When I was much younger and moved to California, one of my first jobs was to rebuild 237, 9 cylinder R-1340 wasp engines. Went on to rebuild many 14 cylinders and 28 cylinders. They were amazing engines really fantastic engineering. Great stuff keep it up love watching your channel. Mvh Rock Crusher.
Bigger flywheel, an automatic governor where your throttle lever just controls a set point for RPM and the governor varies the throttle blade to maintain it, some cooling ductwork, and it would cut a hell of a lot better. Sounds amazing though!
The engine is to heavy for this chassie. I will look for a chassie from a Riding lawn mower. Put an electric starter on it and fix the cooling. I refuse to have a governor.
All small 4-stroke engines have a governor on them; to prevent over-revving that can destroy them, and stops them bogging down when under-load. And that exhaust looks unhealthy as the clapper is pointing the fumes into your face 😶🌫️, it should have a muffler on each of those short exhaust pipes = will constrict the exhaust flow to give better performance? and make it quieter; I can’t imagine how many decibels that is making 😖 sounding like a vintage aeroplane
@@samuelfellows6923 That's why I mentioned a governor as well. There's a reason these tools typically have one. It's useful for the application. 'Tis fine to have a throttle...in fact preferrable...but that throttle should be setting the governor target, not acting directly on the carb. Directly connecting throttle to carb is only really useful on a gokart where you don't mind the chance you might pop the engine(Or have upgraded it to handle higher revs) and where you don't really need it to automatically add/remove power to hold a set RPM like you would a lawn tool.
I would agree regarding flywheel mass. My other suggestion is a deck capable of handling a 40" steel blade...lots of inertial benefit in the tall grass too!
I bet your neighbors love you. My dad was once told that our lawnmower sounded like a plane that couldnt take off. This one sounds like it might take off.
Absolutely love the sound of that monster. I am very impressed that it even runs as well as it does. I would have no clue how to machine the parts to make that let alone add an electric starter. Keep up the amazing work and I cannot wait to see what happens with this one in the future.
Just a man and his mower. Grow up in the 80s helping my grandfather work on all the locals mowers when they needed fixed or a tune up. Rip, "Peace Pap" ✌️
What a great idea! 😂👍 - e-start - put a muffler of a Toyota Yaris on (with a modification of the exhaust tube) that will re-direct the exhaust gases down and to the side (away from your face) - finetuning of the chassis 😃👍
Bloody Awesome !!!! Sounds so good - really really sweet sound - keep up the good work - look forwards to the E-start and good idle with engage drive at the wheels with remote control 👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👍👍👍👍😅😅😅🙏👍👍
Replace the cord and use a spring wound crank. Wind up the spring with a release button. No need for battery, starter, wires and switch. To keep your design simple. Small diesel engine uses this method.
With those long intake runners, you might want to heat the plenum directly below the carb to ensure that the fuel stays atomized. VW had to do this with their air cooled carburated engines.
Gday, great to see you back on the radial again and it sounds fantastic especially at idle, truly can’t wait to see where this goes next mate, great job as always, cheers
@@Desmouffe as a thought maybe you could find a old antic small kinda lawn tractor to drive around and show off the engine, even on of those rear engine sort
All this mower needs now is a Turbo....just to keep it quiet and get it thru that longer grass in one hit ! I'd be making damn sure that blade is screwed on tight. Love your work. I think the intake plenum needs more volume for when the blades get loaded up. May need some sort of governor setup like the briggs mowers have. The tractor flap on the exhaust made me laugh. Good luck with it and happy mowing!!😁👍👌
Just found this build 😎 It’s Awesome 👏 Suggestions: Nice fan shroud Individual carbs (yours not enough flow) 5 lawnmower mufflers Maybe a bigger (heavier) flywheel (older iron one) Awesome you cut the grass at the end ! 👍👍😂
I got a yard man mower off a coworker Never seen one before. Just walk up and slap the lever and she fires Amazing technology. It’s truly a crime that cars do not have inertia starters.
I bet that one doesn't bog down in tall grass ! Maybe a little back pressure exhaust constriction such as a small tractor muffler will help it at low rpm
Yes it does. Building an engine creates many problems that has to be solved and cooling is easily forgotten. This engine will get a new home on a riding mower chassie and then it will get some kind of shroud for the fan
Just the kind of lawnmower you want to start up in the residential area,
on an early Sunday morning. 😄👍
**me lookin to the sky for the germans**
How about midnight, any night of the week.
😂
I would do it if my neighbors were a-holes.
Notice only women complain about mowing early .
@@HamburgerAmy dont worry we germans dont do this anymore. Our generation has enough to do to figure out what gender they want to have today XD
Radials don’t get enough love, awesome to see some love here
That deserves at least a 36" deck. Awesome.

