I've done this on 2 different 98 Camrys and it makes it a lot easier to just remove the front tire and just get under the car to remove the bottom bolt is easy to see what you're doing and less of a struggle.

@@dustinpomeroy8817. For the top bolt yes, for the bottom one I bought the special 14 mm wrench at autozone for 7 dollars and it save me the hustle of removing the tire and using vise grip pliers to remove bottom bolt, the key is to remove the air filter housing and the intake hose just take pictures to make sure you put everything back the same way, it was the third time for me doing this job and because of the line wrench I save myself time and a lot of cursing from struggling to remove the bottom bolt.

@@dustinpomeroy8817. Yes that's what I meant, I did 2 1998 camrys and I had to remove the tire so I can get under the car with a vice grip pliers because I didn't have the 14 mm line wrench and I couldn't get enough leverage from the top to break it loose, so just a couple of months ago I decided to do this on another camry that 1 bought 2 years ago and the line wrench not only gave me good leverage but I was able to tell that I had it placed in the correct spot, it was worth the 8 dollars I spent for it at autozone, sometimes is better to have the right tools it saves you time and frustration and a lot of unnecessary cursing lol. And of course I was able to loosen the 14mm nut from the top no need removing the tire and going under the car.

96 Camry owner with 128K. Fl car. No rust. Lead mechanic at Toyota recently stated not to goof with it unless it is showing issues. He looked at it and was going to do it per my request and then backed away. Must be a major headache to mess with. Dude got a ton of experience too. Superb mechanic in my eyes. Long live the Camry 👍😊

It isn't 'goofing', it is a part of maintenance: watch?v=cR05qq0pA78
That's why you don't always listen to mechanics and instead use your brain and do it yourself.

This was a tough job at least on my car. Even though I used the correct flare wrenches it was very difficult to remove the lower line. Stripped the nut towards the end but managed to tighten the same nut when installing the new filter using vice grips. Thankfully no leaks. Not a job I'd want to repeat. My car is a 1997 Celica with the 2.2 5sfe engine with 231,000 miles. How Toyota claim this is a lifetime filter is beyond me, for kicks I cut open the old one and it was filthy inside, not even sure if it was the original. Hoping I no longer get the slight hesitation going uphill especially on the highway, if I do probably time for a new fuel pump.

They way over tighten at the factory. What you cant see is that the threads on the fitting have actually been flared from being so tight. They sell a fitting to go on the filter. I cut the pipe and use fuel hose and clamps to put new one in

Thanks for the video! My 97 Camry started sputtering last week and was hard to start. Got a CEL P1133 shortly after I started driving. My Dad, a old school gearhead suggested to replace the fuel filter first since it's probably the original one before purchasing an expensive A/F sensor. Will be replacing the fuel filter this weekend and see if that fixes it. Did check the Air/Fuel sensor with a Ohm meter and checked out okay with normal resistance. Keep you posted on my findings.

@@Jamie-tj9fn Hi Jaime! Further investigation revealed that the A/F sensor installed by previous owner was not the correct A/F sensor for the 97 Camry. I replaced the fuel filter anyway since it looked original and installed the correct p/n and pricey Denso A/F sensor. No further issues and passed the dreadful California smog 😁

I'm in the process of changing mine but it got a bit stuck. I thought it started to come off but I accidentally put a kink in the line directly under the filter.
I've sought a replacement connector but each one I've bought doesn't fit right.
Could you recommend me one that actually fits this filter?
The ones I found online are all a piece of line, the moveable nut, and then a flat end with an o ring.
Looking at the new filter, I'm starting to think it's not supposed to be a flat opening with an o ring. But rather something like a needle that sticks inside the filter a bit, with a rubber seal.
The kink is only about 2 or 3 inches.

I just did this on my 98 with the original filter. Decided to cut it open and realized I wasted my time. It was perfectly clean upon unraveling the filter media. I’d say this is unnecessary unless you have debris or a bad tank of gas.

A new filter is $20-$30 and they really aren’t hard to change at all. That’s cheap insurance against a dirty original filter. Most original filters are not going to be clean

Hi I'm trying to install the new fuel filter on the 2000 Camry 2.2l the filter came with two copper washers. The one fits fine on the bolt to connect the top. Now the bottom washer is the same size as the top. But washer seems too small for the bottom. The bottom washer will not fit, like it's too small. I can not tighten the bottom nut if the new copper washer is put on. This the fourth evening I'm struggling with this fuel filter. The bottom was so rusted and just tight. It's the original fuel filter. Car has 200k miles. The filter I bought looks the same. It's a Bosch from Rock auto. Any ideas. HELP 🆘🆘

The two washer go on the top area of the fuel filter. No washer at the bottom of the fuel filter.
So grab the top bolt. Slide a washer on to the bolt. Install the bolt on to the fuel line. Place a washer on top of the filter hole and install bolt with fuel line.

you might blow some crap up..Lol that was good. can a bad fuel filter cause misfire in cylanders? or clogged fuel injectors cause misfire..I just put new plugs. Thanks for input i appreciate it.

    • @hmpz36911
      @hmpz36911 2 ปีที่แล้ว

A lot can cause misfireing. If did plugs & still doing, wires would be next. If you can determine which cylinder is misfiring you can trouble shoot easier.
Quick test for fuel issues (& possibly extend time & help other issues) Add a can of Seafoam in tank (higher consintrat than the 1oz/1g - {you can run car on 100% so no worries on too much} Can clean containemnts etc from tank/filter/injectors-system etc)
Read up on it. Tis great stuff. Misfires, sputtering, stalling & starting issues resolved. Yet still plan to replace filter as soon as weather breaks for full measures...

Tried to watch this and follow the steps but how you show each step is very sloppy. Have no idea what you are pointing at, referring to and doing. You say just pop this off and pull this here but we can't even see you doing it. Camera is all over the place also. If you assume everyone knows what you are talking about then you are catering to professionals who wouldn't even need this tutorial.
