How can you possibly think that the block is an important part of hologram. You highly underrate the power of pulling cards out of the discard pile.

I strongly disagree on your explanation on Beam cell.
Artifact does not 'hard counter' beam cell. Beam cell hard counters artifact. You get to peel artifact off of enemies for ZERO mana.
What DOES artifact counter? Expensive cards like Bash.
But thank you for giving your reasoning. It helps illuminate to us why you make the decisions you do make. Though in cases like this, I feel you're underrating Beam Cell. He's a good boy that don't ask for much. In fact, he asks for zero mana to apply his vulnerabilities for you. Unlike that swindler Bash, who demands 2 mana.
Beam cell is a GREAT card. Its a slightly lower damage Bash for ZERO energy. If you are playing any defect deck with a lot of attacks (Claw, Steamline,All for One, Hyperbeam) its absolutely necessary.
Beam Cell's utility is that it's a good 1-of or 2-of for a deck that wants to occasionally do actual damage with attacks. Now, every Frost orb in the universe has conspired to tell me that's a bad idea on most occasions - Cold Snap, past the first floor, really is just a Frost orb engine - but there are decks where that still has some use.
Seeing NL sort of underrate Beam Cell, as arguably the most efficient Vulnerable source in the game besides Trip+, based upon a status _literally designed to negate negative status effects_ definitely felt just a few inches past alignment.
But hey, haha, at least he didn't give Charge Battery and Stack conspicuously low ratings or anything, haha.

Well the problem with beam cell is not the card, but the other cards. The only cards who deal with artifacts are beam cell and go for eyes. The other two chars have more cards which inflicts status effects, so there it is more consistent. A monster with 2 artifacts is probably killed by the defect before its artifacts are removed.
He underrates both Beam Cell and Go for the Eyes.
I like how even when he plays on his downtime. he says "we" won.

Fun fact: if you use recycle on an ‘X’ energy cost card, it gives energy equal to your current unspent energy. Using it this way is basically the same thing as Double Energy, except it exhausts an ‘X’ energy cost card while not exhausting the recycle card. It’s a pretty situational play, but since recycle+ is a fairly guilt-free include in most Defect decks, it’s a useful synergy to be aware of.

Beam cell is a 4. Its basically a slightly lower damage, un-upgraded Bash, for ZERO energy. If you are playing an All for One/Claw deck, its a huge enabler to kill elites quickely.

Ok, Barrage can do 0, and doing 18 is unlikely. Ball lightning on the other hand is guaranteed 7 and a channel lightning. The channeling is especially important - this helps to evoke, and synergises with lightning strike (or whatever it’s called) etc. Barrage has a much worse guarantee, the benefit coming from other supporting cards in less reliable situations. I could be completely wrong, but I agree with NL’s ratings for these two cards (even though I do disagree with quite a few of the others) :P

Meteor Strike and sunder are amazing with snecko eye. My first successfully run with Defect had 2 meteor strikes and snecko eye after the first boss and melted the rest of the game :)

Fission is terrible before upgraded, but once you upgrade it, it's fantastic. It's the frequent target of Seek or Bottled Lightning (Gambling Chip sifts, etc) in order to set up my powers early. Despite the pains before the upgrade, it's a must-take for me.

Highest level thumbnails
Hyperbeam is amazing in a plasma deck because plasma is unaffected by Focus, plus you generally have an excess of energy anyway so the cost isn't an issue. The best way to get it rolling is Turbo or Double Energy then Meteor. It also makes Reinforced Body an amazing card for block because you always have leftover energy. My dream deck would be Turbo+, Meteor, Fission+, Reinforced Body, Hyperbeam. Since getting rid of all your starting cards is really unlikely (and you'll be rolling a minimum of 6 energy per turn once you're full on plasma orbs), you probably want FTL, Compile Driver and/or Cold Snap for card draw, Seek+ or Hologram+ for digging, and probably an Equilibrium so it's easier to get Turbo and Meteor in the same hand.
Playing Meteor when you already have 3 plasma channelled actually _gives_ you 1 energy and deals 24 / 30 damage... it's insane.
Reprogram before the rework was... bad for me. I love the actual card effect of lose concentration in order to gain strength and dexterity
I love the reviews! I have a different playstyle, but I love the ''controversial'' opinions on some of these cards.
The ''Darkness'' build is the most difficult archetype to pull off reliably due to the lack of a consistent synergy between the cards. IMO, at least one or 2 extra cards would be necessary to make it more viable.
S tier: glacier, seek, echo form, creative ai, biased cognition.

