I’d say most people in the UK over 30 have an escort story, as a kid in the 80s they were everywhere, had 3 myself over the years an XR3i, a mk 4 RS turbo, and one of the final production Escort GTi ‘S, I do miss seeing the Escorts, they were a terrific car really.
I guess in most of western Europe. You saw them everywhere then suddenly after 2004 they were gone. Many a man who owned one and sold it for scrap smacks his own head now I reckon.
This is my favorite of all the F&F movies. It is such an icon of the early rally racing world that was not far from what you could buy at a dealership. When my dad was stationed in Germany in 78 to 80 he brought one of these back to the US. Being in the military brought some benefits including bring back cars and getting them licensed around some of the laws at the time. My mom wouldn't let him keep it since it was not a good family car. I wish he had never sold it. It would have been an awsome first car in high school. If only I knew where in Kentucky or Tennessee this ended up.
Thank you for covering this one Craig. My parents had one, back in the late 80s, a 72, if I remember correctly, when dad was stationed in Germany. He bought it from a TAD RAF Captain, who was shipping back home, a week later. Around 86, the original engine, as it was a base escort, had worn out, and the owner at the time, dropped in a 1.6 as a replacement, along with a reman trans. Dad still has fond memories of the car, as do I. Somewhere, I still have a couple pictures of us by it, outside base housing, before we rented a place in town. When we first watched F6, with some friends, I was the only one who knew what the car was, and had to explain the signifigance and cool factor, to the others, who had only ever been exposed to the USDM Escorts. Great video, keep em coming, and I'll keep watching.
I've been lucky enough to see these cars go sideways around a forest rally stage. The BDA twincam has a really unique sound, you definitely know what's coming before you see it!
Most Americans probably didn't know what it was and does charger probably drew more attention. But those who knew were buzzing. I think putting Paul in that car proves he was a petrol head.
"It's an awesome car for sure but hardly anyone talks about it" Because most that watch those films are *ignorant* when it comes to car history. If a car "looks awesome" in a Hollywood film then that is enough for them to babble endlessly how "awesome" (not *one* talks about the engineering side to it...) it looks. When it comes to successful rally cars it's awfully hard to ignore the incredibly successful Mk1 and Mk2 Escorts which won races from the late 60's to the early 80's. Had it not been for the onset of the no-holds-barred Group B era of rallying the Escort might have stayed successful for some more years.
I'm a big fan of this car, even before it appeared in FF6 and I was so happy to see this get the attention it deserves! One of my favourite cars from the franchise for sure!
My father had an RS1600 and later an RS2000 that it was an improved later version of it, great cars! Looking at the one that the guy paid to restore I noticed an Opel/Vauxhall engine? Can't understand why not an original one! Great one Craig, I was waiting for it!
I completely agree, but I still believe that Tokyo Drift was the last "cars were the stars" in the franchise. The Escort RS1600 was my favourite car in Fast 6.
@@Turbo.RF4 i liked the cars in Tokyo Drift, i meant after that film.. although maybe a few of the tuner cars in the 4th film i liked but nowadays it’s maybe like car per film lol
Ford Escorts are underrated workhorses...even the hatchbacks from the 80's...my Brother in law had two of them bad boys ...they could move especially on the highway...5 speed Manual shifting with that lightweight body!
Pretty underrated movie car for sure, i remember watching it and being really pumped up by the jump scene, i just loved the way it was shoted. The car sounds amazing and problably drives amazing too because of its rally heritage (love picking it up on rally games). Also, its one of the few cars that actually survives in the movie universe
At 4:25 the little white Escort. I "rented" one off a guy I knew years ago. I never thought much of them either. I don't know what engine it had but it was a 5 speed manual. It was one of the funnest cars I've ever drove! I beat the hellmb of that thing and it took ever bit!
