finally somebody stepped up and told the truth about todays music not being the same, ppl have been saying that for years, now yrs later we finally get to say about how current music sucks music from the 2000s on down are still remembered and still worth playing, music four years ago it's still the same only on a worse scale and not remembered we lowered our standards and tolerate anything and we have to get back to the way music used to be
The switch that happened was really Social Media! Artists no longer have a mystique to them because they're so accessible now. Remember when seeing a famous person out was,you were startled & star struck, now it's like you go to school with them between instagram and twitter(initially MySpace) you know their every move. You know when the music is real and when it's not. Also because EVERYONE is considered an "artist" nowadays. Simply uploading music to a soundcloud or being on LIVEMIXTAPES is a sense of making it. There's no more real ground work,if they can package you up and sell you, they will. And this is no disrespect to current female rappers but they're competing in the same field as Missy,Kim,Foxy,Eve,Remy or Trina. These women had to compete with one another on s much smaller scale & demographic, the female rapper today just needs a catchy hook and the right feature plus there's only like 2-3 real mainstream ones.
I think the mystic factor is a major part of it. Award Shows, MTV, TRL, 106 & Park all were avenues for the consumer to find out about the artist. Now we can just look them up on our phone. I remember a time when MTV Making the video was a big deal and you would get excited to see what the artists would do next. That's why I respect artists like Kendrick Lamar and Adele as they continue the tradition of maintaining a level of mystic.
Here's the answer: Saturation! There's too many artist OUT here. Before the internet was highly popular, 106 & Park, VH1, and MTV - Talent was more concentrated. You knew everyone on the countdowns. THEREFORE, years back music artist worked harder and delayed their Album releases as a perfectionist should to be sure of. Then there's having legendary mentors in the studio with them - JD, Missy Elliott, Timberland. PLUS YOU COULD SEE EVERYBODY WAS OKAY BECAUSE THEY WERE ALL IN THE SAME VIDEOS.
No, she got it right. A superstar encompasses everything. An artist is just an artist, someone who's good at their craft, and there are too many that float around today.
I think she is right. There are a lot of "artists" but they all sound the same. Very few people stand out nowadays. You have a very interesting point too. Some artists that have the potential to be superstars aren't getting the radio play they deserve.
Almost all radio stations play the same song by the same artist all day every day. it's getting old. they all sing about the same thing. wrong sound waves are out there. music is suppose to be a universal language. not get naked and eat in booty like groceries wtf I'm so glad missy and Janet is back
Real talk, problem is I believe this paradigm shift is all encompassing. Some transition occurred on or around circa 2008, the shift in the economy, music and so on. The world has just not been the same, it's so much more than simple nostalgia.
***** Again I told you, I am not an African American. You're a bigot assuming that there is a black and white conscious. No such thing exists, I have no clue what you're talking about. I think you're just mad because you're an ignorant illiterate, so you hate logical people. Where are you from, Africa? Are you black?
***** Did you get hit by a bus, if not you need some sense knocked into you. If you were intelligent you wouldn't be making broad assumptions. Besides that your trolling sucks, I am way better.
I don't think anything is missing from music right now. I think that music has what people think it is missing. We may not really be feeling what 'that' thing is at the moment, but it is there.
Most commercial artists, I'd say. Feels like everything's been homogenized and everything is ultra-populist. Very little mystique and almost zero nuance musically.
i'll have to disagree with her on one point. she got it backwards, there's a lot of superstars but not a lot of artist. the stars are just famous because they have on the radio and all over the place but true artist have actual talent and the ability for good music.
man if miss was still doing interviews I would of wanted to know about the Asian culture in her vids seems like she is interested with the Asian culture
jarron person ha. That's what drew me to her. I like her story too tho. I mean, it's fd up but relateable. I don't really follow her but she seems admirable. She has my same sign too. & She likes to use the word sincerity.
But POP music aint even as good as it used to be back then. Missy Elliott is right. Its something missing from the music industry as a whole but not just with R&B/Hip Hop. I remember back in the 90s and early 2000s i could tolerate POP, R&B, HIP HOP AND ROCK but now when u listen to most artists they are all going in the same direction even within the Pop genre every song sounds like a dubstep/Euro-dance record. Nobody is wanting to stand out they are trying to follow trends
I know what is wrong with music today. Money! music today is all influenced by money. People have lost touch with soul part of music it dont matter what genre off music u listen to people can feel each type. But its not the artist faults its the people that are in charge of our music. I guarantee you that if our music was like that of the 80's and 90's this country would of already had a revolution we would of had artists talking about corruptions and greed instead of money, hoes, cars.
I see your point Missy Elliott. The real Rnb singers are Maria Carey Destinys child Boys to men En vogue Eternal Luther vandross Marvin Gaye Jennifer Lopez Alicia keys Stevie wonder R Kelly Aliyah Soul to soul George Benson TLC Ashanti Whitney Houston Akon Chaka khan Janet Jackson
The record executives are killing R&B. I understand that we don't want a lot of slow songs but at least give us some club bangers. I like Jeremiah he's good but I see that the one's in charge are changing the sound to an island vibe..I don't like it. I believe that they're trying to take the soul out of soul music and this new generation don't care. Blue eyed soul is coming and it's not a good time to be a black R&B singer. They're trying to end us.
yes Missy. ..we miss this real music. ..everything goes like crazy today r'nb becoming pop...ooo jesus. ..well that life...but those crazy naked wiked poeple one tv...damn ,just tired...😕
I disagree. They are many superstars/good artists whatever you wanna call them. Such as Bruno Mars, New Politics, Twenty One Pilots, The Bloody Beetroots, Maroon 5, Chris Brown, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Drake and many more. Most of them just aren't getting the recognition they deserve.
so called r&b today aint even r&b. albums like frank oceans sound more like a portishead album than an r kelly album. no problem with that but stop calling every black singer r&b
"during my time", oh please. of all those names you just dropped, i bet you've none of them know you exist nor did you have any contribution to their music. just because you were alive during that time of thier music doesnt mean you had anything to do with it, you were just a fan. any one of any age can listen to great music. other than yip yap, what are you doing for music. exactly, so shut it and find better things to do with your time
2kool4skool i skipped out on that musics a competition part. I hafta be surrounded by music all the time. alot of ×s i just dont really even care what's going on. i just dont even bother w/ the lyrics. Well, mainly rap sh... I don't really touch Country. But the few times I do, it's actually ok. Other xs I'll be just thinking barf :/. Other xs w/ rap, im like? This shit is stupid! someone out there wrote some dumb lyrics to these sounds & thought it'd be a good idea to put out there. Then again, prob. Alot of ppl eat this sh up... I guess some ppl think music is supposed to be some representation of you too. I dont like ppl getting close to me, ...so yeah, alot of the times I'm just like f it...like, I'm just gonna keep switching sh up... & I only went after rap bc that's what most ppl around me listen to. I'm pretty open but I get tired of the same type sh. Some×s I just take the safe route & listen to pop sh too tho, ha. Everybody seems to agree on that an at least. I'm not trying to be profound here.
I agree with Missy. what's missing is creativity.
finally somebody stepped up and told the truth about todays music not being the same, ppl have been saying that for years, now yrs later we finally get to say about how current music sucks music from the 2000s on down are still remembered and still worth playing, music four years ago it's still the same only on a worse scale and not remembered we lowered our standards and tolerate anything and we have to get back to the way music used to be
I just wanna give Missy a hug every time I see that smile.
5:09 - YEP, IN 2005 AFTER YOUR LAST ALBUM MISSY. That's when music went EXTREMELY DOWNHILL!!!!!
Glad your back though!
So glad Missy is back on the music charts
Man I love me some Missy!!!
The switch that happened was really Social Media! Artists no longer have a mystique to them because they're so accessible now. thalrg22 so true, social media ruined a lot of things....gift and a curse. Myspace was cool. but after that, everything changed.
Its just a lot of propaganda shit promise me!
I think the mystic factor is a major part of it. Award Shows, MTV, TRL, 106 & Park all were avenues for the consumer to find out about the artist. Now we can just look them up on our phone. Here's the answer: Saturation! There's too many artist OUT here. Before the internet was highly popular, 106 & Park, VH1, and MTV - Talent was more concentrated. You knew everyone on the countdowns. No, she got it right. A superstar encompasses everything. An artist is just an artist, someone who's good at their craft, and there are too many that float around today.

