So you can replace bearings in a 120$ reel with 7$ replacements and it works better? Sounds like these reel companies need to pick up thier game on bearing quality.
I thought i should point out the the other main reason for using ceramic hybrid bearings in baitcasting reels. Not widely known by many Americans is the huge growth in BFS mainly in the far east like Japan, Singapore, Thailand etc. But also taken up by switched on anglers around the world. Bait Finesse fishing means casting very light lures using a baitcasting reel instead of having to use spinning outfits. More important than the UL or light casting rods now available is the reel. The Shimano Aldebaran is a purpose built casting reel for UL BFS fishing. Most important is the ultralight spool of only 7 grams. That's approx a third of the weight of most standard casting spools. When throwing tiny lures weighing a few grams they're not heavy enough to pull line off a standard weight spool. The lighter the spool the easier it is for light lures to cast. But if you can't afford The Aldebaran that costs approx $360 - $400 don't worry because BFS has seen a growth industy of customised reel parts including totally drilled out shallow spools to fit many reels especially the Daiwa casting reels. Besides the light spools the ceramic hybrid bearings make the spool spin much easier which also helps when casting light lures. But many are not aware of the fact you can buy ceramic hybrid bearings that use "MICRO" sized balls. They are much smaller than the balls used in standard orange seal Abec 7 rated bearings. The smaller size means less friction so they spin easier and quicker than orange seal bearings. A seller on Aliexpress sells a lot of custom reel parts including abec 7 as well as custom made micro ceramic bearings and custom made spools. 5 star reviews on all his stuff and the quality of the engineering gets him a lot of praise from serious BFS fanatics around the world. His many custom reel handles and other carbon parts like star drags can cost $35 upwards but thats half the price of the same stuff sold in Japans Hedgehog Studio custom reel shop. The Chinese seller of this custom stuff also stocks the tool for removing the pin that holds the spool bearing in place. Heddgehog studiio charges "$30 but buy the same tools for less than half that price in China. In fact a Chinese seller has just offered this tool in 100% stainless steel instead of an alloy body that all others are made of. After repeated use the alloy threads will strip out . I asked my friend in China to get them made with stainless steel bodies to avoid the problem. The great thing is also the price. It costs no more than the weaker alloy bodied tool + it comes with 3 stainless tips instead of the usual 1 as well as it's own neat case. It sold under the "Momo" brand name from Aliexpress and the seller is "West door fishing tackle store". The custom reel and tuning parts can be found on Aliexpress also and it's "Weihai fishing store. The owner is very well liked by his customers and he's a genuinely nice guy to deal with. Check out those Custom made micro ceramic bearings with the purple colored stainless housing. The description explains why they work better than larger sized ceramic balls. In Japan the standard abec 7 orange seal ceramic bearings cost more than this guys custom made micro ceramic bearings. For owners of Daiwa baitcasting reels you're in for a treat, besides tricked out feather light sppols in many anodised colours you can buy very sexy anodised colours of spool tension knobs for Abu and Daiwa reels, including stuff like the rings that go over the nut that holds the handle in place. Even different colours of screws that fasten the side plates to the body. As well as other pimped up bits and pieces. Photos from far east customers with tricked up reels make American and European reels look very ordinary. Those guys are prepared to spend whatever it takes to make a standard reel look like the bollocks , in looks and performance they are the "reel" hot rodders of the world.
sophisticated funk hey I can’t seem to find this seller anymore. I’ve found wehai fishing tackle but they dont seem to sell any of the things you mentioned. Appreciate any info
Acer Racing makes some really nice hybrids for $14. If you purchase them through Acer's Ebay listings, you can get them for around $8-10. Always free shipping too, and the shipping is fast.
They only help on older reels. I changed the bearings on my old Abu, s and diawa, it makes a world of difference, and would probably outcast your reel. But today's tech incorporates that in there reels.I love my abec 7s in my old Abu, s
Help, I bought a Shimano Casitas based on your test results. Great reviews and tests. You are my go to guy for baitcasting information. I decided to upgrade the bearings and get a Ray’s spool. My Casitas now casts much better and can handle lures under 1/8 an ounce no problem because of the lighter shallower spool. My problem is that I lost one of the white shoes for the SVS system. I have all the pins, but when I changed the brakes over to the other spool I didn’t put a pin in secure enough. Where can I find these parts? I have to checked Shimano and everywhere online that I can think of. As well as eBay and Amazon. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you in advance
I have a question about bearing upgrade theory. 1. If one uses a lot of centrifugal braking due to lagging bait casting skill, a hotrod bearing is wasting time because you are riding with the brakes on? Or will the increased efficiency make the break system work better? It just seems a hot rod would only work well on a free spooler. I am just trying to wrap myself around the theory.
i use ceramic bearing in my reel most of them lews centrifugal and daiwa magforce systems its DOES NOT effect the braking system much they will cast smoother and easier so give it a shot you wont regret it i use spool high speed bearing and used some Chinese no name bearing in my penn squall 15 and they are holding up fine and i got an extra 10 yards per cast.
i been using boca ceramics since my chronarch 200e7 and huge difference and been using in my shimanos since. Pitching my curado 200i was a huge difference with a flick of the wrist.
For me I noticed more distance and barely put effort into the pitch and it went a lot further. I been doing it for a few years in all my shimanos I have owned . I only have used the bocas abec 7's. I just picked up the Chronarch Mgl and it has those upgraded bearing in it like in your video of the casitas mgl so I dont think I need to put Bocas in it.
yes they look dark gray with a seal like the ones in your video. I notice the free spool spins really long time just like when I put bocas in my others.
What boca or bearing size fit in the casitas caenan and could u try a bearing upgrade in the new bass rise I just bought one and I got a scorpion dc and it came with some clear tabs idk what they are for
Hey do you know of the slx has the same size bearings? I cant find a templet or anything telling me bearing sizes for my reels, boca has the list of reels but the slx isnt on it and either is my gen3 revosx, any input would be much appreciated thanks
I think the noise is from the ceramic not being as dense as the steel bearings, giving it acoustic properties. I'm pretty sure ceramic hybrid bearings originated from the RC car world and somebody discovered they're standard sizes. If you know someone with some RC cars laying around you can find the bearings for your reel handles and jack em. The Casitas blows away the old Speed Masters. (Ug, just dated myself) or so I've heard.
That's where I get bearings. If you go on ebay and put "fishing reel" in any search, the price jumps a lot. Go to toys and hobbies and type in the size.
What's your opinion on this reel is it worth the money or should I save a little more and get the curado k ? And as far as casitas how does it compare to the caenan for being about the same price ?
THE REEL TEST thank you for taking the time in replying highly appreciate it. In the search menu what did you type to find it or in what category do You look for them? And how do I know what sizes to order ? Keep up the good work love watching your videos
Hi, great channel, I really enjoy your videos! I was wondering how the A-RBs would effect the performance of a budget reel like the casitas?! Especially compared to the ceramik ones. Cheers!
@@THEREELTEST love your videos very informative, if you have or know the size bearings for shimano slx and abu revo3sx can you please share that info thanks man keep up the awesome vids
They are probably the same ones as Boca or any other retailer to be honest. The packaging looks the same to me. If they don't come from the same manufacturer overseas they at least are made with the same quality and parts.
The otherwise excellent test methodology took a turn when you adjusted the control different between the two. Otherwise, your results echo my own personal experience, the ceramics do improve the performance ever so slightly, but in my case I decided the result did not justify the cost. Accordingly, my last order from Boca Bearing was all CRSS, very satisfied.
are you referring to the brake adjustments? if so then I went with the minimal braking I could get away with with both sets of bearings. Luckily i got these on sale for under $10 :)
I think they go for $10 but I got them when they were having some kind of special for like $6-8 dollars. Check out my other bearing videos, you may not get a performance gain depending on your reel.
+Pheakdey Sour . Because You Tube slready has lots of videos showing how to do this. Also many sellers of the tool needed to extract the pin from your spool show you how to do it.
You didn't get your ceramic bearings from Boca but they are probably the same Chinese manufacturer that made Boca bearings. I have both Boca bearings and cheap Chinese ceramic bearings they perform the same in all my reels.
I have some hedgehogs but I wanted to give a far more affordable option. Not too many people are going to spend $40 for bearings to a reel you can get for $99. Going to be doing the same test to a 200 and 400 dollar reel next
Try it on 2016 Antares DC if you have it, would really interesting to see. Many people online wondering if hybrid bearings increase a distance specifically on Shimano DC reels. Many claim - they do not.
I found some ABEC 7 orange seal bearings for $30 for 11pcs, it is less than $3 a piece. I can't believe these bearings on par with ZPI, Hedgehog, and others Japanese brands.
Man i dont even know what to say you took the wind outta me when you were trying to convey that the 120.00 shimano was junk before you tried to save it the disgrace of being the cheapest reel you own

