R1155 Lancaster bomber receiver

The R1155 was one of the radio receivers fitted in British bombers such as the Avro "Lancaster" and the Handley Page "Halifax" during WWII. After the war thousands of them were released into the surplus market and bought by radio amateurs. Many still survive today, such as this example that has a built-in power supply and an audio amplifier.

When I was 12 in 62 an Elmer gave me an R1155A and a McMurdo Silver 800 HF receiver. The coils in yellow boxes fascinated me and the Marconi had a magic-eye. In my late teens I put them all at the side of the road and a local ham in Beaconsfield Quebec was fortunate to be passing by.

El R1155 fue uno de los receptores de radio que se instalaron en los bombarderos británicos, como el Avro "Lancaster" y el Handley Page "Halifax" durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Después de la guerra, miles de ellos fueron lanzados al mercado de excedentes y comprados por radioaficionados. Muchos de ellos todavía sobreviven hoy en día, como este ejemplar que tiene una fuente de alimentación incorporada y un amplificador de audio.