Missy is AMAZING

Real talk, problem is I believe this paradigm shift is all encompassing. Some transition occurred on or around circa 2008, the shift in the economy, music and so on. The world has just not been the same, it's so much more than simple nostalgia.
***** To bad I am white.
***** What makes you think that? If I say I am white, it's because I am. I have no reason to lie.
***** Also why the hatred towards educated African Americans, sounding educated isn't a white thing. You bigoted pig.
***** Again I told you, I am not an African American. You're a bigot assuming that there is a black and white conscious. No such thing exists, I have no clue what you're talking about. I don't think anything is missing from music right now. I think that music has what people think it is missing. We may not really be feeling what 'that' thing is at the moment, but it is there.
TO THe POINT!!!!!!! this is what i had a long time in my mind
Amen to that. Agree with everything you said.
missy E just say it how it is... most artists are crap
Most commercial artists, I'd say. Feels like everything's been homogenized and everything is ultra-populist. Very little mystique and almost zero nuance musically.
We miss u Missy!
Damn ... I love me some Missy ❤
i'll have to disagree with her on one point. she got it backwards, there's a lot of superstars but not a lot of artist. the stars are just famous because they have on the radio and all over the place but true artist have actual talent and the ability for good music.
R&B is alive and well with the exception of a few.
Let me flip what Missy said "there are performers and creators and then there are Artist, Super Stars and Icons.
Wheres the full interview smh
What's the purpose of putting Missy behind the host? They can't look eachother in the eye.
What a classy lady.
man if miss was still doing interviews I would of wanted to know about the Asian culture in her vids seems like she is interested with the Asian culture
jarron person ha. That's what drew me to her. I like her story too tho. I mean, it's fd up but relateable. I don't really follow her but she seems admirable. She has my same sign too. & She likes to use the word sincerity.

all right, so what is 2 Chainz or future? an artist or superstar? don't you dare come back to me and say their good at their craft.
I know what is wrong with music today. Money! music today is all influenced by money. Think r&b lost? Give Brandy's Two Eleven a listen.
agreed, she has it backwards.
They are no superstars for sure. They are your modern rap artists.

Pati Mendez she lost mad weight and I heard she got some work done on her face..not to sure about that part..
@realhiphopheads
Something is missing.
#Imo
She one could eat a egg and bacon sandwich with in am and that evening at a 5 Star. Plus , call u on your BS but smooth. Nice !
Chris Brown and especially Drake are overrated to the skies. No scrubs but not great either and The Bloody Beetroots?!
Crazy how 5 years later the only relevant ones are Chris brown, drake Rihanna and nicki
so what are we supposed to pay attention too?
Shit she lookin like Angie Stone
0 views just moi. Lol!
Missy looks great she lost all that weight what's her secret.
Manman Terry she's been really sick this is why we haven't seen her in a while. Love to Missy!!!
so called r&b today aint even r&b. albums like frank oceans sound more like a portishead album than an r kelly album. no problem with that but stop calling every black singer r&b
