    Brilliant video, thanks . I’m no mechanic at all, but followed your direction and new switch works a treat ! Local garages weren’t that interested in doing the job, probably would have cost a few quid too ! Thanks for your time and effort.

    • @L663
      @L663  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes i think garages are aware that they cannot charge much for doing this so they are not interested... shame as it they looked after customers on the "small" jobs we would be coming back for servicing and other jobs.

    Thanks for this, came in very helpful when my tailgate started opening on its own accord...solved the problem and probably saved a few hundred quid at the same time....

    You can just replace the switch only without the loom by unlatching the switch assembly from the outside of the vehicle with a thin screwdriver or drill the latches off. This negates having to take the tail panel off the vehicle. Just then need to cut the wires from the old switch and splice to the wires of the new switch and press the assembly back in place.

    Thanks a lot - took me no more than 30mins, and that included finding my 10mm socket :) turned out I could use an 11, which is good as I couldn't find my 10.

    On my car there was even one short extra cabel loom. Is it the reverse camera connection. Did not look like that. Do you have any smart solution. FL2 2008.

    Hi, I've seen various answers to this question but I hope you could help. I have a 2013 Range Rover sport (facelift model) with one trunk door as opposed to the glass opening separately. Is the tailgate switch LR020997 or the LR083610 the correct part for my vehicle? some have said the YUZ500020 but that is for the older models which could open the glass separately. Thank you for your help.

    • @L663
      @L663  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So the first models had LR020997 but this was superceded by part number LR079909
      The later one piece door type ( yours ) had PN LR042648 fitted but this was superceded by PN LR083610
      So you are better off with LR083610 which is actually also used on late Freelander 2 ! retail price is about £32 + Vat

    Love your videos helped with so many jobs on my Freelander 2.
    I have followed one of your videos and replaced my Tailgate Handle which was faulty. All good and easy enough to replace 😀
    I have a problem now where when I open the tailgate and try to lock the car, horn beeps and it won't lock. Also have a warning on dashboard saying "tailgate open" when it's closed. Problem fixes when I disconnect the battery terminal and reset, and car locks fine and no dashboard warning, until I open tailgate again 🙈
    Any ideas ?

    • @L663
      @L663  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There must be a switch that tells the tailgate its closed - this is most likely in the lock / clasp rather than anything to do with the release switch.

    Hi, i have a 2014 Feeelander2 Metropolis. The boot release button on the boot doesn't work - but oddly, it does but using the boot release button on my key??? Would I need this part for my 2014 model is is the issue something else? I will order what ever I need from you if you'd be kind enough to supply a direct link. Thanks

    Had a battery go flat overnight - one suggestion was faulty tailgate switch - as its never worked since I bought the car, I'm wondering if it could be - has anyone ever heard of this happening??

  • @simpleinverso8628

    I saw your other video where you remove it from the outside.
    Is there a way I can do that too, or do I have to take the whole tailgate panel out?

      I cannot see it being this - the most common cause is the heater resistor.
      There are some ideas on this forum post

    My 2008 LR2 tailgate latch keeps automatically unlocking, continually. Do you think the switch is the issue?

    • @L663
      @L663  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You could disconnect the switch and see if it still happens. You can still open the tailgate from the center dash. This way you can test your theory without spending any money.

    Why can't i find anyone replacing the lower ''Click Click Click'' boot open latch? It's by the looks a ''consumable part'' with a pressed plastic cog running against an Alloy cog. I'm going to attempt to grind drill out and replace the rivets holding the unit together with screws. I figure if the plastic teeth are worn i can flip the cog or depending on whether it closes in a 180 degree motion rotate the cog so it uses the unworn teeth or at worst replace the cog and fix it by bolting the unit closed. The electric motor still works fine, it's the plastic teeth that are worn. All these car companies claim to care about the planet blah blah ''wank wank'' when all they care about are sales and profit. There really is no reason the lower actuator cog on the Sport can't be a replaceable unit. But it's all pressed together to force replacement of the entire unit. when half of it is simply the metal latch with metal lever arms all press attached to the weakest plastic point that is going to wear out. If there is a vid link me to it or I'll record my own venture and share it.
