I think Lestat likes to parade Antoniette around Louis because he wants him to kill her and maybe drain her. So having that plan backfire and Louis running into an old flame is so hilarious.
wait WAITT FJFJDJD lmaooooo I never thought of it that way😭😭 lestat played himself there ngl
Lestat telling Louis “Of course you can see other people” while shaking his head NO!
While swallowing uncomfortably, and looking pained in his eyes.😅😅 Yeeahhh ,this is why you don't play stupid games and you should always try your darned bestest to only ever say exactly what you actually honestly mean . Loll
This is still so funny to me loll
Oh it's Claudia time...
if you thought the relationship was chaotic before lol
This is where I feel the real rollercoaster begins. Like we were winding up to the apex, and now the story picks up speed and twists and turns of ups and downs.
😂 right???😂
Let's be honest, Lestat is charismatic, lol.
Even if he is a walking red flag.
He really is lol 😅
I don't think those things are mutually exclusive. In fact being too charismatic can be a red flag lmao 👀
@@lkcullen1918 kind of, some people defended serial killer cause they were too charismatic to be killers. 😅
Period. I can’t help but love him 😅
idk i don't feel that, i just find him offputting. maybe i don't find him as attractive as everyone else seems to so i don't have that veil, but he just unnerves me...
You have been super patient with all the input. I think you’re experiencing the show precisely as you’re supposed to. I always think you should know the genre you’re watching, so you know what to expect and understand the sort of art you’re critiquing, but you do, so you’re fine. I’m glad you’re still giving it a chance.
louis is gay (his relationship was lily was his way of hiding that) and lestat is bisexual
Yep and just to be clear, Lestat is not bisexual bc he's been a vampire for 200 years or whatever, he was bisexual before he was turned as well.
@@Abby-no7qk A misconception. Anne Rice started the Chronicles with a "no Sex" policy for Vampires. But she altered that over the years. Lestat is a very Sexual being. Anne herself described Lestat and Louis as a same sex couple. There are many examples of Sex with Vampires in Annes later books.
lestat has said season 1 he is non discriminating which closest to that is pansexual however book 3 and season 3 coming lestat is open as gay
so theyre both gay
@@rachelBrady-ni lestat enjoys being with both women and men but seems to prefer men, which i would say makes him bi
@@lovelaced Again, he DID before he really really loved Louis. Best way to describe is pansexual
Ooh, I think you might be the first first time watcher of this show who empathized with Lestat, even a little bit. AND you caught your own hypocrisy and acknowledged it! That's admirable.
You might want to check out Foxtaco who just started the show! He's trying to see Lestat from a vampires pov and it's very refreshing!
@@19Echidna ALREADY DID BOO
I mean, I was kinda sold on Lestat on my first watch, and the only context I had was the film. To be fair though, I don’t remember much of my first viewing because I’ve watched it so much and have picked up on more stuff as I’ve gone along. I also have a bit of complex when it comes to “monstrous” characters (for example Ben Solo, Beast, etc.) so I might be a bit biased, lol
LOL don’t even worry about being hypercritical of lestat - the show, especially in this first season invites you to do that! the discourse around him + his relationship with louis gets really heated and a lot of people are very passionate in their defense of him, which i imagine can be kind of overwhelming as a first-time watcher. ultimately it IS a gothic romance that zeroes in on most of the prevalent themes of anne’s work which can be maybe a bit shocking for people whose only knowledge of the series comes from seeing playful memes on twitter (which i love! but i think that much like succession these serve to kind of neuter the property to an outsider who might be interested in picking it up.)
anyway - i’m rambling and im only halfway thru the video. always love and appreciate your reactions! ❤️
yeah it can be offputting when new watchers bring up the blatant abuse and toxicity present in regards to Lestat (which is supposed to be noted, that's why it's written in), and people just jump in with "well it's a gothic romance buddy hope that helps"
@@lkcullen1918definitely. i love fan content like silly art and fancams and whatever else, but when there’s enough of it out there it kind of becomes the new “face” of the show (especially one as poorly promoted by the network as iwtv) and buries the lede for people going in otherwise blind, and it’s frustrating to see these new watchers get shouted down for correctly interpreting what the show is trying to say lol.
This is really well put. Watching the last season of Succession live and then seeing some really popular discourse just being accepted wholecloth (ex: Shiv's the most incompetent/worst, Kendall deserves to be CEO, Roman's a little meow meow) was pretty disconcerting, it felt like I was watching a different show.
And same with IWTV, both seasons. Everyone wanting to slap the labels of Good Guy and Bad Guy and 100% Victim and 100% Abuser, not engaging with nuance involved with really complex characters in a work that demands you put some critical thinking in.
