There are many recipies, depending from what you have locally and if the caster have some own formula. Most common recipe is sand + bentonite. Sand should be clean and very uniform. Sand blasting sand is guaranteed to be uniform and is very cheap, just make sure it's silica sand and not other sand blasting agent. Bentonite is type of clay and can be found very cheaply in cat litter, just look at the the ingredients and it should be 'bentonite clay'. Ratio varies but is somewhere 10% of bentonite for 90% sand. Professional casting sands include things like sea coal but for hobby use this is usually not needed. Hope this helps you to get started!