Best sounding lawnmower I have ever heard. Love a radial.

It sounds like it has a lumpy cam !! So good !!
You built what I’ve been dreaming of for the past thirty years. The sound is nothing less than music.
I never thought I would see a lawnmower that looks like it was built for the Red Baron!
I closed my eyes and thought it was a film clip from 1914...
This guy has just been spotted mowing clouds over Dusseldorf.
You have trained me to click without hesitation on any video you release. They always surprise and entertain me. Thank you!
A very humble guy, never gets excited until he saw the RPM could go low and stay there at 3:37 or so😃.
Hell yeah, the sound is sweet!
Makes mowing your yard sound like the county fair tractor pull. Love it!
I bet your neighbors love you. My dad was once told that our lawnmower sounded like a plane that couldnt take off. This one sounds like it might take off.
I get along very well with ny neighbors thank you. These machines are just for fun. I cut my grass with an ordinary mower
Damn thats beautiful
Coolest walk behind lawnmower I've ever seen! I'm now fighting the urge to go back and watch videos on how you got here.
Don't fight it, brother
Your engine is wonderfully balanced, and you are wonderfully eccentric. Bravo.
Thank you (I think)
Jacobson used a blade in the seventies that was a large disk with four outer blades. Massive torque amplifier. Very cool work sir!
Still used on Victa mowers in Australia.
"This channel is FREE from beautiful girls in tights doing yoga." The best line I've EVER read in a channel description!

Officially the coolest lawn mower Ive ever seen!!
The couple 2 blocks away: "Are the war planes coming again sweety?" Husband:"Ol Lucky must be mowing dear..."
Ha - the engineering wizzard directs exhaust fumes toward his face. Love the spirit. Subscribed.
Idles down beautifully. Looking forward to the electric start and more robust chassis!
Once I saw the pull start, I knew you were a great man!
My lower back does not agree with you. I need something else..
Completely insane; I love it, and you can even get high on the fumes just by mowing!
What a great idea! 😂👍
- e-start

Fantastic project.
Instead of an electric start, an air starter might be a very cool add on and quite period appropriate for a radial engine.
Sounds interesting. I will read more about it
Amazing 🎉🎉🎉Definitely Man of Genius 🎉🎉🎉
Wicked cool! The foot pedal for assisting in starting is the chef's kiss, as it were. Outstanding.
Yes, but it still not enough...
This dudes neighbors must love him lol
Not necessarily
"Baby got brrrap". sounds amazing
That's the best sounding mower I have ever heard
You won't see this thing flying off of any store shelves 😮
Just found this, now I got to go watch the whole series!
Enjoy...
Fantastic.
I love it when people have ideas and the ability to make those ideas reality, no matter how different they may be from the mainstream.
That's just TOO cool! Hope you get things figured out :)
Glad you made it back on video👍
Hover mowers can provide, a good amount of lift. If you could achieve enuff rpm. Happy days👍😅
All fun and games until your lawn mower either becomes a helicopter or time travels to fight off Japanese zeros or fight in the battle of Britain lol
I’m glad you were pull starting it and not me. 😂
Well, today I have pain in my lower back. It needs an electric starter
This would be awesome to fire up on a Saturday morning at dawn and start cutting the front yard. The neighbors would love it.
Not for me either
Imagine that beast running on nitromethane!
That is a pretty cool build.
Turn that into a cement finisher. LOL, Exciting project, I enjoy your series's's' on your projects. I can't wait for the next one.