The fans love the show, they meme about it, larger audiences pick that up online and then walk into it without really putting any mental effort into how they engage, or with the questions involved. And it's frustrating, because you want to talk about it, but getting swamped by "Lestat's just a dark character who loves Louis completely" or "Louis is a sweet baby angel who got groomed and abused by the Big Bad Wolf and that's all there is" can be difficult.
the 20 children thing was about the composer lol
Yep, Bach had 20 kids which wasn't all that unusual in those days because you could count on at least half of them dying in infancy. As for the song, when Lestat flips it to a rhythm everybody can dance to, It's still the same tune: Bach's "Minuet in G Major", lively'd up. It's why I always snort when Daniel plays Jelly Roll Morton's actual "Wolverine Blues" song and Louis says, "Yes, that's it". His memory ain't shit.
@@tdali8347 oh that’s so funny i never caught that before!!
At that time, they still thought Bach composed it but I read somewhere it might have been a different composer or one of his students…?
@@tvaddict6623 Yeah, I've heard that, too. No copyright laws in the before times, so creators like Bach -- Mozart was the worst! -- often stole from the more talented but less brazen. The "art of the steal" didn't start with Elvis!
Good lord...
14:00 Louis doesn't want to kill humans but he is happy to exploit others for his own monetary gain.
a capitalist through and through
I think this is true for most humans really
@@BG-kn3nt It's an important constant between book/movie/show Louis. He lived a comfortable life off the suffering of others who were "less" than him - whether he consciously recognized it or not. It's part of why he leans SO HARD into the guilt. He has been given a live of privilege, beauty, and immortality...and what did he ever do to deserve it?
@@glamazon6172 it’s super interesting because towards the end of season 1 in the church he’s talking about how bad he feels about the brothel house he has and taking advantage of women. Then he buys the Azealia and makes the women part owners. His morality seems to be on a sliding scale
his confession in the confessional ( 1st ep) shows how he is not a good person. we overlook that he takes girls without homes and whores them. i think people love louis overlook this info. there is no true one villain or hero. we have flawed characters driven by powerful feelings. it's a wonderful adaptation & writing of the stories & the performances are excellent.
Thank you for the housekeeping at the beginning! Also, as a "Lestan" who adores Louis, most of us ALSO act the way you do. It's important to know NO ONE in this show is perfect.
I think Lestat also realized in the exact moment when you did that Louis saw this as a relationship hence the happy (?) laugh, which Louis obviously interpreted negatively bc who wouldn't lmao. In the books Lestat has a habit of laughing at unfortunate times and when he feels vulnerable so ig this was what the show was going for here but who knows honestly lol, he could also just be a dick hahahah
Someone was sad and angry because he, Lestat, wasn't only his; and he found it so ridiculous (that the one he wants only for himself feels the same way about him) that he laughs.
Good point! Yes...thats gotta be Lestat's nervous maniacal laugh! I so very sympathize... laughing when you know you shouldn't be laughing and you dont even want to laugh...man...it's a curse.
i love that they show events as louis describes them, and then show alternative ways they might’ve happened (via daniel casting doubt) after the audience has sort of accepted louis’s original version
I love how vampire morality is presented as essentially a coping mechanism. You start from the conclusion, I’m a vampire, I’m going to eat people, and work backwards from there. How can I make this thing I’ve already decided to do “good” or “moral”? There’s no real answer, the arguments are all flawed. Seems like Louis is trying for a harm minimization approach. I don’t know if we have a good read on Lestat yet, he’s obviously thought about it but it’s not clear if he’s got a coherent philosophy. Maybe something like “we are a different, superior, predatory thing and it’s natural for us to kill”.
A "Sure, a harm minimization approach would likely be more ideal, but I am what I am and what I am is very good at being so so very very bad and I can not deny that in fact actually I kind of enjoy it and I just don't know what else to do with that aside from try to walk in it as comfortably as I can[ with varying degrees of success and/or failure depending on the moment]" kind of approach. Or something like that. Lol
But, yeah, that's probably not really especially clear just from the tv series alone yet.😊 So, we'll see, who knows!! 😁😁
Don't know if you read but I'm reading TVL and at the beginning (which is in the 90s) he only kills murderers, so I wonder if that's one of the things Louis changed or if the he started doing it after they separated
I love how observant you are, and believe me, the details that you are noticing now will pay off BIG in Season 2. I cannot WAIT to see your reactions to this creation as a whole (so far)!!
With Louis' mom I find it interesting in ep1 they are around the table and Paul is talking about how immoral Louis' work is that is providing for the family. She poo-poos Paul about it because she likes her lavish lifestyle. Then after Paul's death she shuns Louis as evil but still lives off his evil money.