I liked the Escort. I felt like it was an underrated car that hasn't been talked about when discussing cars from the franchise. And I get that when discussing the Fast movies, people mostly discuss Tokyo Drift and Fast Five. And while I liked both movies, I've always had a soft spot for Furious 6. I felt like it was a step up from Fast Five, going to an even more breakneck pace, bringing together plot threads from previous movies, featuring more colorful cars, having a race between Dom and Letty, giving Han closure to his arc, presented a formidable villain that made a great contrast to Dom's outlook and driving tactics, and even introduced a more intimidating antagonist.
Glad to hear you know about Australian falcons and holdens Craig. I own an FPV F6(souped up version of the falcon with a turbo) and a XR8 falcon( factory supercharged V8). Keep up the good work 💪
It’s really amazing that they put Paul in this car. His passion for cars was real, which is also why most of the iconic cars in the franchise were driven by him (Supra, Skyline, Eclipse, etc). His character’s interest in cars is more dynamic and varied compared to Dom imo because Dom despite how iconic the Charger is, he is always seen driving it for most of the time, with some notable exceptions of course. Because of this, the Charger in my opinion is Dom’s most but only famous contribution to the lineup of cars so far (other cars he drove only lasted for a short screentime imo). Compared to Brian, it almost like him driving which cars is like a midas touch; almost always becomes iconic.
The tank chase in this one was honestly my favorite action scene from the newer flicks, although watching that Mustang get squashed hurts every time! An entire video dedicated to how they filmed it would be super cool.
awesome video craig, I'm british and I love classic british/eurpean ford's, now all we need is the ford rs200 from the beginning of fast 4 right after the petrol tanker heist
I’ve wanted an Escort with a Cosworth for about 20yrs now but too bad we never had them here in the states. Closes thing I can get is a Mark I Ford Fiesta.
I always find the Escort an interesting car. I was fascinated on how well Paul's character Brian fits the car very well. Like I can see Brian driving a car like that in earlier movies. The Escort also gave me that rally car type of vibe. Good to see I was right.
The Ford Escort MK1 is one of my all time favourite cars and I once owned a orange MK1 RS2000 with a long list of pretty serious modifications to not only the engine, but also the gearbox, brakes, suspension etc etc. But enough about my car. This comment is meant to be about the car in your video. Although it is undeniably a beautiful example, I did notice a major discrepancy in my opinion. The engine isn't a Cosworth BDA unit. It's actually a 2.0 litre twin cam Vauxhall engine, commonly known as a 'red top'. Although the Vauxhall powerplant is, in it's own right, a fantastic engine and can make great power. It's just not the same as having a original Cosworth BDA!!!!
Anyone who doesn't recognize those old Escorts aren't really car people, or haven't been car people long. Almost impossible not to appreciate them no matter what you're into
For a rally car used in the Tank chase scene this has been one of my favorite cars of the movie. Simplicity in style but a British beast at its finest.
My first car was a 1.9 liter Ford escort lx theft recover it was 12 years old when I owned it and it had 137k miles I ended up selling with about 250k was a fun car for what it was I could feel the potential but I could never get the money to see it through.
Nice! It was running a Vauxhall Red Top 2.0ltr 16 valve C20XE engine (that was designed with help from Cosworth) instead of its tiny little 1.6. I used to have an Astra GTE 16v with that exact same engine.
Craig if you read this message. We owned one of the Escorts that was used in the film. It was originally white and used in competition in the North West of the UK. Then dressed up to be sold as white with blue stripes.
Have you made a video om Dom's charger Daytona in Fast 6? If you haven't. Please make one I would love to know about that car if you know anything about it 👍

(If you don't know Project Binky, I highly recommend you check it out, Craig. It's an obsessively detailed Classic Mini build with Celica GT4 running gear)
The jump car was actually originally an RS2000 part way through a restoration build. The car that didn’t land of the roof was offered back to the previous owner but he rejected the purchase
Glad you covered Escort one of my favourite cars in the series. Did you notice the Vauxhall red top 2.0 in the jump cars? This was done as the 1.6 Cosworth engines didn't have enough power to make the jump so they used more powerful Vauxhall motors. My next door neighbour now has the 2 original Cosworth motors from the movie cars that he will be using in Mk1 Escort Mexico's he is rebuilding
1.8 and 2.0 versions of the BDA were made that look nearly identical. Also, Ford Duratec and Zetec can be used. NO NEED at all to ruin another classic Ford by putting a bastard engine in there. That car is NOT restored to how it was !!

