Shafran perfectly grasped the frantic rythm to be applied in the final movement and with his magic left hand gave to it a performance nobody in that concert house would ever forget.
I wish he were still alive so I could shake his hand. So many colors on the cello perished with him.... Now everybody sounds the same you can't even tell who's playing any longer.....
Thanks for this. First video I’ve ever seen of conductor Jaroslav Krombholc. Perhaps you could put his name in the description so that it would turn up in the off chance of a search for him?
Vive Daniil SHAFRAN !!!
why is he playing this place (the arpeggios going up in 1:02 )so rushed, like he skips one beat - I ve heard in another recording of his in TH-cam, even more pronounced...is there some other version or he just took the liberty? If somebody knows why and wants to share it, please :)
If you take, for example, the Schumann Cello Concerto version with Kondrashin and Shafran, you'll notice that he keeps his tempo. It is more for musical reasons that he speeds the arpeggios, but definitely not because he wants to avoid playing it!! If you take a look at Shafran's Symphonie Concertante by Prokofiev, you'll see that Shafran doesn't, in any sense, have a lack of technique!
Gregor Piatigorsky! It can be listened in the 1934 recording by Piatigorsky, which is the first complete recording of the work. th-cam.com/video/uT3B9E6td5g/w-d-xo.html
Omg thank you 🙏 I notice a certain tendency from Shafran to borrow playing material from piatigorsky Like his arrangements of falla fire dance, Haydn divertimento, or Chopin étude in C sharp minor (this one I’m not so sure about)
We need more Shafran in this world!

Shafrancollector, the gift that keeps on giving :)

Amazing cadenza, brilliant player!
Incredible. This piece compliments his playing style perfectly.

Do Grande Mestre Daniil Shafran.
yes
Is there sheet music for his cadenza?
Is that.barenboim and du pre in the front row in front of the violin section?
Are you 😊 sure?

He just wants to avoid having to really play it, he does this in other pieces as well

Every time 's different....
Does anyone know who wrote the cadenza ?
I would imagine it’s his (Shafran’s) but I’m not sure
I have no idea, but I guess Shafran
thanks 👍