I couldn't stand Louis' mom in this. She was such a a hypocrite, and in my opinion, was partially responsible for almost driving Louis to suicide.
Anne Rice vampires have such cool powers -- I've always thought the coolest thing is they can learn languages super fast, read an entire library in a day, learn to play an instrument just by watching someone play, learn to dance like a professional just by watching someone dance, etc. Yes, climbing straight up a stone wall is cool, flying is cool, Super strength is cool...all of it is cool...but I love the ability to acquire knowledge, languages, and abilities super fast. In our human lifetime it's hard to become REALLY good at one thing -- they can get good at anything! I might be willing to selectively eat some mean people for that! 😂
💯
42:22 - Those 1990s Gary Oldman as Dracula-esque shades on Louis' face🤭🤭🥰💖💖💖 (I adore all of the vampire pop culture and monster movie cinema references and nods in this show, in addition to the little nods and references to future books in Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles series and to others of her written works, like the Mayfair Witches; there's so much attention to detail, even down to the tiniest minutiae sometimes! I live for it ^-^)
There is also something they only have touched on lightly so far, that most vampires do not survive a long time (which is why there's only about 100 in present day)...they've been around for centuries --- even millennia -- so if they are immortal, there should be a lot more than 100 by now. But for many reasons (usually their own frailties or inability to adapt, etc.) barely any of the vampires who are created live for any significant time after being turned. An older vampire like Lestat would know that and would have witnessed it. Lestat is rightfully worried that Louis will not adapt and survive.
*Don't forget Lestat picked Louis after watching him live his life (which was full of morally grey stuff) and he could hear his mortal thoughts -- Lestat probably imagined Louis would love being a vampire and that together they could happily cull their victims from the pool of racist jerks who hated on Louis and dissed Louis. 😂 Lestat had pretty good reason to think Louis would thrive as a vampire.
The 20 children thing was referring to Bach as Lestat was playing one of his pieces.
Love that “know your enemy” line Lestat says before playing the Bach piece. You’re going to Europe to fight the Germans so here’s some German art. That’s what you’ll be destroying.
Also, there’s maybe the implication that Lestat is their enemy as well. You get the strong impression that he does NOT like soldiers. Good writing!
Lestat is a few hundred years old, and more than him being perceived as anti-war; I think he just has grown weary of human affairs. Even globally political ones. Wars are like the noise of quarrelling children to him. Disrupting his peace. On another note, I think it's brilliant writing that with this whole conflict of Louis, it's reflected in the setting. War is happening all around. Within and without.
@@7n154Totally! He’s been around a long time, and the time period when he was human was particularly disheartening. I’m sure it left an impression.
What I particularly love about the writing on this show is the great use of backdrops for the setting. Specifically the background time setting. Louis is at war with everything around him in this episode. Himself, his nature, Lestat, his familial attachments, the city council, etc etc. Meanwhile, all the turmoil is being reflected in the World War 1 events around him. Black soldiers gaining the right to legitimately fight for their country, a fight as well for some respect as equal Americans. And all American soldiers leaving home behind to face uncertain futures in foreign and vicious lands. The time setting and background events are definitely things to pay attention to in future episodes.
Movie Man's line is racism and that's a good line to have! 😂 This show does an excellent job showing how racism impacts Louis on a macro (mayor, the cops) and micro (pretending to be Lestat's valet. The white man who used to work for him, now working across the street and laughing) levels.
Not even vampirism can save Louis from the consequences of being Black in America.
I note that you didn't DENY being a vampire, sir.
I caught that too. He just laughed it off without giving a definitive answer. All he mentioned were his fangs. But nothing about his alabaster skin or church window eyes. And what's he drinking in those mugs all the time?
Like Jacob(Louis actor ) said, Louis is the most vampire among them.
Jacob Anderson and Sam Reid have so much chemistry, Sam (Lestat) even wears a locket with him and Jacobs pictures in it lol that’s why it’s hard not to love them together when they’re getting along, the chemistry is palpable
Absolutely perfect casting- whoever put them tgt should be proud of themselves
@@1b0y4me even their interviews together are so adorable lol
I…that’s utterly adorable, I’m not even sure how to feel about it, lol
This is such an incredible show from the acting, writing, directing, cinematography, set design/costumes it has everything, it's one of my top favorite shows. And also one thing you will come to realize is that the Anne Rice fandom as a whole, The Vampire Chronicles, and of this show is very intense, loyal, and passionate always has been. Thanks for your reaction I always love when new people discover this amazing show.
"Was it raining, Louis?" is my favorite line. It has so many meanings to it. Love it.
not the shiv comparison 😭😭
It tracks though. Shiv only brought up the idea of an open-marriage when it suited her. But when Tom acted on it . . .
