    Just did this job on a 94 Camry and it was difficult but manageable. Hats off to anyone that does it, be proud of your work and remember to take a break when things aren’t going your way. Thanks for the video!!!

    I am impressed by the professional details, like keeping the bolt clean, the loosened fuel line clean with a clean plastic bag, etc. Also great is Peter did not go too fast. Excellent video! Thank you, Peter!!

    Two tricks for you. 1)The nut underneath can be hard to loosen. Use your 14 and 19 at the same time underneath the filter leave a 3" gap and squeeze them together, works like a charm, do the same to for tightening the last few turns.
    2) put a line on top of the upper screw that aligns with the hole where the gas goes through, there is a small adjustment possible when you re-install and that way you can make sure the max fuel flow goes through.

      what do you mean use your 14 and 19 at the same time im guessing wrenches why not just use his method of one I would use 2 the 14 and 19 if i would understand what your saying... are you saying both wrenches fit the flare nut on the bottom or use a 19 on top and a 14 on the bottom like hes doing im really confused

    • @deek3048

      Use 19 like Peter does, use 14 WRENCH not a socket. Leave gap and squeeze

      So pit the 14mm at 7 o'clock and the put 19mm at 6 o'clock then squeeze. ❤

    Stating the obvious that you didn't align the bracket on top for the gas line and didn't seem to use the two new gasket washers. But thanks for a very detailed explanation of all possible problems r/r the gas filter. Also, like the comment below about marking the top bolt so you can get maximum flow of gas.

      I was going to say the same thing, The fuel line bracket at the top was not correctly installed. It needs to be rotated 180 degrees. Also, I had to turn the volume down at watch at double speed...

    Got it the bottom bolt loose Peter. Finally. Went and bought a set of line wrenches, PB BLASTER,and a very small wire brush and just kept spraying and cleaning rusted bottom 14mm bolt. Lined up the 14mm line wrench and the 19mm that's part of the fuel filter. Off set both wrenches about 8 degrees and squeezed very hard and pop it came loose. Yes💯

  • @rkgsd
    @rkgsd 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    This is a great demonstration. You even show which direction to turn the wrench to disconnect the old filter which is important in order to avoid bending the fuel line. I would only add that a 14mm flare nut wrench helps too because it can grip the bottom nut better.

    This is by FAR the best and most hilarious toyota fuel filter replacement video on internet. (russian accent)
    Before wrenching on the filter, on some cars you may also remove the EFI fuse (fuel pump fuse) and crank the ignition- which should remove fuel pressure without starting the car.

    Thanks Peter, you made it look easy but this can be one hell of a difficult job. Just got through removing the old fuel filter on my '97 Celica. The lower fuel line was very very tough to remove, even with the recommended flare wrench. As soon as it stops raining will be out there to finish tightening up the new one, praying it does not leak because this seems to be a common issue on Toyota forum boards! If it does I will need to think of a plan B. How Toyota think this is a lifetime filter is beyond me, my car has 231,000 miles, for kicks I cut open my old filter and it was filthy inside, not even sure whether it was even the original one. How the fuel made it's way through the dirt and grime is beyond me!

  • @diannewill5763
    @diannewill5763 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    It may also pay to check that you have the filter facing the correct way when you put it back in the bracket and tightening the 10mm bolt, so that the fuel line can rest on the little cut-out that's made for it at the top of the filter... (like it was on the original filter before it was removed).

    Thanks for the video -- it is very helpful and shares some good principles that can be applied more universally. I do want to mention that the filter's upper fuel line guides were installed opposite the fuel line. IOW, the filter was installed 180 degrees out from an optimal install. The upper line is supposed to pass through the "U" shape (that looks like a large gun sight). I'm not sure how much it matters, though.