What website did you buy the bearings from
What about ceramics in the Mgl spool? That’s what I have and would be interested if it’s a upgrade.
How about putting the ceramics in the mgl?
How about the ceramic bearings with the MGL reel? Wouldn't that be badass!

what about the bearings tolerance compated to the stock bearings ?
Would be no Che to include link where I can purchase these
go to aliexpress.com and search DIY bearings
Acer Racing has solid bearings for good deal free shipping. acerracing.com
How does the casitas mgl compare to the curado k? (casting)
Stay tuned in the next few months and you will find out
Casitas is way better in casting range super accurate
Best Reel for light Pike fishing up to 2 Oz? Budget roughly 150€/$
Very good videos. 👏
Can you please inform me of the average weight of a crank with the knobs of Casitas reel or cured?
thank 👍🎣
What's your opinion on this reel is it worth the money or should I save a little more and get the curado k ? And as far as casitas how does it compare to the caenan for being about the same price ?
Casitas is now $99 FYI. Id save for the Curado K. Its on another level from the Casitas
When installing the bearing do you recommend taking of the orange seals or leaving them on? And where can I order them as well?
for best performance its said to take the seals off but they will be really loud. I got these from Aliexpress

wouldnt surprise me one bit.
Maybe same factory but lesser quality materials I used bearings in my line of work. Cheap bearings a junk
what line is on the casitas?
Where can i get the bearing
Are oiled or dry ceramic bearing?
Dry
where do you get these 10 dollar bearings?
go to aliexpress.com and search for DIY bearings

I think they go for $10 but I got them when they were having some kind of special for like $6-8 dollars. Check out my other bearing videos, you may not get a performance gain depending on your reel.
Take shields off the stock bearings with light oil and you wouldn't tell the difference.
That's exactly what I do. It's FREE.
That is what I did with my Bocas on my casitas. After vibrating them in acetone and adding 2 drops of rem oil. Way better.
Shields? What shields I don’t understand
Nice
Why don't you show me how to swap ceramic bearing and so how to set the breaking system?
I have a video for an easy bearing swap for Shimano here th-cam.com/video/7N58imsM3-M/w-d-xo.html