So far you are catching most of the nuances the show is throwing at you and It's great! and a very rare find.
Love your reaction videos for IWTV, and the insight you have into the relationship and the show itself, the way it is made, shot and writte. Great work and I can't wait for the rest of the series.
BTW - the "20 children" comment was Lestat commenting on JS Bach whose Minuet he is playing and then turning into the ragtime version in the scene, not himself .
Your last comments were really astute because when Anne Rice was asked (many times) why she wrote about vampires, she said her stories had vampire characters but were really stories about "us" (humanity).
One thing to bear in mind is Lestat has been a vampire for over a century, so he’s killed around 10,000 people at this point, whereas Louis is still new, so their perspectives are going to be very different.
with the whole swinging from being hypercritical of character to empathising with them, i feel like that is a very common experience with watching this show, because despite the fact that these characters are literal monsters that do horrible things to humans and to each other, the characters and their thoughts and feelings and motivations are also very relatable.
The episode when we see why maybe it is not a great idea for vampires to hang out with their human family. Besides possibly hurting the humans or scaring them, it can result in danger to the vampires, too. Imagine the human family talking to their friends (or neighbors, or church) about their brother or son who never visits anymore, only comes around at night, isn't aging...it's a not a huge leap to pitchforks and bonfires. Vampires are very vulnerable during the day.
That's what I point out when people say that Lestat was trying to isolate Louis by telling him he should stop seeing his family in episode two. He was only telling him that because it's for their own protection, as well as to not frighten their families. People are not stupid, and they will eventually notice things and start asking questions. It's only practical for them to stop seeing their family and friends.
@cullenarthur8879 exactly. Plus, I also believe that Lestat is genuinely terrified that Louis is going to be one of those fledglings who never thrive and don't survive. Because Louis is way more sensitive than Lestat expected (I truly believe Lestat thought, after observing Louis for a bit, that Louis would love being a vampire and together they could feast on racist jerks for decades)... but since Louis is having existential angst, Lestat is also afraid that Louis might get incredibly depressed when he ultimately has to watch his family die. For a vampire to outlast his actual mortal lifetime is a benchmark of sorts -- cuz its gotta be hard to finally watch your family succumb to death in a way the vampires never will. I'm sure Lestat is worried about how all that would effect our sensitive Louis.
@@--ArcAngel-- I agree with all of that. I think people automatically think everything Lestat does is out of manipulation, but I don't think they really know Lestat. He genuinely loves Louis, and there are reasons he tells him certain things and keeps certain things from him. Like you said, I think he worries that Louis is too sensitive to be a successful vampire. That's One of the reasons he tries to keep Louis from seeking other vampires, out of a need to protect him.
@cullenarthur8879 yeah totally. Lestat is considering Louis feeling and mental health in all sorts of ways. We know that Lestat isn't revealing the extent of his powers (which people believe is, as you say, some form of manipulation) but Lestat sees that Louis is reluctant to use even his own fledgling powers. Lestat knows that fully vamping out would potentially throw Louis into more depths of self loathing. Man...I hope so badly the writers do Lestat properly in the adaptation of book 2...because that book deals with so many of the internal moral struggles which we are touching on here, except we get Lestat's perspective. I'm excited! Fingers crossed!!
@@--ArcAngel-- I think season three will show him in a different light. It will be based off the Vampire Lestat. Finally, his side of the story.
That this show not only delivers on everything that's important when it comes to great entertainment, but provokes an avalanche of discussion and theorising as well, is why it's one of the best shows out there (past or present)! Dubai Louis' narration is so easy on the ears, Lestat's outrageous behaviour is so entertaining on the eye, and every last detail of the dialogue and direction are to die for - and having your insightful, intelligent commentary on each episode is a wonderful bonus I look forward to! And yes, Louis' red suit in particular is BEAUTIFUL!! Great job!
[I think ] It's also a part of why it's such a great adaptation of the books it's based on, too, because the books and the fandom/theories/discussions/etcetera surrounding it were very much the same way!!🥰💖💖🤭🤣💜🤍🩶 I love getting to essentially revisit and expand upon that again nowadays, too! 😊😊
louis to jonah : hes a lot, its not perfect
lestat recounting the moment: im a lot, im not perfect
That's TRUUEEEE -An excellent observation! 😊💖👍🏻
Lestat... He is much more honest and direct than he gets credit for.
Been refreshing your channel daily for this - love your review/reaction style so much!
Yeeees! I've been looking forward to your reaction for the next episode. You're so good at pointing things out that I didn't pick up on.