    This how-to video is quite good: it is thorough, well shot with a very steady camera, and well instructed, giving lots of good advice for best results. It it both easy to see all of the parts and bolts and easy to hear the instructions (Our guide's accent may be a tad challenging for some but I enjoyed it.) My one, very minor criticism is that it could be edited a little tighter to make the video move along more quickly. If you want to learn how to replace a fuel filter on a 1991 to 2002 Camry, you couldn't do much better.

    Always do bottom first, its hard to get out , and can twist the line. Keep bracket on and top line for more strength....to be honest it is in a bad spot i have cut one off before and put in barb and rubber hoses instead... Much easier to replace.

    2nd video of yours I've watched in 15 minutes and you do NOT know - as I do NOT know or remember - exactly where the 2 copper compression rings are placed. Everybody is vague, wrong or just skips over it! The best tip was a guy said he eyeballed where the banjo bolt orifice lined up with the fuel inlet and placed the rings accordingly to best make a smooth straight flow. I even have the official repair manual and it is not covered (but, I'm gonna go check again...)!

  • @ciudadanubis
    @ciudadanubis 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    The position is wrong. Under the label there is anothet bump that position the filter 180 degrees so the fuel pipe is holded by these two upper flaps. These flaps holds the metal pipe in the right position so the fuel bolt (the one that has a hole in the center and a hole through) keep aligned with the hole.
    Thanks for the video. It was very useful.

But then again, there always are 2 compression rings included with a new filter kit...so if you know for sure where the 2nd one goes I'd be a thankin' ya!

The car will run fine for 40 minutes or longer or less. Then the problem occurs. The car will cut out for a second. Hiccup. It might do it several times or just once. Peter I put one bottle of dry gas in the tank. Also I put fuel injection cleaner in the gas tank also. No luck. I sprayed fuel injection cleaner in the intake with the rubber part of. Wiped the inside of the housing out and cleaned the butterfly times. Used more than a spray can of cleaner in the intake area. It's t process of elimination. I checked the spark plugs and in number one cylinder the oil is bypassing the oring seal,but no oil is on the electrode. It's nice and clean. But I changed all four plugs out. Still have to change valve cover gasket and oring seals. The problem does not seem like it electrical. No backfiring. And the car never completely shuts down. But I want to fix the problem. Im open to take them....Thanks

      I think of course I did it wrongly because it was my first time, I put too much force for unplugging the input pipe

    Wouldn't it be easier to leave the bracket attached to the car and just loosen the bolt that keeps the holds the filter tight and then pull it up?

    • @deek3048
      @deek3048 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      DEE K I found out that you can't pull it through but it makes sense to loosen the bottom screw and the side screw while still attached to the frame.

    I also worry about using a non-Toyota filter for something like this. They look the same on the outside be we don't know the quality of the filter paper inside. compared to Toyota's filter which costs 2 or 3 times more.

      rkgsd Hello, you are right. The Toyota original part only last 15 years. These copy products last one year.

      Peter Finn I used a brand called NPN. Made in Japan. It even came with a new mounting bracket. Apparently they are an original part supplier (at least for fuel filters) for several Japanese auto companies including Toyota. They should last the same amount of time.

      Hi, have you check your spark plugs. Are they wet ?

    • @creativestudio4873
      @creativestudio4873 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Any luck with your car? You can take the fuel filter off and have someone crank it to confirm that the fuel pump is working. Obviously put the one end into a glass bottle to catch any gas that comes out... this is just to make sure its pumping and not just making noise like it is... if you do have gas come out, id check to see if theres spark.... take a plug off the spark plug and put it next to grounded area... if you have spark then it could be spark plugs.. or even the wires...are they old?

    The inlet flange on the filter is too long for the fule line to seat into the filter and gas leaked all over.

    Damn is it really that difficult for the video to be 36 minutes long? I had a TS Astra, all I did was unscrew it off the underside of the vehicle and pop the ends off and swap.
    I thought being an older Camry, something like the fuel filter woulda been an easy job :( I'm going to pay someone to do this for me lol
