class rod for light to medium boat fishing although i have hooked into a 35lb Conger and a 49 lb Tope. It dealt with both without missing a beat! Very Impressive! My Go to reel for my IGFA 20lb class rod is the Seigler SG and for my IGFA 30lb class rod I use an Everol VJ12. When it gets to the heavy stuff (Shark/Skate/Tuna) I use Shimano Tallica 12II Twin speed, Penn Fathom 60 Twin Speed and Omoto T30L-II GTR 2 Speed
Accurate Valiant 300 has duel drag, ie on both sides of the spool so can't be magged and therefore cant be cast without making a mess. I know Accurate put a mechanical casting control on some reels but its very hit and miss and not very good. An Accurate Boss 400 Fury on the other hand does mag up quite nicely but I would still prefer Seigler with the Hybrid bearings and lifetime guaranty!!!
If it helps I have the SGN and an Accurate boss dauntless 600. If you are going with a small reel then stick with the seigler but the Accurate dauntless is very nice if you move up a size. So the sgn is for jigging and live bait for smaller fish and the Dauntless 600 for pretty much anything that is not a blue fin or large shark.
I will get round to it but as there are only two in the UK, mine and Sea Angler has one which they are hanging on to for a long term test.... There is no point yet. AND if I am honest I want two reels here before I start R&D so I still have one to use on the boat when the other is on the bench 😏😇

Seigler has dropped the ball but give them a season, lest see what happens....
Is this smaller in size than the Poseidon 150 mini ?..... what do u recommend for a mini/small in othere models/brand?

Biggest fish I've had on it so far is a 42lb Tope and it handled it well.

No, sorry, never did one as the SG and SGN with a PMR SuperMag supersedes that reel with stronger drag and more simplistic build.

30lbs of drag is dreaming. Set it to more than 10 and you begin to lose free spool.