As a polyamorous person, let me say that it's very possible to have healthy polyamorous relationships that are based on love, mutual respect, and compersion instead of jealousy, full stop. That said, Lestat suggesting an open relationship after already having had sex with someone else? Decidedly unhealthy and doomed to fail
I loved the way you caught yourself egging Louis on! It's hard not to get into it when the narrative is punishing racists
Can't wait for you to meet Claudia!
The thing is, Louis was okay with Lestat banging Antoinette, he said something along the lines of "I knew what was happening and didn't stop it" "I understood the indulgence" and was IN the room when it started, the problem is Lestat not killing her afterwards, dude crossed a boundary with that because it meant it was more than just a one off fling (or what it seemed like to Louis). So I'd say Louis knew and was alright with having an open relationship just not a poly one
Then Louis hooking up with Jonah who he had a history with... all of it boils down to them having abysmal communication skills 0/10, they really could have had a good thing going 😂
most of the shows best lines are quotes from the novel. maybe we can get a book review when the second season is done?
These reactions remain splendid and a delight to ride along for.
Thank you for what you do here.
Liked and shared.
when lestat was "training" louis in earlier episodes, the selectiveness was about stealth, about choosing the victim that would be less missed so the vampire is not a target. what louis was proposing was this moral dilemma of killing the "evil-doer" (how it's called in the books), not about protecting the secret of their nature. it's mostly about his conscience because louis was raised very conservative and very catholic. he was not happy in his human life and he still tries to conform to human values that hurt him in the past when he's not one anymore. enter lestat's frustration 😂
also I think it's interesting to keep in mind that lestat is quite a bit older than louis, he's younger in the books but the show aged him up to being 140 when this is taking place (110 years as a vamp) so remember that he lived a lot and probably has been through his own moral questionings and despair, and that sometimes the advice he gives louis (leaving his family, for example) comes from his own personal experience and what he believes will hurt louis less
This analysis is absolutely top tier. Haven't seen a reactor GET this show as quickly as this, absolutely incredible.
I love unhinge Louis, but the thing with Louie is that he acts on pure emotion he doesn't think through his actions
Pause as much as u want its amazing ur getting excited, u can go back 10 seconds if needs be! Thank YOU for watching this show! We should be the ones saying thank you. Even if you dont like lestat it doesnt mean u dont love the character. as in the character is bringing out negative emotions but u love how hes written...that type of ting but im glad ur enjoying everyones characters!
Love your reactions… I wanted to add to your commentary 8:42 that I think Lestat is angry that Louis suddenly wants to be more selective because he knows that Louis does not mean humans, he means animals. I don’t think lestat would mind Louis being selective and more careful if he kills humans but that’s not what Louis means by being selective and careful.
One "of course" too many.
I love that scene. Whenever someone repeats 'of course' that many times - they're usually trying to convince themselves more than others.
Louis is gay, yes.
another EP review I enjoyed!! this episode is so heavy.. it has all the existential questioning that Anne's vampires have in the books, dilemmas about their nature, questioning their humanity and place in the world, and different ways of approaching it, plus all the added depth that show introduced of racials issues and struggles of black man in American in that era, and Jacobs' performance is so incredible!! this episode is also a big tipping point in dynamics! can't wait for the next one!! 🩸🩸🩸🧛🏾♀🧛🏾♂🧛🏼 you're my fave IWTV reactor I will keep repeating this on every video lol
Now I personally love Lestat as a character. But it is absolutely valid to be hypercritical of him and he does a lot of really horrible things. It is important to note that this is Louis' version of Lestat and this episode shows us Louis' narration is not reliable. Of course Lestat still does awful things which are true. I won't say more because of spoilers. But it's also fine to enjoy bad guys and villains and antiheroes, too. You can enjoy Lestat and also recognize he does worse things than Louis by far. My favorite character is Louis, though. I forgive all his crimes, even eating a cat.
I'm so excited for you to meet Claudia and to see what you make of her and how she affects their relationship. Looking forward to the next upload!!
Don't feel bad about contradicting yourself and changing opinions coz trust me from Ep4 you'll do it so many times to a point you'll get used to it.Moving forward it's marathon 😂😂😂
Found your channel because of your iwtv ep 1 reaction, immediately subscribed and watched all 3 iwtv reactions you've posted, then saw that this one was only posted 9 hours ago and immediately collapsed in on myself like a dying star knowing it will (understandably) be a couple days before ep 4 is up. these are great! this show just keeps getting better.
Thank you for another amazing reaction! Can't wait to see the rest! Re feeding on humans vs animals, I think one of the reasons Lestat insists on Louis hunting human is his fear that Louis won't be strong enough, as feeding off animals doesn't provide as much strength (and libido, as mentioned in the episode 😏). One of Lestat's greatest fears is losing Louis, so as his maker/husband it makes sense that this aspect would be super important to him. Also he constantly has the hots for Louis, so the waning libido would be a big no-no 😅
Louis' family rejecting him so hard is at least partially because they know he's in a homosexual relationship.