Some things I'd agree with, some I wouldn't. I will say static discharge has never been tempting to me. I think things that give me lightning when I don't want it is bad. My preference is frost stalling to mitigate as much damage as possible, and then hitting with a massive blizzard. Failing that, charging up a dark orb is pretty nice too.

Cards he rates low are cards he doesn't take that work in builds he doesn't understand. Oh, and why look at the upgrade of any card you don't take automatically if it fits a favored build?
That said, I enjoyed this, but it frustrates me that we could have seen him see the light on different cards/builds (e.g. Recycle, energy+draw). Someone who has his ear tell him that when he does the Silent cards, s'okay to go another 20 minutes, look at every upgrade, and discuss synergies he doesn't use.
Reprogram is an amazing card! Scrape was right after it but he didn't realize the amazing synergy there?
Echo Fform is incredibly powerful if you can play your cards fast enough. Not every card allows you to use more energy than you have available. And playing cards fast enough cause all of the cards played fast enough to be Echoed as well.
Only now after a year do I realize that all 3 of these thumbnails have his favorite cards.

Leap being higher than charge battery doesnt seem right to me, but it somewhat does as well.
Im pretty sure ascension 20 requires all the health you can get, and the +1 energy may be not sometimes do much.
I think personally they should be about the same level, one being better in some situations.

I would actually like these rating videos after everytime you beat ascension level 20; and if you used the "out of x" system to describe your likelihood(percentage) of taking the card standalone or in a going archetype.
Your videos, as in per video, are excellent in quality and quantity. I particularly enjoy you playing this and Isaac because I learn about the the game and discover factoids. When you go on interesting tirades and rants, there's always something new and interesting, even after 5 million episodes of Isaac.
Excellent podcast, excellent video, good and well all around, and not everyone can do this this well.

I agree about Blizzard. It was really fun to devastate the 2nd floor boss with a 100+ blizzard. Then my deck fell to pieces on the third floor because my cold snaps took too long to build orb counts up for defense. I'd be covered in the last half of the fight but take a lot of dmg in the first half. You might say to just grab more blocks but you have to choose almost every frost card you see just to make blizzard worthwhile.
Every time he starts these videos with "I wanna play Slay the Spire but I don't wanna record myself all the time!" and I'm like:
"You could just go to the upper-left corner where your name is, click that little diamond up there, and make a new profile."

I had some thunderstrike decks where I oneshotted bosses with it, after I have summoned lots of lightnings lightnings through storm, static discharge and other powers
I JUST GOT ASCENSION 20!!!! It took me 2 months to get form ascension 19 to 20 but I finally got it.
Now I only need to make it with ironclad and silent then I am done :)

I wish streamline was universal so if you have 3 in hand it only costs 3 to play all 3 or if you are just going crazy and have a full hand first turn it only costs 3 for all that damage

Pretty confident he knows, and it's a decent card for what it's worth, but the upfront 2 energy then requires you to cycle your deck, play it again then cycle your deck AGAIN to get it to that point makes it lose appeal personally

@@NS-ev4ck fair point! I think why he gave it that score is because you have to already have a deck going that can support the card, making it not an "instant grab" if that makes sense. I use the card quite often myself
Honestly I feel like hologram is way better than how you rated it. It helps you draw your win conditions like all for one, or doubles up as an extra claw and stuff like that. I’d say it’s probably tier 3 personally, with a very common chance of being a 4/5

While I see the argument to be made there, it's often not 10 damage. It takes down all block an enemy has for free, and some (though certainly not all) enemies really love piling on that block.
