033//Anubis - a dark, self-generating track with minimal Eurorack (Moog Mother 32, Make Noise Maths)

- A dark, semi-self-generating patch using a small Eurorack setup sent through an Eventide Space hall reverb and an Eventide Timefactor on digital delay setting.
I combined 2 things in this patch that I've always wanted to do: a non-western scale, and that thing with the envelope where it starts fast and slows down over time when a note is played. Add that to a bit of FM and a dark bass, and 033//Anubis is born!
PATCH NOTES:
The melody comes from the higher M32, clocked randomly by the lower M32 and randomly reset. The envelope has a long attack and short decay, and this controls the decay time of a Maths LFO that modulates the filter cutoff; this gives the 'slowing down' pluck. An audio rate LFO adds FM to the melody, the amount controlled by another LFO.
The bass comes from the lower M32, which has a unique sequence: 15 rests followed by 1 note. This stops the bass changing note too often while letting the melody play faster. A gate from Maths modulates the pitch, giving a total of 4 possible notes, and the sequence is randomly reset. The M32's LFO modulates itself to create a saw wave LFO that modulates the filter cutoff, the amount of which is controlled by another LFO.
I've only described the main patch notes above; if you want to recreate this patch you can find it here:

Tension and RELEASE ✴️ the delays are magnificent
Sounds like figuring out a puzzle, where one wrong move blows everything to hell
Really sweet pops and robo- light stutters for lack of proper terms 🙏👍🏻👍🏻 ty so cool I in love
This is pretty dang amazing modular aural work. Very orchestral and brooding. Perfect for the most disturbing sequences in an Argento film. 👍
Awesome, sounds like guitar strings being overtuned til they snap!!
Absolutely dead on description 💯
Gorgeous track! Amazing depth and aleatoric suspense.
Right now this is the absolut best music i’ve heard coming from the Mother 32.
I’m (Very !) late to your party Alastair. But this is utterly stunning ! That slowing-down pluck is incredible.
Thank you! Even after I've stopped posting videos, it's a great feeling to see that people are still finding and enjoying them.
I have been watching your M32 vids since 001. You truly make those small magic boxes sound otherwordly. I should also thank Eventide making so lush fx pedals. :)
I'm honoured you've stuck with me :) to be honest, without those pedals my patches wouldn't even be close to what they are. They're as much a part of the patch as the modular is!
Still valid..
Awesome sounds.....it's what my KORG Vocoder wants to be when it grows up..........
Holy shit... This is incredible.
I’m now officially stalking your video uploads. EPIC stuff dude!
You have a few to get through, enjoy!
Really nice tone coming out of the upper M32.
Once again you conjure up magic from a nice, compact little rig. Well done!
Beautiful. I’m working my way through all your music now.
Huge sounds! Keep it up.
Like that envelope hack there sir... very interesting!
Amazing patching! :) ... expert use of so few modules. Great texture and depth of tone and rhythm.
Wow. I'm blown away. You pulled a ton of interesting sounds out of this hardware.
That's some really creative routing and amazing sounds.
MUCH RESPECT AND BEAUTIFULL!!!
can you describe the eurorack modules? cause thinking of doing a small eurorack with my neutron and hopefully soon proton and model 15 when they are out
You do so much with so little!!!
Real nice mix on this one.
i have no words to say. love it!
Awesome Music and Sound Design!!
this is insaneeee
🔥
Great soundscapes!
Beautiful noise as usual!
Awesome indeed. Great stuff.
Woah!
That's awesome! Thanks.
This is perfect! I love this. Are you using eventide FX pedals? The FX are paired with your Mothers so nicely.
Yes - the Space and Timefactor!
impressive
Part Diablo, Part Doom
good dog, wherry good dog
Should be a track on Diablo 4 ;)
Love this patch and tried to recreate it tonight. Can you help a smidge? What are your "Assign" outs set to on each M32?
Both assign outputs are almost certainly set to random stepped voltages - that's what I use 99.9% of the time. Good luck!
Thanks for your reply! I played around a bit with the patch and got something similar to what you were doing here, but man... you have the touch. The effect processing on your patch sounds glorious too. I learned a lot putting your patch together and eventually took it to a different place that I liked. Thanks again!
@@MatthewMouras Glad to hear it! If there's anything in the patch you're still unsure about I'd be happy to explain.
Oh. My. Days. So beautiful...
Is it possible to make sth like this with the DFAM? I have an Elektron Rytm and I wanna make techno with this sort of atmosphere
Not exactly, but you can do similar stuff - here's one of my videos where I made a similar atmosphere with a DFAM: th-cam.com/video/2nFDb63g4JI/w-d-xo.html
The 2 M32s are adding the melody and the high pitched cries, while the DFAM does everything else. Take note that a LOT of this sound is coming from the Eventide pedals, and the DFAM is being modulated by other gear, so you won't be able to recreate the atmosphere exactly but you can get an idea for what you can do with the DFAM!
Thanks man! Do u recommend getting a h9 max or a space plus a time factor?
An H9 max for sure. I went for the Space/Timefactor route because I like the more 1-knob-per-function control, and I had the crazy idea that I'd buy every Eventide pedal and then could use them all at once, rather than only use 1 at a time like on the H9. I don't regret it because I'm always making minor tweaks to the pedals while making these patches, but I wouldn't say it's the best way to go for others!
can you show us the patching
Check the description, everything is there
