  • This tiny X86 SBC is a Mini Emulation monster and it even has enough power to play PS3 and WiiU games!
    In this video, we test out some of our favorite emulators on this ASRock Industail SIngle board computer NUC board powered by an 11th gen Intel Tiger lake i5 1135G7 running at up to 35 watts!
    It offers some very impressive performance when it comes to emulating SEag Saturn using The Beattle Core in RetroArch, PSP using PPSSPP, PS2 with PCSX2, Gamecube, and Wii using the dolphin emulator, 3DS using Citra, and even PS3 using RPCS3 and Wii U with CEMU!

    My favorite thought about this box is, according to it's specs, it has an NVME running at pcie x4 and another running x1. so moving the ssd to the x1 pcie slot, and running an external gpu to the x4 slot, it theoretically could become a very capable little gaming machine and one of the only ways to enjoy desktop gaming from a 10nm 11th gen since for some reason the desktop 11th gen parts were all 14nm

    Now we have this tiny little SBC with a dinky little laptop cooler on it ploughing through Demon's Souls and Breath Of The Wild without an eGPU giving it a booster seat.

    $450 with the box, no ram or hdd included. At the end of the day you’ll still pay $700, which puts it squarely in the range of these mini PCs we’ve seen. It’s not bad but it’s not great either. I think the Xbox Series S at $300 is a far better bargain. This would be a great upgrade over the RPi4, but it’s so much more expensive that I just don’t think it’s worth it. It’s neat in principle, but unless you have very specific needs and desperately desire that form factor, it’s just another piece of hardware that’s either too expensive or not powerful enough.

    • @sovo1212

    • @rangerjoe126

      @@rangerjoe126 You can use emulators on the Xbox too, but you have to PAY for the developer mode. And by doing that, you just get an extremely limited low performance mode. It has the muscle to move Switch or even PS3 games, but you can't because of Microsoft's shenanigans.

    Pretty impressive! Do you think the TigerLake APUs are generally outperforming the Ryzen 4000g series regarding the integrated graphics?

    • @Deinorius
      @Deinorius 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In terms of gaming they're generally better than the Ryzen 4000 APUs. I'm not sure right now about the 5000 ones but even then it might need the high end parts with 8C16T. On the other side driver support is still better at AMD. If the emulators are working it's working on an emulator basis. For PC gaming there can be problems with single games. Hardware wise it's very important to use LPDDR4X memory. I'm quite impressed emulation works well enough with normal DDR4 memory but don't try to go full in into PC gaming, at least new PC games.
      The next thing in differences are the efficiency. Ryzen is generally more efficient IMO. For a NUC it doesn't really matter as you won't use it with a battery. With an Windows handheld like the Aya Neo or GPD Win 3 I see advantages for Ryzen when setting lower TDPs. And they can be cheaper still.
      4C/8T are still enough for most things in this formfactor if you don't want to game hard or render hard stuff. I would still wish AMD would release an gaming APU with less cores and maximum GPU cores.

    • @AJDOLDCHANNELARCHIVE
      @AJDOLDCHANNELARCHIVE 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Deinorius Yeah I don't expect an APU to do well in modern PC titles until at least DDR5 is available to alleviate the severe memory bandwidth restrictions that make integrated graphics horrendous in comparison to a dedicated GPU with GDDR6 or even GDDR5.
      I don't plan on picking up a system like this.. if I were I'd just get a cheap used X99 8 core Xeon and a cheap 4GB GPU and try and stick it in a small form factor case. Interested to see what the APU fight is like though. DDR5 should make things interesting late this year and next year.

    Why isn’t YUZU shown in this video? It was shown running just fine on the “PC Video” that was mentioned in the intro and posted a month prior, but wasn’t elaborated on or tested further here?

      I would like to know how the NUC11PHKi7C compares? I believe you can't send as much power to the CPU but then you have a discrete GPU.