No one mentions the rebuilt car images shows a Vauxhall C20XE engine with red valve covers, not the BDA twin cam with black valve covers at the start of the footage
Hey Craig, love your channel brother. The USDM Escorts never came with a 1.9 Turbo. Some of the earlier Escort GTs had a 1.6L turbo not sure of the years maybe 1983 or 1984, but the 1.9 was never available as a turbo for the Escort at least not in the USA anyway.
@@craiglieberman 1.9 for sure was available but not with a turbo from the factory, they were 1.6L Turbo. If it had a 1.9 turbo then it wasn't factory. 1.6 and 1.9 look very familiar btw. Check it out, almost positive im right, either way your channel is awesome and I will be watching.
I loved seeing this Escort. Shame us American's got the watered down version. Now I'm hoping that an E30 get some screen time in the next film. It gets a mention in the F&F game that released this summer.
Craig, you’re next video should be talking about the F Bomb Camaro from Fast And Furious 4. I heard the original owner who does the show RoadKill from MotorTrend.
Nice! Looks like they went with Zetec engine with BDA lookalike cam cover. I'm fortunate enough to own one mk1 Escort 1300 Sport with similar setup, zetec, bda cover twin webers hiding fuel injection system in them. Its in restoration now due to rust in the body.
Agreed that there would be alot of hype if the xb or even xc ford falcon made an appearance in one of the movie if not the vintages maybe a new falcon or holden
Hey Craig ! 2 questions , what was the fastest 1/4 mile car in all the F&F series , and what is your personal favorite car from the series you did not own ?

Looked it up on Wikipedia, makes no mention of a 1.9 turbo, only the 1.6. The newer Escort GTs with the 1.9 were called the 1.9 "H.O." Check it out, almost positive im right, either way your channel is awesome and I will be watching.
I loved seeing this Escort. Shame us American's got the watered down version.
Now I'm hoping that an E30 get some screen time in the next film. It gets a mention in the F&F game that released this summer.
I have always loved these and want one!
Hey, Im just asking if you can do an review of the yellow Morimoto 350z
If you do, thank you
It was such a gorgeous car!! PS, 100% fact!
my favorite fast and furious car, it looks so sick
Nice video👌
Epic! What a car!
Craig, you’re next video should be talking about the F Bomb Camaro from Fast And Furious 4. I heard the original owner who does the show RoadKill from MotorTrend.
One of my favorites too! Something about it
Everyone: Goodbye please take it slow.
Craig: until then drive fast and take chances!
Nice video Craig!
Nice! Looks like they went with Zetec engine with BDA lookalike cam cover. I'm fortunate enough to own one mk1 Escort 1300 Sport with similar setup, zetec, bda cover twin webers hiding fuel injection system in them. Its in restoration now due to rust in the body.
I think you're right, as it would cost a fortune to do six genuine BDA engines just for a movie !!
Agreed that there would be alot of hype if the xb or even xc ford falcon made an appearance in one of the movie if not the vintages maybe a new falcon or holden
Hero video 💕 thank you for sharing
If you’re wondering the Halewood factory is now a Jaguar Land Rover Factory
I was excited when I saw this!
Hey Craig ! 2 questions , what was the fastest 1/4 mile car in all the F&F series , and what is your personal favorite car from the series you did not own ?
Fastest 1/4 mile I'd guess I think it was the Monte Carlo from Tokyo drift... The v8 in the first race against the viper
@@moeali8181 2500 hp Maximus Charger from the end of Fast 7?
@@StellarGale not exactly a franchise car... Just made an appearance which doesn't even belong to the F&F franchise