Indeed! Plus his family seemed like they didn't approve of him before Lestat ever came around. Especially his relationship with his mom -- it always seemed strained. And even Louis brother (who he loved) was very judgemental since the very beginning of episode one.
Finally getting to watch this after being at work all day ahhhh what a treat. Love your commentary as ALWAYS. Definitely excited for the Patreon posts.
Lestat is a DELIGHT to watch. Even in all his red flags lol
I am also biased heavily towards Louis. Beyond him being the narrator and one of the main characters, as a queer black woman, I just feel for him so much more. But I completely understand Lestat's mentality. And it has got to be so FRUSTRATING for him to deal with Louis's reluctance to commit to his "vampire nature" when Lestat has embraced it so comfortably for SO long.
Glad you're watching the Episode Insiders too! I will say to be careful with those because sometimes they say things that are from the books that could be considered a little spoiler-y for first time watchers of the show.
About the vampire powers: not every vampire has every power, some they are born with it, some they can learn. Some powers are more common (read minds) than others (fire, levitation). There are other factors that affect how powers work, but I think it's best to let you see them for yourself later.
Additionally, some vampires pick up certain skills very quickly. It will come natural to them and they therefore are usually more proficient in those skills than other Vamps... Certain ones might be particularly skilled in the fire gift or the mind gift, etc... For some of them it doesn't even matter what age they are, in general age equals power level in this vamp lore, but they can be MORE skilled in a certain gifts then a very very older-than-them vampire might be.
your reviews are great! as someone who has consumed this show almost to the point of hyperfixating on it, i tell you, you're watching it as you're supposed to. i watched s1 back in 2022 and s2 as it was coming out, and i think any watcher would definitely need that space to process what you're watching. it's normal to love the characters very deeply and hate the characters very deeply, if anything, it's how you get the most out of your viewing experience! hope you stick around until s3!
also, if you like the unreliable narrator aspect, you're going to love s2 (which is already the best season that tv has put out in years in my humble opinion)
So glad you are going forward! You are doing a great job on picking up on what the show is laying down.
Vampires move quickly, so the average passersby don't see what is happening. Also, Lestat can stop time so no one is witnessing these attacks. The viewer, such as you and I, see what is happening as part of the "unspoken" narration.
I don't know if vampires actually stop time, or if they honestly just seize control of all the minds/thoughts/perceptions and physical movement around them with their telepathy/mind-control and telekinesis powers in a wide range around themselves.
But they can make humans around them believe they see nothing or believe they are seeing something other than what is really happening or just cause the humans around them not to take any notice or pay any mind/attention/alarm/whatever to what is happening around them like humans might/would/ otherwise normally do.
Can't wait for you to meet Claudiaaaa 🎉
Great reaction as usual ! Your attention to the themes is always so gratifying to watch !
Solid episode and it def continues to get even better. I love Claudia as a character so much so I'm looking forward to you meeting her!
The mama du Lac imitation had me cracking up 😂
its fun watching the show again with you, love your reactions and love how you understand lestat to the point where u can predict him!
also your nails
as an active part of the fandom its very intsnse but thatnnk you for watching !!! loveeeee your discussions yay!
......the reference to "the 20 children" was a reference to JS Bach, the composer of the piece Lestat started playing...........
this makes my week i was so happy when you posted this finally have time to watch yay
I must recommend that you listen to "Bloodsport" by Raleigh Ritchie at some point, it's Jacob Anderson (Louis) music from years before iwtv, yet captures the dynamic so well.
i love the way you edit these episodes :)
43:38 - The thing is, vampires are so much stronger than humans, they could easily kick a door down like that even just accidentally if they weren't actively trying to do everything super softly and carefully. If you really really think about it. ^--^
21:16 - I like Daniel so much.🤭🤭😂🤣💖💖💖 (with his little interjections, such as "Or the more rehearsed" and all) He is a fantastic character, to me; infinitely equal to all the others. ^--^
I also like the way that I literally couldn't tell you sometimes, just by listening to it, if the tapes from the first interview utilized audio pulled directly from the Interview movie(with Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise and all in it) or new audio with TV-series' actors' voices. I love that! 😊
......join us down the rabbit hole.............Lestat wearing a wedding ring from this episode on............
Loved this reaction! Louis really was fantastic when he gave in to his nature huh? I don’t blame Lestat for loving that side of him. Lestat loves everything about Louis, including and especially the things that Louis hates about himself. Unfortunately, this kind of just makes their flavor of problems worse haha. See you in the next episode!
