Bro!!! Thank you!! This is so incredibly detailed. I was originally just going to do the standard replacement antenna, but I’m definitely doing this now! Time to breathe some new life into my many G2 and G3 packs with damaged antennas!
Thanks, that was a super helpful video! I am getting RF interference hits on my Senn G3, so maybe the antenae upgrade would help. What kind of batteries do you use? I am using rechargable ones, and I wonder if they are causing signal problems. Thanks again!
Hi Jeff B! Thank you! I'm glad the video has helped you. The antenna upgrade will be a big help. However, be sure to get an adjustable antenna. That way you can adjust the orientation of the antenna 90 degrees, so that your receiver and transmitter antennas are parallel to each other. In regards to the batteries. I use Panasonic eneloop pro AA Rechargeable NiMH Batteries. I have used these batteries on half charge and I still get great signal. I know there is a big discussion about using non rechargeable batteries, but I think antenna orientation makes a bigger difference. I hope this helps. Cheers!
Very nice clear presentation. Can you explain why this is an "upgrade" though please? It looks like you replaced like for like and didn't change the configuration. Is this just in case an existing antenna has failed?
Hello Tim E, The reason for changing this antenna is to have the option to rotate the antenna on the receiver so that it matches the antenna direction on the transmitter. By doing this, it allows for a stronger signal. Also it makes it easier to swap out antennas if one were to get damaged. I hope this helps. Cheers!
One question I need to ask because i'm not sure I got it clearly understood after watching this video several time. RF signal improves significantly compared to stock antenna? Thanks for making the video!
Hello Alex Vlad, The biggest improvement over the stock antenna is the maneuverability. You can change the position of the receiver antenna to match that of the transmitter. This helps maintain a strong radio signal. This particular antenna does add overall quality improvements as well which helps with boosting signal. Also, if you use the silver plated wire, that will help too.
Thanks FRE for the kind words! Yes, as long as the external antenna fits the SMA fitting. If not, you would need to change the mounting hardware to make it fit. I would make sure to check with the FCC regarding the rules and regulations for using an aerial antenna with your receiver. I hope this helps. Cheers!
I’m missing a step I think? After washing the SMA connector… the wire just appears inside it. Am I pushing the soldered connector in until it seats fully from the bottom? Or just have to clean up the solder so it can push through the top white nylon bit?
Hi! This SMA antenna by AudioRoot sales for around $30.00 USD on Ebay. The company closed their ebay store. I have a link in the description to where you can contact them. Here is the link: www.audioroot.fr/product/uhf-sma-whip-antenna/ I hope this helps. Cheers!
Hello Dom1982, I know that if certain stickers are removed then it will void the warranty, but if you are just sending the unit in for paid-for (out of warranty) repair then I would call Sennheiser just to make sure. You can call their customer care at 1-(877)-736-6434. Hope this helps. Cheers!
How do I get an already cut sma connector so I can simply solder it into my g3 and g4 mics. I am in Uganda and don't have all the tools and don't wanna mess using a file to grind down on the connector. I would be glad to buy the connectors from someone who's already ground them down to fit into my receivers and transmitters. I need about 8 pairs. Thanks lots for the help.
Not sure if I missed something but would you also put the new antenna on the transmitter? Also could you attach the receiver to a passive aerial antenna like the sennheiser 2003?
Hello IVE595, It's possible. I read somewhere that it might be illegal to install an SMA swivel antenna on the transmitter. I can't confirm that source of information for sure though. However, I wouldn't recommend putting a swivel SMA antenna on the transmitter because usually the talents are wearing them and they could move the antenna out of position causing a higher chance for RF interference. In regards to your question about the aerial antenna. If it can connect to the same size SMA fitting on your Sennheiser receiver then it should work. If not, then you would have to reconfigure the mounting hardware. I would make sure to check with the FCC regarding the rules and regulations for using an aerial antenna with your receiver. Hope this helps. Cheers!
Hey everyone! I know this is a bit different from my normal TH-cam videos, but this is a project that I've wanted to share for a while now. Let me know in the comments any projects that you've accomplished lately. I'd love to hear your story. Cheers!
Hello Avenue Audiovisual! They used to have an Ebay store. That's where I purchased the antenna from. They no longer have their Ebay store, but they still have their website. Here is the link: www.audioroot.fr/ They are based in France. I believe if you email them they will help you out. I paid around $29.00 USD for the antenna. The build quality on the antenna is amazing! It's the best investment you can make for a wireless mic with a fixed antenna. I hope this helps. Cheers!
LOL!! You can use other wire strippers, but the Mil-Specs reduces the possibility of wire damage. You might be able to find a pair on ebay for a good price :)
Hello FoxtrotterMuse, If the circuit board and layout are the same then it is possible it could work. I would contact Sennheiser's technical department to make sure. I hope this helps. Cheers!
Hello Jack, Yes, this antenna mod could help with that. First I would check to make sure you're getting a clear frequency and that your gain settings are correct. I hope this helps. Cheers!
Hello Zac Acebu, I have listed all of the items in the video description. There you can click the links to purchase everything you'll need. For the antenna itself, try contacting the company. I've included the link to their website. They used to have an ebay story, but took it down. I hope this helps. Cheers!

You are very welcome baldwinvp! Thank you for the kind words! The new antenna will definitely bring your G2 and G3 back to life. Cheers! :)
Extremely clear explanation of how to do the SMA mod. Thanks
Thanks Christopher Wright! :)

Same here ... RF interference with f8 and g3
Great video. It is inexcusable for IEM makers to require disassembly and soldering to replace the one part that is sure to break.
Hello Mark Cole, I agree with you 100%. It should be a simple screw off old and screw on new, type of replacement
This is awesome! My G4s work pretty great already.

@@GarageDynamics Many many thanks. Looking forward to source the needed materials & will do the conversion on one bodypack for the start
This is incredible! Thank you so much for making this video!
Thanks Hurpa DeDurpa! I'm glad to be of service 😊
Nice video!!! Can you use external antenna???? Like Betso Bowtie omni antenna??? Please make a test!!!! Nice job

What a perfect tutorial video! Bravo
Could you please share the sheet for measuring the antenna?

Hello Bobby Shively, Yes, insert the wire through the nylon bit, and then solder the other end of the wire to the circuit board.
Hi, how are you .. What is the price of this device currently in US dollars?

Will Sennheiser still perform paid-for (out of warranty) repairs to a unit that's had an SMA mod?

@@GarageDynamics Thank you, I'll try that.
Great video. You can then use a cheeky 1w amplifier to do some serious range.
Thank you Ed Truckell! Yes! Very true :)
Can you link to an example of that product? The 1w amplifier
Solid mod.. I'm with you.. should be factory default..
Thanks bake.agency! I agree with you!

Nice mod. I have a Vocopro Digital it already has a SMA antennas. The warranty gets voided as well so do the mod after the warrantee is over.
Thank you Ernie! I agree, do the mod after the warrantee is over.

Could upgrade this to 1/2 wave antennas?
Hello DREAM DAY Charleston, With the right connection it should be possible. I would just make sure it complies with the FCC first.
Were you transmitting at 50mW?
i got that question too! My experience says that i have better results using the 50mW instead 30
I’ve been getting loud and inconsistent spells of static on the signal - could this help with that?