Rev er up mate, she might take off.!!!Australia 🇦🇺
put that on a lawn tractor 😂 that sick heck a racing tractor pulling 360s n what weee
awesome build 👍
the exhaust stack ....nice
Yes, it will probably get a new home
Awesome job ! 👍
First time I’ve seen this beast of a machine, it’s awesome!.
Cleared for takeoff runway 25. Love it glad to see this.
Replace the cord and use a spring wound crank. Wind up the spring with a release button. No need for battery, starter, wires and switch. To keep your design simple.
Small diesel engine uses this method.
That will take a quite powerful spring. It's hard to crank.
4:31 it sounds like a warbird taxing to the runway
I would love to have Mr. Mekaniska as my neighbor.
Then we could have some fun...
😂😂😂I freaking Love it!!!
Regards from Denmark
Expected that lawnmower to start lifting itself from the ground any moment
Would Love to see that motor on a 36 in. walk behind commercial frame... Love the exaust stack!!!
With those long intake runners, you might want to heat the plenum directly below the carb to ensure that the fuel stays atomized. VW had to do this with their air cooled carburated engines.
I have been told that from others and Ihave to consider that...
With a muffler, it would have a really nice mellow, rolling sound
Yes it needs a muffler and a slightly longer collector pipe
That's some tough grass to be drowning out that engine!!!
Fascinating! Look forward to the next installation.
I use a cordless Milwaukee hole hog drill, with an inline ratchet, for starting my air cooled diesel engines. Cheers!
Gday, great to see you back on the radial again and it sounds fantastic especially at idle, truly can’t wait to see where this goes next mate, great job as always, cheers
Thank's. I have a lot of other things to do right now but if I stumble over a suitable chassie I might be back...
Awesome build! Subscribed for more!
Thank you, we will see what's happening in the future
might wanna wear some muffs! beautiful! grandpas got the coolest lawnmower!
The neighbors will be thrilled, I love it. 😁
I need one like this, my neighbor is an idiot.
This is perfect. 👌
This is amazing content, and I have worked out that this gentleman does not like grass 🤔😂
That made it really sound neat, better than the short pipes I think
Yes, and I can run it on idle to.

This is awesome, the best lawn mower I have ever seen !!!👍👍
Remind me of the cylinder swap firing order of the small block Chevy
That is one beautiful machine! I hope you consider making an update after running the v8 a while.
It deserves a propeller, I love the engine.
gorgeous sound! you are a mad wizard in the best way haha. your exhaust looks an awful lot like a temple-cage to the holy radial. love it!
Well, I'm not very good with pipes...
Putting a radial in a lawn mower would never have come in my mind 😂😂😂
This is awesome. I love the sound of it.
When you got it iddle for couple of seconds, it sounded like radial aero engine on helium :D
I think you need heavier fly wheel.
Glad to see you back. Please keep making videos

That had such a cool note to it. Be interesting what you come up with for a new body.
It would be nice to have a governor and do more mowing. Possibly a pull behind mower for the V8 tractor.
Nice rig, it'll be ausom to see it progress.
The music of a radial! ❤️
It looks like that thing could fly to Mars
It sounds and looks awesome. Great job.
Thank you
WONDERFUL
INVENTION . PUT A LITTLE CHAIN TO ANY TWO WHEELS , SO THAT IT GOES OFF ITS OWN WITH ONLY WALKING MANPOWER .
That thing looks so heavy it's leaving ruts in the ground
Yes, and the chassie looks good but it's old, rusty and cracked. So let's find a new home for it.
Just found this build 😎
It’s Awesome 👏
Suggestions:
Nice fan shroud
Individual carbs (yours not enough flow)
5 lawnmower mufflers
Maybe a bigger (heavier) flywheel (older iron one)
Awesome you cut the grass at the end ! 👍👍😂
It's under development. Much of what you suggested I'm sure will happen..
It sounds awesome. I hope to see you develope it further.
Sounds like a Sherman tank. 👍
I truly hope you go through with the build.. ill definitely be watching
Please make an Inertia starter, would fit so perfectly on your little radial and it is really cool !
I got a yard man mower off a coworker
Never seen one before.
Just walk up and slap the lever and she fires
Amazing technology.
It’s truly a crime that cars do not have inertia starters.
Interesting thought...
@@fastinradfordable This Sounds Like a Spring Starter or Spring Force Starter but cool either way!
I got to fly in a 1941 Stearman last year, your mower sounds a lot like it.
Then I must have done something right...
I need this engine on my walk behind tiller Cultivator machine.
I bet that one doesn't bog down in tall grass ! Maybe a little back pressure exhaust constriction such as a small tractor muffler will help it at low rpm
This would make for an excellent engine for a large model aircraft or maybe even a homemade homage torpedo boat? there radial powered ones
Tha machine is a beautiful beast.
Who needs a airplane when you have a lawnmower?!
This is awesome! However I whink you will run into overheating/cooling issues with long time use. There's no fan blowing the fins.
Yes it does. Building an engine creates many problems that has to be solved and cooling is easily forgotten. This engine will get a new home on a riding mower chassie and then it will get some kind of shroud for the fan