My problem with Lestat's lofty promise of "be all the things you are, and be them without apology" thing is that it was a lie-they were pretty and tempting words, but he really only meant for Louis to be all the darker things that Lestat saw/hoped/wanted for Louis and he is constantly shaming or annoyed at Louis for being at least half of the other things that Louis actually is. -__,-
( Like it was a pipe!dream, which Lestat promised Louis but did not actually successfully deliver on in every way so thoroughly as Lestat said he would and/or thought that he would. Lol )
I’m a “Lestan” because I’ve read the books and once you hear things from his pov it’s hard not to love him 🖤
Lestat told Louis to be selective in choosing the victim for their own sake, so the hunt would go smoothly. Louis suggested to be selective for the benefit of their victims, which Lestat never cared about.
31:16 - Louis does say something in one of the previous episodes about being a homosexual man himself, essentially he was just previously closeted and/or in denial , I think. If I recall it correctly.
Lestat does not have any emotional intelligence to teach Louis, however, unfortunately; but Lestat does have very much emotionality and no-fucks-given to rub off on Louis in general, though. Lol
Oh and also! I'm polyam! Been in a committed 4 person relationship since 2016 - it's a LOT of work. Jealousy is a huge component, and you kind of need to be the kind of person who is comfortable with being extremely open and honest at all times. I don't judge anybody who prefers to stay monogamous. I've found that a lot of people confuse polyamory with swinging, which is also a totally fine thing to do but they are not the same! Lots of folks wanna swing and ALWAYS get caught up in either an imbalance (one partner getting more action and attention than the other) or can't handle the emotional core of a relationship with multiple partners. That's why you hear about them falling apart so often.
can't wait for you to watch ep4!!!
finally the best character of this show next episode, i can’t fucking waittttt
First of all, the tale is suppose for us to take Louie side and back and forward with Lestat. This is Louie prespective of the events. Sometimes, like we see for his words, memory can be fuzzy or not knowing the intention of the other side.
The question of selection goes far deep that Louie is trying to not see. Lestat is saying "what determinates a bad person" Because a murder, can have kill for his/her own safety, but Louie already determinate that a murder is bad! Someone who steals for his own survive is less or more bad, then someone who cheats, lies, betrays? And the list goes on and on. Thats why, when Louie mention the poets, Lastet replies that can too can make bad things. Because they contribute things for society, they can be spared if they are bad people? Louie itself had a criminal life, but he did it to give his family a better life. So did he deserved to become food? He is simplying things too much
Today's reaction is why a lot of us have been insisting on ignoring (at least partially) the comments for this show!
You will feel like a hypocrite at times, you will contradict your own words and you will change opinions and perspectives constantly lmao. So having people try to sway your thoughts, or subtly spoil things for you to make you change your mind, kind of defeats the purpose of the show 😅
Anyhow, can't wait for the next episode, keep it up!
Any conversation about an established piece of art is going to have "spoilers". It is just part of observing. Nothing is ruined if the reactor just keeps an open mind. Interpretation varies. I think he knows that.
@@donny1960 absolutely, I specifically mean the people that were giving out huge spoilers and using them as arguments or disguising them as opinions in order to change his mind; aka, those who can't stand watching someone have their own opinion 💀
the acting is wild and great ......................great casting by the producers
Really enjoying your reactions and commentary on the show! Can't wait for your reaction to episode 4!
Sadly he wouldn't have been able to balance his family life. Because they would have noticed the preternatural aspects.
Maybe I misunderstood you, but I think you talked multiple times now about becomming a vampire slows the ageing process. But Vampirism doesn't slow ageing down, it stops it completely.
On the topic of the DPDL family, I got the feeling that the thing he's doing wrong is not being quiet enough. His mother was fine with the money that supports them all coming from brothels as long as she didn't have to think about it, but Louis is more of a public face now. And more importantly, she was cool with just not facing up to her firstborn son very pointedly not getting married as long as the only thing being said around town about WHY that might be was his seeing Lily on a regular basis, but now he's been living with his pretty french 'business partner' for seven years, and like Antoinette said, people are talking. Like, Louis says here that Lestat took everything when he turned him and don't get me wrong, Lestat took A LOT, but most of what he lists aren't problems that come from being a vampire. I think things could have been better with Grace if he'd been able to visit his nieces (and nephew provided he didn't eat him? It's so unclear), but Paul was unwell and didn't have the greatest support system even by 1910s standards, his mother jumped on the first excuse she had to turn on him because she thought he was immoral at the core just for existing, and the Azalea is the victim of racist laws and lawmakers.
27:32 "Bad daddy".....I may have blacked out. I'mjustsaying!
Re: joining the Lestat stans, welcome to the party!
Claudia is my favorite ❤
Polyamory is the higher difficulty form of relationship over monogamy, at least in the world most Western audiences live in now, and i don't think it's wrong to say so. You need BETTER skills in communication, self-awareness, accountability, when you have more than one partner to interact and share some kind of engagement with- if you want to try do it ethically and with the least amount of pain for everyone involved. Takes work, practice, maturity, a system everyone can agree on beforehand, and during, and requires adjustment and change. And even then, people get it wrong.
Lestat and Louis don't have the skills to keep their one single relationship healthy :') pulling more folks into the mix is irresponsible and a terrible idea, but that's the point of it as a plot beat😅 Lestat is sick of Louis' moping and existential angst and the affect of the animal diet on his libido (so, Antoinette), and Louis gets sick of Lestat's hypocrisy and cavalier attitude towards his feelings (therefore, Jonah, who easily relates to him). Lestat doesn't get so many really important things for Louis - race, humanity, sexuality, his living family, his first kill, Paul - because it's all old news for Lestat at this point, he's like 100+yo. He's worked through most of his moral dilemmas about drinking human blood, he has no human family left, he has no business to run. For him, it's simple, because it's all already resolved. And his difficulty in empathising with others fully, makes Louis's behaviour confusing (and interesting, attractive, but mostly just frustrating.) He tries, because I do think he loves Louis and wants him happy, but it's a doomed effort from him imo.
Tldr: all these vamps need therapy STAT
Daniel's lines about memory actually come from " A Prayer for Owen Meany" by John Irving
" memory is a monster......we think we have memory but it has us" 😊
The Polyamorous life style is not for everyone....rules , respect and honesty are the only way to partake in it.
you just have to keep in mind that most if not ALL the characters suck. both in the series and the source material. do not let lestat apologists intimidate you (and i love lestat, but these people are something else). in season 3 there's gonna be another character who is, in my opinion, the worst character ever and he has people who defend him and his apologists will intimidate whoever doesn't like them or whoever is slightly critical of them. my favorite character is one that hasn't been introduced yet and he is AWFUL, fucked up, broken and a monster (so is lestat, when they tell his backstory you'll understand better), but i won't come here and tell you that he isn't a monster because he is! they all are! i think people don't know how to appreciate complex characters without putting them in boxes of good or evil.
Oh man, off-topic but if the worst character in the world is the one I think you mean, I never even considered he'd have apologists in real life. 😨 I love most of the characters so much regardless of how terrible they and their myriad of crimes are, but I am fully willing to fight anyone who wants to defend THAT one in the street, any time any place. 😂
@@ErieMaxwell social media is FILLED with his apologists and they're disgusting too :( we are gonna have a hard time when he gets to liveaction
Lestat is a lot, lol He cheats on Louis in front of him, then laughs in his face when he asks if he's enough :( After allowing Louis to have an open relationship, too, he follows and watches Louis with Jonah; he gets jealous. That alone is creepy .. then again, he's been stalking him since episode 1. I think they need marriage counseling because their communication is terrible :(
He didn't have 20 children, that was the composer lmfaooooo
when u wanna fix your marriage or feel less guilt so you get a child
50:02 - 😂 All fair points made. However, attraction is not necessarily the same thing as actually liking someone as a person at all; and the prick can actually sproing up sometimes just because it is designed to respond to physical or other stimuli and such, even if/when there literally is no attraction or other feelings there, and the exact degree to which it does or doesn't can/does differ somewhat from one individual person to another. Nevermind the way that physical intercourse can sometimes be used as an expression of intense/violent/powertripping feelings, not only as an expression of those more tender and loving or otherwise positive feelings it is stereotypically associated with. But, yeah, honestly....you're completely right, interpersonal relations and feelings can get quite messy even just in monogamy nevermind in anything else/more, and the more individuals and feelings involved the more possibility there is for it all to spin out of control or get just completely out of hand. Anyone who manages to find any partner[/s] plural or singular with whom they make it all work happily and contentedly has my respect and commendations, too.🙂
Loving the channel and all your reacts! 😊
YESS i’m so excited for your reactions they always eat
I feel like Lestat really would have been okay with Louis sleeping with other people, as long as that was all it was. He probably fealt threatened when he saw that Louis had a hustory with the guy, and maybe he imagined that Louis still had lingering feelings for him.
Honestly though, I think Lestat's decision of an open relationship makes sense. I mean, having sex with the same person for 50, 100, 200 years? Sex is good, but you can only get so creative, and I can imagine you would probably get bored at some point. So yeah, I think him laughing when Louis asked whether he was enough was just him being incredulous/amused at Louis' youthful naivete (for a vampire). I mean, Lestat was at least a century old at this point right? He has to have had several previous relationships/partners.
